Im 58 yo male Native American, Navajo. Diagnosed with hypothyroid after Graves disease, diabetic, low testosterone, high estrogen, kidney, and liver issues. I have been to about 20 doctors since 2000. All of them stick to the American pyramid diet and tell me to accept being fat with low thyroid. Detrimental for this body. I gained 100 pounds in 24 years. I finally took my life and health into my own hands. Low to zero carb, moderate fat, and protein. Calorie defict. Intermittent fasting 20/4. And excercise. Lots of water and salt. Im down 3 pounds, AM fasting glucose under 95, and overall encouraged by the strict healthy choice. Positive thinking. I told myself I could not, for many years. I wish I knew these things decades ago. Now, April 2024, quit all my meds except for thyroid replacement, that unfortunately is forever....

Pushing breakfast back an hour or two was the key for me. I never could last till lunchtime so now I have two meals a day - brunch and supper (10-11am and 6-7pm). Finally, found a method that works for me. I make sure I have enough fat and protein at each meal with veggies. I'll have the fat based smoothie option only if I'm out and about or too busy as I always have frozen berries, unsweetened nut butter and vanilla protein powder around (I also add 1 tbs soaked chia seeds and add that to the mix with extra water/ice cubes and 1 tbs cacao or carob powder). In summer, I'll add a zucchini to thicken the mixture and have a smoothie bowl instead! Not sure of the carbs in this but as a T2 diabetic, I haven't seen my blood sugars spike at all.

If any of you are skeptical about Kait’s information, I am living proof that what she is saying is helpful! Last year at this time, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and it made perfect sense. I kept gaining weight, was feeling horrible and tired all the time, and my periods were SUPER irregular. Once I started watching these videos and eating waaaay more protein, my periods started to become more regular! I actually FELT better and more full throughout the day, and it felt better to make these food choices. I still have a ways to go on my weight-loss journey and of course finding better ways to manage stress with lifestyle changes helped, but Kait, I really want to thank you for this lifesaving information ❤

I now eat Greek yogurt, blueberries, a scoop of flaxseed meal and a scoop of peanut butter (only peanuts and sea salt) for breakfast. I try to eat scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and a strip of bacon 2x per week, but my yogurt breakfast is so much easier.

Thank you for that information!

Fat doesn’t have any effect on the protein turning into glucose. The body will turn protein into glucose via gluconeogenesis if the body has no other source of glucose available. It is purely demand driven. As long as you have fat stores, your body will use that first.

The first thing I have each morning is water with a little lemon while I do resistance training. I wait until 9am to have my coffee. Then around 10 I go for a 30 min walk which involves 100 stairs, come home, and make my first meal of a 2-egg omelet, with mushrooms, cheese, zucchini, 10%fat plain yogurt, some homemade salsa and take my B12 and D3. I may have a boiled egg and a cup of tea in the afternoon, but usually, just have a protein and veggies dinner by 5pm. Water is throughout the day and I stop eating after 5. I am insulin resistant, and started this program a couple of weeks ago. I feel great, and am sleeping better, have no cravings and have more energy. I can't go super low carb as I get shaky so I stick to the rainbow of colours of mostly veggies. I will be retesting my blood sugar at the end of Feb to see what changes have occurred with it,.

This is very helpful information. I was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Before that, I was eating oatmeal with maple syrup or giant bowls of very sweet fruits. I was consuming at least 4 bananas a day, then having rice or pasta for dinner. I wondered why my weight loss was so slow. Especially because I always intermittent fasted. My doctor had a good talk with me about my eating and strongly urged that I significantly reduce the carbs. He told me to stop this since it will inevitably lead to diabetes. He also set me up with a nutritionist. Thanks to him and videos like this, I am confident that I will reverse my pre-diabetes.

@carokat1111
@carokat1111 Жыл бұрын
I am not the person you contacted, but I thought I’d answer. In my experience I lose weight better if I eat two to three meals a day. I think 20:4 daily is too harsh on the body. Best way to lose weight is to limit your carbs to 50gr per day and reduce even further. My best results were achieved on 30gr per day. This diet was given to me by a dietitian: breakfast 2 eggs with optional leafy greens; lunch 100gr raw protein, unlimited leafy greens and 100gr other vegetables luke broccoli and carrots; dinner the same as lunch. Avoid snacks but if needed, 30gr nuts, or 100gr natural yoghurt, or berries.

Hi all. I've been pre-diabetic for years. The one thing I didn't read in the comments that helps the most, that's exercise. It's imperative that we all move our body. Go for long walks. Stay indoors and dance 💃. 🕺 Exercise has saved me. My blood pressure is great, and my glucose stays in check. My first meal is at 1230 pm. I'm used to it now. Have a great day all.

Thanks for the great video, Kait! I skip breakfast every day. On days when I only eat one meal, that's usually around 4pm. On days when I eat two meals, the first is at around 1pm and the second is around 5pm. I can usually tell when I need two meals, because I get hungry around noon. If I don't get hungry, it's one meal. Eggs are always a part of every meal that I eat. I love them and they seem to do me good. Bacon is another staple. Occasionally, I throw in some nuts or avocados. On the days with only one meal, it's usually steak and eggs. I always enjoy your videos because I learn something every time. It may not be useful at the moment, but knowledge is a great thing to store, unlike fat! You never know when that information will come in handy. It's nice to see the big picture also. Keep up the good work! And thanks again!

U spoke about 🥑 in ur smoothie... In my country of the Philippines, Avocado smoothies or shakes is a common thing (consumed sweet). Since technically 🥑 is considered a fruit since it grows on hard trunk trees & not a vine or soft trunk plants, we treat is as such. Try it out! It really is very good as a smoothie or a shake! They even sell 🥑 ice cream in our country & it's a normal thing...

Since finding out I has a insulin problem last December; for breakfast I have cut out all fruit juices (OJ) and cereal and oat meal. I still eat bread but its the thin smaller Dave's Killer wheat Bread (looking for high fiber) and have that or 1 tortilla with eggs and bacon pretty much everyday. A quick breakfast would be that wheat toast with almond butter and bacon. It's really tasty. All washed down with a full glass of water. Have had great results this year. So I have one toast unless I’m very hungry maybe 2. You can also make French bread and I use Monkfruit Sweetener Lankanto maple syrup ( rare occasions). I’m so glad I found that bread.

I have skipped breakfast at times in the past and noticed small weight drops over time. I have gone strict KETO few months also in past and lost chunks of weight, but sticking to a ketogenic diet is difficult is one is used to a "normal" diet. Last few weeks I've been going back to skipping breakfast again, not eating after 9pm and also ensuring m my first meal, round lunch time, is carb restricted. I have dropped 1kg per week just from that. I also noticed I actually get less hungry now as the insuline is more managed.

I like oil. Plain coffee mixed with 1 teaspoon each of Olive oil & coconut oil in the morning. The taste is heavenly. The oil slows down the effect of caffeine, so I get a smooth 'high' from it. I have 2 to 3 such cups till afternoon. Sometimes after the 2nd coffee I eat roasted coffee beans. After eating the beans I dont feel like eating any food for hours. Oil + Coffee is a very underrated breakfast option IMO.

I like huevos racheros with black beans, bacon and avocado. Or just an avocado smashed on toast with a little salt and a couple of messy eggs. I also eat blueberries/mandarin oranges and whole milk yogurt with collagen supplement in my morning tea or golden milk. Steak, mushrooms, avocado, and tomato slices with a poached egg to drizzle yoke is good. small toasted french bread slices, with ham on top then sautéed spinach and a poached egg for yoke driizzle. so yummy.

nr 1 works perfectly, I can go without eating brekfest for many hours and I don't feel hungry just because I stick to a diet similar to Kato's. This energy effect works very well for many hours on fat metabolism. That's why it's enough for me to drink bitter coffee with a teaspoon of good coconut oil for breakfast. Nutrient intake takes place in a window of 5-6 hours with a variety of valuable nutrients from many good sources!, but without sugars and with a very limited supply of carbohydrates. So until then there is intermittent fasting and it works perfectly. Dinner must be nutritious and plentiful because it must be enough for me until the next dinner. In the meantime, I drink either good mineral water or green tea or raw cocoa. Hydration must be good in this form of diet. This style causes self-regulation of human metabolism. There are no high sugar options in the keto diet approach. A person can get rid of prediabetes and even diabetes. The whole secret of health lies in what we eat during these 5-6 hours and how often I physically move.

Bone broth with gelatin powder and an avocado. After my morning workout, I have a smoothie that has a small amount of higher glycemic carbs as I understand that an insulin spike post workout is beneficial for protein synthesis for muscle building. I go back to low carb for the rest of the day. Any thoughts on that strategy?

I'm with you 100%. I don't eat breakfast. I have a cup of homemade cold brewed black coffee or my version of bulletproof coffee (black cold brewed coffee, 1 Tbsp MCT oil, 1 Tbsp organic unsweetened coconut milk). The hunger, if I have any, is gone in minutes, and I am full of energy, so I go right to things that I have to do. This all lasts about 3ish hours, so my first solid meal of the day is lunch. Btw, lunch can either be the bigger meal or smaller one of the day. I mix it up, depending on my mood, and what I have ready in the fridge (almost all my food is homemade.). I like to joke that since I'm half Spanish and half American, I may go Spanish (bigger meal) for lunch, or go American (smaller meal) for lunch. Take care.

My recipe for my husband who just had triple bypass surgery, and diagnosed with type 2 at the same time (7.2 at admission) is 2 cups almond milk, heated on stove, add 2 tbsp chia seeds, 3 -4 tbsp hemp hearts, 2 tbsp flax meal powder....simmer for about 8-10 minutes...it will thicken on standing, smells like oatmeal...I add some berries, nuts and seeds and sometimes a clementine...he loves it, and 4 weeks from surgery his fasting morning blood sugar is 5.3

Hi Kait, I am new to PCOS dieting and appreciate your videos! However, it is difficult at times to make a complete meal plan that accounts for different pieces of advice-- for example, I read that bacon was not recommended for women with PCOS as we want to avoid processed meats (sad for me, a lover of sliced turkey and bacon!) which are high in sodium, trans fat, and nitrates. I wondered if your recommendation for eggs and bacon means that in your experience, a bit of bacon in the morning is alright? Really any thoughts you have on this or on lunch meat (without white bread) will be very helpful, if you have the time! Thank you so much!

I have been doing Intermittent Fasting now for 5 consecutive months and I feel absolutely fantastic. More energy, better memory and clear thinking, sleep better and longer, more relaxed and an overall better Health. I am 5'5" and weigh 135 lbs. Electrolytes before a workout 👍 If you're going to buy a plant based protein I would save your money and just get your protein from food. You don't need to consume any amount straight after your workout. As long as you consume enough throughout the day timing doesn't matter 🤗

Great video!! I've learned over the last year, you can swap out a lot of things to create a lower-carb meal that is just as tasty as the original. It also helps to try things out of the "norm" and discover and explore new foods. The low carb hot chocolate is my newest favorite. Heavy whipping cream has been a lifesaver for me! The price is a bit high but I view it as a concentrate. Meaning in some recipes containing it, I will likely be adding water. Compare the carbs in heavy whipping cream or half n half to milk. Back to the hot chocolate..SUBS: milk for heavy whipping cream and some water or half n half; Whole Earth Sweetener Packets (3) for sugar. I also add a splash of Sugar-Free Torani Caramel Syrup (or vanilla extract) and just a few marshmallows (about 5). Salt is necessary to give that cocoa powder mmmm flavor. There are recipes all over KZbin for diy hot chocolate. The key to lower carbs is subbing out a few things and playing with the recipe until you get it how you want it. My basic recipe: Mix dry ingredients separately then add to liquid and stir really well. I do microwave mine for about 30-45 secs because I like it really hot. Microwaves vary so be careful. 1/4 cup HWC, 1/2 cup hot water, 3 packets of Whole Earth Sweetener (or your own zero carb sweetener), 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder, a couple shakes of salt, sugar-free syrup if I have it, a few marshmallows on top. This hot chocolate is delicious in my opinion and contains very few carbs. Maybe 5 carbs with marshmallows. Skip the marshmallows for barely any carbs at all. Some ready-made envelopes offer 34 carbs for one cup of hot chocolate. If you add milk to those envelopes to make it richer, you're adding even more carbs.
