As a New Mexico native, I would like to remind you that yes, New Mexico is a state, in America, not far from the areas of Oklahoma and Texas mentioned in this video. New Mexico uses, yellow license plates, like what his son described he saw on the truck (not sure if they still use yellow I havent lived there for a few years) The son probably wasnt saying license plates from Mexico that were new, he was more than likely talking about NEW Mexico license plates, one of the 50 states. In America. Close to Oklahoma and Texas. New Mexico, it's a state, It exists. The 5th largest state by land mass. No body runs away to New Mexico to start over. Unless they are bad at geography.

This story makes me think of those cases where a vehicle accidentally drives into a body of water - no trace left - a father doesn’t abandon his son, especially not after his son stood by him through a rough divorce. Another option is the son knows a lot more than he was willing to say. Maybe the father did start a new life and even maintained contact with his son afterwards.

Idk I think saying ‘X never Ys’ is never useful, even if this case is gonna be inexplicable (haven’t watched yet) parents abandon kids they seemed to adore all the time because of underlying mental and sometimes physical health issues that no one may have noticed. L Not saying that’s what happened, but when someone leaves and disappears without a trace, ruling out suicide is as foolish as ruling out foul play. Cause those are the two most common outcomes. A financially and emotionally crippling divorce, losing his farm, his daughter, massive debt, he may have felt that his son would have been better off without him, especially if there was some sort of life insurance along with that uncashed paycheque for his son to find. He may have felt that the longer he lived, the more debt his son would inherent. Or maybe he just had an accident in a remote location and no one found his body. Either way, suicide or accidental death aren’t anywhere near out of the question

I'm always surprised when onlookers make the assumption that someone being friendly to someone else indicates they probably know each other. The average individual has no reason to be suspicious of any stranger who approaches them in a setting like this, and especially in some parts of the US, the default is to be very friendly and welcoming to everyone. This would be especially true if Lenny, in dire financial straits, was trying to sell something. Not only might anyone looking to buy the horse seem like a windfall, but obviously he'd want to be as friendly as possible to sell something.

I have family from cheyenne and I worked in their ems service and hospital during the covid pandemic. Two things I'd like to note is that lenny was actually from strong city, a hamlet attached to cheyeene, and that in a town of less than a thousand people word of mouth is all you need to sell anything like a horse/car/combine etc. Very cool to see a case from such a tiny and poor area get the spotlight on such a huge channel
@ashleyking3385

That's understandable but then again that would mean that the unknown person was from around that same arena. If that's the case someone should've recognized him by description? Or at least have some theory who he is.
@ashleyking3385

@@markonikolic7957 what? no... if someone happens to drive into that area and stops for gas and makes small talk with someone... that second person who lives around the area mentions to this stranger about so-and-so having horses for sale "yea just head on over to RR43 and go about 10 miles in... it'll be on the left set back aways. Go ask him. he'll fill ya in." (literally how some people near where I lived in the country talk) so this stranger then goes to the property and thus we have the beginning of the story. Also farmers or people potentially about to sell something worth a bit of money tend to act friendly. Have even been known to invite people in for some coffee or tea. the stranger doesn't have to be around the area. People are seemingly friendly out in no where. most places do this "farmer wave" when you pass someone on the back roads or dirt/gravel roads they put their hand up by their steering wheel as if to say "hey there friend" and keep driving. you most likely don't have a clue who the person was but it's "the neighborly thing to do."

I know a woman who owns a farm that does programs for disabled kids. She said it's a minimum of a month from first viewing to buy a horse. She's buying for a very specific purpose and it is not necessarily the same as other people, but her first viewing is to get an idea of temperament. Then she does a vet viewing. Then a trainer viewing which is where a second qualified trainer from a different place views the horse as well to make sure her assessment is accurate. Then she does a test ride of a horse (usually this is at the same time as the third viewing). She informs people right off the bat that it takes this much time due to the nature of what she is doing and anyone who is unwilling to put up with that is trying to hide something.

Was Lenny considered a horse trader or a breeder/owner? If he regularly bought and sold horses or if were a breeder who bred for sale, then the meeting doesn't strike me as odd. The stranger were in a bar or at an event and said, "You know, I'm really needing a horse for x, y or z" then someone says, "You really should see Lenny and this is where you can find him." A morning drive up and a friendly "heard you have horses for sale" would not have been odd or uncomfortable.

It's so weird how it's a trope that people in the South are more friendly when some of this country's worst atrocities committed within our border have come from that area. It almost feels like an attempt to sweep that past under the rug, by creating this culture of "see, we're actually all super friendly here, that was the past!!!" Even tho it very much happens into the present too. Basically what China does, caring more about your image than your actions, even tho in reality actions speak louder than words. Yet enough people care more about the image and won't look more than surface deep so it fools most people.

I sincerely doubt that he wouldn’t have contacted his son sooner or later if he was alive. If he was in financial trouble he may have borrowed money from shady people, or was trying to borrow money. But the deal went sour for some reason and he was killed. Just because his body hasn’t been found doesn’t mean he’s not dead. The man who was the potential buyer of the horse knew that he had been seen, so getting rid of the body properly was a lot smarter than just dumping him.

He kept going like that for like 10 minutes but also kept trying harder and harder to get a rise out of us, and i kept having to restrain myself not to react, to be polite to this friend of my coworker. Anyway we got him to leave after we realized neither of us knew him. He was just being "friendly" (and malicious). You don't have to know someone to talk to them in a familiar way. One thing to be sure about, if you have any type of livestock and your business depends on livestock you would know the players in your part of the region. You would more than likely not run an AD to sell off some of your livestock. A lot of these type of sales are done with someone you know or with someone you know who has a friend or a brother of a friend who has a cousin that might be interested. Also, you would not drag your trailer along to talk to someone that referred you. It would be in bad form to show up with a trailer to talk to a man about a horse sight unseen. Someone knows more but has not said anything so I think this was planned. Good job.

He was driving a white Ford pickup truck with a yellow tag on the front and possibly a New Mexico license plate. I can't see what else he could mean, unless he's literally just not saying "New" before Mexico to shorten it for some reason? Or he's saying they went from NM to Mexico? I’m much more inclined to believe that Lenny met with foul play than that he willingly disappeared. While some people do manage to successfully start new lives under assumed identities, it’s not at all an easy thing to do without any money. If the man he left with was someone Lenny hired, how did he pay him? The fact that no body was ever found doesn’t convince me that Lenny wasn’t murdered. Without any information on who the man Lenny was last seen with was and their movements on the day of the disappearance, how would the authorities have any clear idea of where to begin their search? The responding to an ad/someone selling something with the intention of robbery (or worse) ruse has been perpetrated hundreds of times and has lead to some pretty high profile missing persons turned murder cases. Tim Bosma immediately comes to mind, for example.

There must be nothing worse for a child, to see their world (which our stents are when we're kids, even the parents who abuse us) go off to do a 'normal' thing, NEVER to be seen again, NEVER to return. I hope as an adult, he has learnt to reconcile these events & know that he is not to blame. It wasn't him that his father was running from & hopefully, it was something he was compelled to do with the feeling of having no other choice. Are there by bodies of water on or near the route in question? If there are, then this should be searched thoroughly. It’s far too common a thing that people disappearing after getting into a car is just an unfortunate accident where the vehicle/bodies have simply not yet been found.

Similar accidents occur here on Highway 96,since there's a river on one side of the road and a cliff on the other side. Some get lucky and end up meeting the cliff,some are less lucky and go right into the river with an even luckier few being saved by a random tree stump on the river bank. Worst part is the lack of traffic and lack of cell service,so if you're stranded in a wreck out there the chances of rescue are slim unless some local spots you.

My first thought after hearing the story was they were lovers. Being gay in a rural area, especially back in the day, could potentially be a death sentence, and it seemed his messy divorce was known. That coupled with crippling debt and a failing farm, it seems to be the best choice to run away and start over, as many other gay men have in the past.
@Vexertion
@Vexertion 2 жыл бұрын
I agree it’s a possibility but why not contact your son after 20 years where it’s more acceptable? More damage would occur? I don’t know, definitely strange for sure if that’s the case.
@DaniTheDeer
@DaniTheDeer 2 жыл бұрын
@Apples Could be a lot of reasons. If it was known that he was still alive, he'd get all the debt back and be right back where he started. Maybe the son does know something and isn't saying to protect his father. Maybe he is too ashamed to confront that really big hurdle, I mean what would you say to your son? "Sorry I abandoned you for years to excape my debt and start a new life without you."? It has been over 20 years though putting him into his 60s. There could also be a chance he passed away from a separate situation, hell if he was gay in the 90s, theres a chance he got AIDS and he wanted to see the world before he died. I honestly hope one way or another he is out there living his best life somewhere.

Okay, so when the case was being described, I jokingly thought that they eloped, and I didn't take that thought seriously. It surprised me that other people seriously thought that though. I mean, there is a possibility, but I wouldn't bank on it. If that is the case, they probably went to a more accepting place. There were few accepting places at the time and Lenny coming out would've definitely had repercussions on his son

@@Hannah_Rachel_and_Kotik Assuming that it was the case, which I won't bet on, there could be various reasons. The biggest of all would be lost contact. It's been over 20 years. The son has probably moved and the phone number has changed. Seeking out a person after so long is a skill that not many have, and it may cost too much to hire someone who does have that skill. There could also be a sense of shame that prevents him. Even if it was for legitimate safety reasons for himself and his son, abandoning your teenage son is pretty selfish, and the guilt and shame from that prevents him. Even if neither is the case, the area could be not accepting at all and outing himself there could still be dangerous (...and there are social repercussions for abandoning his son, regardless if there is an outing or not). TBH, this is all a bunch of assumptions on my part. I would bet that the car fell off the road and rolled off somewhere to never be found. Even if the elopement theory is the case, I don't know what would go on through anyone's mind

I actually unironically thought this before it was stated. For me, it was the combination of the time this happened (during the mid '90s) and the sense of familiarity that the waitress described. If the man was a transporter, I could understand not being hostile, but feeling that level of comfort? You're being taken to somewhere else with someone you don't know; while you need some degree of trust to do that, you'd likely still be a bit on edge as again, you don't know them and can't guarantee you won't be taken trafficked, driven far away to be killed by some sadistic monster (it'd be smarter than doing it on site), or otherwise be taken advantage of. It'd also be extremely strange to just casually stop at a diner nearby and have a meal with said stranger. Sure, there's the idea of having one last meal from your old home, but he already just did that with his son. Why do it again? And if the conversation was to explain his new life to him, why can't they just do that in the truck? I also feel there's not much talk about the fact that the caller who made the sighting 6 months later chose to stay anonymous. That implies that whatever happened to Lenny, he was in on it. It's even weirder that they went up to a barkeep in a different section to claim they saw Lenny rather than immediately contacting police while he was still there or at the very least brining him along to the barkeep. Clearly, they wanted him to be spotted, but not actually found or returned. We also know the caller was definitely male. I think that might have been the man he left with, or at least someone who was in on the secret, that had done this as a way to tell the family Lenny was still alive without having them be found otherwise. Again, if it was a transporter this could technically have happened at Lenny's request... but odds are you wouldn't still be in contact with your transporter six months later to plan something like that out. Once they took you away, you'd have no more reason to continue talking.

Heck, their truck could be in a body of water after having been in an accident for all we know. I mean, there’s just as much evidence for that as there are all the other theories, which is none. Also, it's not strange at all for a person to pick a person up at their house and then take them to see the horse. I've run into this before. First, there is no way in hell a reasonable person would see a man who has been missing, call the cops and then leave before they arrive. @mrreyes5004

Eh, not really much evidence? What could've happened on the road trip? How could he have been incapacitated? How would he have passed away in the hospital? The video explicitly mentions that there was _nobody_ in the area's hospital(s) matching Lenny's appearance - your "theory" doesn't hold water because even Lenny was admitted as an indigent patient in an unconscious state, the staff whom the police interviewed still would've pointed out "oh yeah, there was an indigent admitted not long ago matching that description", yet there was none. This, along with the other questions I asked earlier that you can't answer, means that this hypothesis likely isn't the case.
