"Nasubi says he'd signed no contract. But he didn't have anything better to do, so he sat down and wrote and soon was entering 200 to 300 contests a day. And while he waited for prizes to arrive, he had no food. Nasubi got frighteningly thin very quickly. You could see the sharp angles of his collarbones. Nasubi via Translator: Well, starvation is a good word for it. The staff got together and would give me basically a very simple little bread each day, so I had bread and water essentially for the first two weeks. But then as soon as the results started to come in, then that stopped and everything shifted over entirely to things that I could win through sweepstakes. Was there anything preventing you from backing out at that point? Like, was the door locked? Nasubi via Translator: No, there was no lock on the door. And producers later asked me, so why didn't you escape? And I was naked, so I would have had to go outside naked and seek help. But I don't think that that's what kept me in there. The only thing I really have to say is that I said I'd do it, and I do what I say. That was it? The only reason? I kept asking him, but wait, really, why? Nasubi via Translator: There's a phrase, ...., the Japanese spirit, which is just that you sort of stick through. You endure things. When you're given something, whether it's easier or whether it's hard, you just really do-- you're obliged to follow it through." Western people are so spoiled and dramatic lol
@JaykPuten
@JaykPuten Жыл бұрын
@@comedicsociopathy first, when you have to call people derogatory names like "dramatic and spoiled" means you find merit in what they're saying, else you'd just present the facts...(let's see how fast you edit the end of your comment) To the actual crux of the issue, at some point though, you kinda feel stuck when doing something, especially when you're depressed or start having mental issues.. Which is probably the point at which someone should have said "hey, maybe we should have him be psych evaluated" because there is a point where someone has either diminished capacity and couldn't sign a contract, and requires a guardian... So while they weren't holding him there according to your sources There is a point where mentally he needs to be checked to make sure he's still aware he can leave there... And it's long before you're at the point of "clothes don't feel good" Or maybe at the start, some people are so addicted to the idea of being famous they'll actively do something against their best interests, like with any addiction... So could he leave at any time? According to your source yes... Was he competent in understanding that? We don't know What might have started as "I can leave whenever I want" can quickly become "I can leave whenever I want?" To "I shouldn't leave" Western people aren't spoiled or dramatic, some just understand there is a mental and even genetic component that makes issues that can't be seen, be recognized as issues... You wouldn't put someone with a propensity to addiction in a casino, or an opioid addict in a warehouse of opiates and be surprised when they don't feel like leaving... Just like you shouldn't put someone truly willing to risk everything to the point of psychical and mental harm to be famous on TV and say"if you leave you're not on TV" The problem with your source, even if it's 100% translated from him is that it's after the fact, not *during* the situation... I mean the whole preamble before the introduction of the story is about people doing stupid things to become famous, some even being not alive from TikTok challenges... So pardon people for considering mental health as "dramatic and spoiled"

There have definitely been things said over the years about how the human trafficking and ritual killings were done for members of the Nigerian government and the rich of the country. However, that may just be a rumor like any other you hear about when something horrible is discovered in any other country- how those in charge knew all about it, let it go on, profited from it, etc. In Nigeria, belief in medicine men and juju to bring wealth or good fortune or to cure illness or drive away "demons" (which could be anything from severe depression or anxiety to an actual physical disorder like a tumor or something disrupting your digestive system or cancer making you sicker and sicker) is pretty popular. Some groups never see a regular doctor for anything medical, just their village priest or medicine man. And believe it or not, human body parts are still sought out ingredients for some of these things (I think moreso the "spells" or what they call them to bring money or prosperity or love or whatever than to cure medical ailments. I think most of those are taken care of mostly with herbs, roots, etc). This "death house" could have easily just been some group's warehouse for the body parts they sold. If you look at Nigerian news, even today you'll see stories of bodies being found beheaded and with parts missing- often things like the heart, tongue, reproductive parts, liver, kidneys, etc. Some have been found just dropped in the street right in the middle of town. Enough with many of the same parts missing that you know they're being harvested for sale (not transplant either- you can't just kidnap someone, hack out their liver and hold it until you sell to the highest bidder waiting for a new one. That has to be carried out extremely carefully and under strict conditions to work). I want to state that I do not believe that Nigeria as a whole is a place that believes in the power of juju or witches or anything of the sort. Many of the people are as civilized as anyone else- certain just as much as the people who live around me and many probable moreso. I live in Florida so take that just as you think I meant it. But there are some areas who still subscribe to older belief systems and while some hang on to older beliefs but have updated enough to stray away from the use of human body part to complete their rituals, others have not. And just as anything else, if there's a market for it, you're going to find someone willing to get it and sell it. Especially in a place where poverty is rampant. Several of those survivirs from that forest place said they were "arrested" even though they knew the people arresting them weren't actual police and the reasons given were bullshit- one said he was picked up for being a vendor where he wasn't supposed to and a woman said she was sitting outside her house and a car pulled up and they said they had a warrant for her from someplace else. A few other somewhat similar. But all knew they were being kidnapped, it just happened fast and they couldn't fight off a few adults. It really does sound more like a ring trafficking in human parts, not really some government conspiracy to kidnap people to sacrifice so they could live forever or whatever.

Wow, I knew that game shows in Japan are really weird, but this takes the cake in a VERY big way. The amount of money made off of Nasubi was crazy and I wonder if he got even a dime of it. The brokenness shown in his expression at the end is just heartbreaking. I know that most people are sensitive to this kind of brokenness shown in others, but I'm 55 years old and as I have grown older I have become more and more sensitive to such expression. I literally began to tear up as he was humiliated on stage in front of that entire audience and every person in the TV audience. This is beyond awful. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that someone at that TV network thought this entire thing up and totally approved funding for the show. It's just sickening. They absolutely didn't see Nasubi as a person but as an object to make money from. They're fortunate that he didn't die during the more than two weeks that he didn't eat anything at all. I can't imagine what level of damage that did to him. I sincerely hope and pray that you are out there somewhere doing well, Nasubi. You deserve so much more than what these people did to you.

As rightfully harsh as you were about the producers of that so-called game show, we can't ignore the fact that SEVENTEEN MILLION watched this. @@jessbellis9510 absolutely not. You can't scorn torturing a person for profit while excusing torturing someone for one's own entertainment. These people watched him eat dog food and uncooked rice and clapped for more. They watched him get tricked twice into thinking he was finally free and then laughed in his face at what a funny joke it all was as he noticeably lost weight and his personality changed. His suffering was the whole point, and it's sadistic and cruel. The producers were sick, and the audience that lapped it up for their viewing pleasure were sick. On Nasubi and whether or not the food being brought to the house was faked/staged or a genuine accident, and other speculation on how much was staged: it's hard to say how much was. Claims could have been exaggerated for views, some things may have been accidentally or intentionally misreported or misrepresented to the audience, or even lost in translation with the whole incident, so there's still room to speculate. However, What is truly disturbing is watching him literally waste away and become extremely thin, bony and eventually beginning to look emaciated during the periods that there was no food and for weeks. This was clearly not cgi, long before deepfakes or video editing were that good. Whatever the director or fans of the show say now about it, we can all still visibly see him becoming thinner, and weaker, and sicklier. He's in a bad shape, physically, and mentally too. He put on smiles, there's audience laugh tracks, there's live audience clapping, but he's very clearly suffering. It's deeply unsettling and uncanny.
