Hi! I have a money saving tip for u on buying milk! Go with the BIGGEST size milk and freeze half of it if u feel u can't drink it all before it goes bad! U can also freeze portions of it in ice cube trays, then pop out the cubes into a glass (or freeze portions in plastic bottles) and defrost each serving in fridge overnight before u go to sleep! Pro tip from a former Aldi stocker. Don't pull from the back thinking that is where the freshest product is. At Aldi, you are instructed to place the newer food in the front and push the older stock to the back and an employee goes through periodically throughout the week to collect the expired from the back of the shelf.
@LauraLegge4 ай бұрын
That’s wild to me! When I worked in food, all new stock had to go in the back so the older food would be purchased first and not wasted. Thank you for sharing!

Whaaat??? I work at Aldi too but in Germany where Aldi is from. We are suppose to put the new stuff in the back EVERY DAY. That sounds so crazy to me.. it's either Aldi USA that decided that or the specific store you worked at.. even tho I can't imagine Aldi as a company would say they don't care how Aldi USA handles their stores.. that's so not German

I also used to work at Aldi (Midwest); we were constantly rotating, putting older stuff near the front. Dates were checked frequently, and once a month we went through with a bingo dobber to further make sure we were rotating. The policy at your store sounds wild😂 Our district manager would have a heart attack😂

My Aldi never has food on the shelves long enough to need rotating. However, working with a large warehouse to send your stock can result in any store sometimes receiving outdated products.

For the egg bake, I use a silicone muffin tin. There is no need to cut them. Just pop them out, let them cool, then toss them in a freezer bag. The round shape also helps them heat more evenly in the microwave. Of course if your primary concern is budget, you can mix in any leftover veggies, chicken, or ham you may have on hand. You can even chop up leftover French fries and use them as well. Add some hot sauce and/or red pepper for more flavor.

As I watched this I realized we shop very similar, basically identical items to what I would choose except I prefer red pepper. So as an experiment I thought I would pull out my receipts and do a comparison to prices in Australia. So this is all in Australian dollars Eggs = 7.20, Cottage Cheese = 5.49, Milk (I wouldn't buy milk personally I had to look it up) 4.20, Greek Yoghurt = 3.59, Chickpeas in can = 1.00, Chickpea pasta = 3.50, 2 cans of black beans = 3.50, Taco seasoning packet (I also make my own) = 2.00, Spinach Wraps (so odd by I looked this one up and we had them on sale to they were 1.50 discount off) = 4.00, Spinach in a bag = 3.00, Cucumber = 2.00, 3 Bell Peppers (the green ones are the cheapest) 4.50, Bananas (you bought 2 pounds and that is approx 1kg) = 4.50, Tomatoes (ours are 4.90 per kg or approx 2.45 a pound) = 1.20, Tuna (I chose the cheapest on the look up as you did but I would normally not choose the cheapest myself) = 1.10, Cheddar 500grams = 4.60, Peas = 3.00 Making a grand total of $58.38 I just thought that might interest some people I found it interesting to do. There is NOTHING wrong with sugar. Sugar is the same as anything else…DON’T overeat it. Too much fat makes you fat, too much carbohydrates, which are essential to a healthy diet, makes you fat. Sugar substitutes are ok also…you can NEVER consume enough of it to experience the side effects as “they” want you to believe. If you believe “them” maybe your Dr. can prescribe Cheerios cereal for you heart problems. You want to eat some sugar…EAT IT! 😊

If you make a legume pasta mac & cheese and are going to finish it in the oven with a crunchy topping, it has to be undercooked (on stovetop) about 2-2.5 minutes. If it's not undercooked, by the time the sauce is added and it's baked, you end up with a fairly firm blob. Ask me how I know! 😂 We don't waste food do we ate some that night. I really do appreciate your video today. First time viewer here and just subscribed. I lean more ketogenic with my diet but I found a lot of your recipe ideas in this video to be very conducive to a ketogenic diet with a few tweaks for some of them. Thanks for the ideas! I do agree with another viewer’s comment that I recommend NOT using low fat options as long as they are natural fats (not hydrogenated or seed oils which are chemically processed for instance) since not only are fat free foods usually unnaturally processed (which can cause more histamine reactions) but also fats are an important part of the diet for allowing the transfer of certain fat soluble vitamins. Also fats are more satiating so usually calories do not increase all that much per serving as long as the higher fat serving is also lower in carbs. I do understand that you have health issues relating to high fat options, but this comment is more for people in general. Thank you again for the video and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that when you say you're trying to eat "low sugar" but you're buying all the low/no fat options for milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. that it kind of defeats the purpose because you're actually getting more sugar added into the recipes than if you just use the whole fat/regular versions of those products. Compare the labels and you will find that if, for example, a gallon of milk says "non fat" if you look at the nutrition label and compare it to whole milk, you'll see that it has more sugar in it than whole milk. Fat has been demonized in our diet culture and people think that eating animal fat is bad for you, but that's not necessarily true, in fact you're body needs fat in your diet. So don't be afraid of whole milk or full fat cottage cheese or yogurt. Fat makes food taste good, and when "Big Food" started making low/no fat versions of everything in their laboratories, their food scientists found that taking the fat out of the food makes it taste horrible! So they add in sugar to make it taste good again - and that's why people who eat diet foods often struggle with cravings, food addiction and weight gain despite eating these so-called healthy "diet foods." The more you can eat whole foods that are as close to the way nature made them, the better they'll taste and the better off you'll be.
@LauraLegge4 ай бұрын
@@arbabe3389 thank you for the recommendations! After several comments saying this - I compared all the low fat items I used to the regular fat versions (I haven’t checked the milk yet though!) and all of them had the exact same amount of sugar contents. So I think maybe it depends on the specific product and maybe the brand. For me personally, I’m unable to have a diet high in fat due to health issues and since I was getting lots of fat in certain ingredients, I had to balance it out with some lower fat ingredients so I wouldn’t feel sick. I’ve been reducing our meat intake over the last few years and it’s been amazing for us! We get lots of fat and protein from a variety of sources now ☺️ And I agree! Whole foods are preferred in this house but we still have our share of processed foods 😅 I believe almost everything is fine in moderation!
@LauraLegge4 ай бұрын
Ok, I just compared a few milks on Target’s website because ALDI doesn’t have the nutritional facts on their site for those and organic milk has the same amount of sugar for both whole and 2%. Regular milk has 1 more gram of sugar in the 2% vs whole and exactly the same amount of sugar for nonfat vs whole milk 😄 I’ll check the ALDI brands next time I go! It’s very interesting! They must have changed the way they do things with lower fat foods (at least for dairy)

Greatly enjoying your budget and gluten free recipes! Love the homemade wraps. I'm the exact opposite in digestion though. I experience heartburn and indigestion from carbs, and get hypoglycemia if I limit fat. I eat very few carbs daily and never any pasta or bread at all. I can only eat beans very seldom, vegetables and berries only seasonally from our garden, never any store bought fruit. I also can't eat nuts. I agree everyone is different in what they can consume, mostly but I do think most people don't eat enough protein, for some reason. I also learned in my search for help with digestive troubles that issues with the gall bladder is due to not enough fat in the diet. The body never has a complete emptying of the bile because not enough fat in diet so it builds up and causes gall bladder stones. Thanks for your hard work on the videos!
@LauraLegge4 ай бұрын
@@Campbellsangusranch oh wow! That’s very interesting! It’s fascinating how everyone requires such different nutrition. I agree with you! I find that if I listen to my body, I learn a ton about what I should be eating. High fat makes me very ill and my body craves complex carbs and leafy greens more than most other things. I also don’t crave meat and I usually have an aversion to it for some reason (I do like cheeseburgers most the time though 😅) I used to not do well with beans but eating them more often has helped me digest them, which is so interesting! I have no idea why that is!
