Went for a 12 mile+ mountain bike ride on singletrack above 6000 feet today. Stopped and had 'brunch' in the sunshine while loafing in my hammock. No outdoor excursion, short or long is complete without a hammock to rest in. A hot meal when the temp is 40F or below is a welcome distraction. Sunshine felt good, no wind. Utah is unusually dry this year. Normally this area would be under at least 2 feet of snow. No need to waste a good opportunity! Looks like you and Jonah had a whale of a good time in BWCA. Gotta love the Silky saw, no matter which size/model you have. I'm really liking the Superior insulated hammock....thank you for your real, honest review, using it in real winter conditions. Looks like a real Peach! It's good to see a younger man interested in winter camping/winter outdoors. Some of us older fellers still have it in us to do the winter outdoors thing. Need to educate our younger comrades to the joys it brings. Thanks for sharing.

I speak for myself. This year has been challenging for most of us and sadly, devastating for others. During this chaos, some of us chose to stop viewing TV and turn to the internet to relax from the taxing wave of less than honest informational entertainment. Myself as an avid You-Tube viewer, have selected a few channels that peak my interests and provide me with a mental release that we all need in todays world. Kind of a therapeutic dumbing down. No Political opinions, no rants about the injustices of the world, no platforms on how one should feel about one thing or another and how wrong it is to think any other way. Being a long-winded advocate for brevity, the point I’m trying to make is just to say thank you. You and your channel content have provided an outlet of sanity in an otherwise crazy ass world. You have shared with us your interests and adventures. You invited us along, not as observes but as accomplices. You’ve taken us to places we might never have gotten to go. In doing so we got to see things and meet people via the channel. I believe every one is a book, one that’s worth the read. It has drama, laughter, and sorrow. When one shares their book of life it’s an awesome event to behold. Im grateful for the time shared. In closing, regardless of what kind of challenges and situations thrown at us this year December 25th is still Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and yours. May our future be brighter than years past. P.S. No I’m not running for any office.

@@shugemery totally. I’m a hunter, so I can occupy much of my early cold weather season (“EARLY”), but I’m doing RSBTR DIY gear. So it’s a learning curve. Froze my nuts off at 28 degrees. So I’m not even close. Soon tho. Soon!

something you might want to look into, they're kind of pricey, and they're designed for winter cycling, but you can leave on the cover that hides the cleat mounts. 45Nrth makes two models of winter boots. both models have aerogel in the soles, and both models include a removable liner. I've been using the more expensive Wulfgar model for two seasons (rated for -20°F). it was an older model that had traditional laces with a cord lock. the pair that I had are pretty beat up now because I used them daily, but they still function, and are still fully waterproof, although I had to replace the laces, and it's time to replace the liners. this past week I just bought the other model which is only rated down to 0°F. the newer models now feature a Boa lacing system which I can already tell will be much easier to use with gloves on. the liner feels much nicer compared to the felt Wool liners in the Wulfgar model... I'm not sure if the newer Wulfgar models feature the same sort of liner. when I purchased my Wulfgars, I had read a review that said to get a size larger than you needed so that you'd be able to put on thicker socks or nest a smaller liner inside the other liner and extend the temperature range. I didn't ever actually need that and I kind of wish I had gotten my normal size. because I had done that I ended up purchasing some "military" microfleece over-socks on Amazon. and one thing I noticed about using them is that the outside of the oversocks would be damp but my feet and socks would be dry

Will look into that. I would have just worn my mukluks but walking 5 to 6 miles a day in them with barely any snow...they just don't support. In deep snow and with snowshoes just fine.

Shug we was hot on your pulk tracks all day Saturday out there on the Angleworm. My girls are Xelias Aerial Arts students and were dying to run into you. They are also big fans of Jonah aka the Hebrew Hanger. Thank you for making our winter walking even more exciting.

Meg told me. We did not have pulks but someone did. Did you hike up the east side? We were up at Whiskey Jack lake Saturday.
@thomashauer66624 жыл бұрын
@@shugemery oh I feel bad for the folks pulling the pulks, the snow was melting pretty good by the end of the day. We went up the west side of Angleworm and just did an out and back, about 7 miles, not bad for a 12 & 10 year old!! I’ll be doing an overnight there later this winter. Do you prefer the Whiskey Jack campsite?
