Seems to be a case of the movie not knowing what it wants to be. It wants to appeal to new fans but also leaves references for older fans. Yet, because they want to include everyone, it results in a tonal whiplash where it is uncertain what audience they are trying to appeal to.

Great review 3C and I also completely agree. As a hardcore fan and this being my second favorite franchise, i gave it a 9/10. But as someone ignoring that biase I give it a solid 7. I will say I don't feel like this movie was trying to have a big twist. If you pay attention near the beginning when William reads Mike's last make you see him thinking and realising something. Anyone with a brain would be like "oh... That means something" and then when we reveal Mike has a brother and someone took him I feel it's safe to say most people can get that it was most likely him who did it. So I personally wouldn't count the twist thing as a negative as I feel like it wasn't trying to be hidden. Also I feel the PG13 ranking was well used and I'm not sure what more was needed? Like I get people love rated R but I don't see why that would have been needed. I mean we see a bloody head and a girl's chopped off legs. Not sure what else was wanted. Also I do like the fact that this would be a starter horror movie you show to little kids. As I feel most of the fan base is kids now and I doubt that's gonna change. So if you think about it while you said it's gonna have a smaller audience, show a kid this and they will most likely love it. So in the next couple years we could see a bunch of fans popping up since they watched the movie when they were kids, got into the fan base then went from there. But anyway great review per usual and I can't wait for the sequel.

Warning minor spoilers ahead: I've been a fan since the beginning of Fnaf in 2014, and when it got announced there will be a movie about it in 2015 I got excited and waited alllllll this time for this movie to come out. I know the lore for the most part and had an idea where this was going. But the whole dream thing was kinda annoying because it was a big chunk movie and could've been cut short a little bit, and I was hoping for more animatronic action like we saw in the first few games and that our main 4 would've gotten some individual personalities and voices to connect more with them. Let's be real... that ending felt super rushed. I feel like the movie should've been at least 20 minutes longer to fill in some of the things that we should have gotten more of like cmonnnnnn Blumhouse 15 MINUTES OF ANIMATRONICS AND 5 MINUTES OF AFTON?!?! Nonetheless I still had my fun with it and got the fnaf vibe but I'm far from satisfied. 6/10. Also loved the MatPat and Corey cameos :)

I was relieved it didn't have too much gore in it or even death or brutality. I really liked the comedic parts of it as well, and even though I was surprised, I should've expected it. I love how Scott (and the other directors and people who worked on the movie) didn't ignore the franchises silliness, But incorporated it instead. Especially the Balloon Boy bit lol. And I was so happy to see fellow fnaf fans, honestly. In my social circle I don't have anyone to talk about it, they think it's childish and cringe, so hearing people theorize, react to the cameo of a certain KZbin, just having a good time (one brought a huge plush of Freddy to the movie, now I want one too), it just made me really happy, honestly, and for me, that's the main thing. The movie made me happy. I enjoyed it.

I watched the film on Wednesday and I gave it a 8/10 which I still stand by. My best way to describe the film is a "aftermath of a horror film" type of deal The bad and horrific stuff has already happened, it was what happened to the children and to Mike's brother back in the 80s and 90s, and this film explores the aftermath of tragedy. The concepts are horrific when you think about it, and the film goes into those ideas. Yes it's still a horror film, and yes it could be better, but the problem I've seen some reviewers do is compare it to other horror films. Really this film to me feels more like a mystery and drama in the clothes of a horror film. It has its scary moments, but the true story is about the life of what happens after the murders. I think perhaps its marketing maybe should have focused on this aspect of tragedy, but if you go in with this in mind, it's a really great film. Great review 3C as always

I’m going to make this short and simple. This movie was so good. It was different to other million dollar budget movies and was actually interesting p. I remember being a huge fan of the game as a kid. However, in my opinion, I don't think the movie enticed me the hype to see it theatrically, especially the trailer, to be critically honest. This was a very well made critique. I honestly think this movie (and yes I have played and am a fan of FNAF games) stuck really close to the games story and what changes were made were not drastic enough to make it terrible *cough* Warcraft *cough*. I do agree with you that it is great to have new people fall in love with games and movies you enjoy as well I would say that when it comes to video game adapted movies they have to stick with making it for the people who know the games. Its honestly a trap because if they don't make it for the fans then they lose on all fronts because new people either wont like it or wont understand and the fans who know where it comes from will be angry too so its a loss overall. That being said I do believe this is an excellent example of that middle ground where yes critics don't care for it much but they made changes where it is accessible for new people to understand. Hell it took 3-4 games for the original FNAF story to be told, they made most of it make sense in just 1 movie. Video game adaptations are getting better, look at Sonic, Mario, and Last of Us. Things are getting better. Though I still hold the opinion that the only live action video game adaptations that will interest the general public are games that are more serious and realistic (we'll see how the upcoming COD movie does). I feel like if there is a touch of fantasy it has to be animated and geared towards kids because if its sold as a live action fantasy show it will flop (lookin at Halo). But again overall I enjoyed the movie and thought that it truly was for the fans and it did extend a hand to new potential fans. Hopefully the sequels will come and be just as good if not better.

I am a major fnaf fan, but it was hard to enjoy a fnaf movie if there were some annoyances or problems during the movie. I don’t blame the critics this time. These could be the reasons probably: -the lawyer lady was dramatic as heck , and did not lighten my mood -matpat being matpat -Vanessa’s tone is like an anime’s English dub -some things feel forced, like Mike punching a kid’s father.

I've been a FNaF Fan since 2015 when the 3rd game came out. And when it was announced in April 2015 that a movie of Five Nights At Freddy's was going to happen, I was SUPER EXCITED for it. After 8 years of waiting for this movie to come out, it really paid off. I was so glad that when the movie wasn't with Warner bros anymore because, they wouldn't give the movie a really good budget or good promotion at all. And then when it was announced that blumhouse was going to make the film now , I was surprised and amazed that a horror only production was going to make this highly anticipated video game film a reality. Is this movie worth it? YES!, this movie is really worth it if you're a FNaF fan but if you aren't a fan of the franchise or you're just a person that has no clue what it is about, then I would say you might like or not. Does the movie have any flaws? There are a few flaws in the movie. But because this is a PG-13/15 rated film, I can see why it does look a bit goofy and a bit tame at times. Is The Movie Scary? It's mediocre scary, when I went in to see the film after waiting so long for it, I did get scared a bit from some of the jump scares that were sprinkled in the movie but that's because I didn't know what to expect from it. But after seeing it again last night, it wasn't as scary as I thought it was when I first watched it. But I do think that this is a good movie form pre-teens & teens to get into horror. Does it have gore? No not really, there are some scenes that are either silhouettes or shadows that show a few bits of gore but it's mainly scratches and just the tiniest bit of blood. But some of the deaths in this film were phenomenal. Specifically the scene with Freddy fazbear with the Max character. Is there any Fan-service or Easter eggs in the film that Fans of the series would know? Definitely, there is loads of Easter eggs though out this film that the FNaF Fanbase (including me) will notice. Does the film have a post-credit scene? Yes it does. It is not anything big, but it does look like It's trying to hint to the audience that Blumhouse & Scott Cawthon (The Creator Of FNaF) are wanting to make a sequel. Which I will see if they make it!. What I would change? I Would change a lot of things about this film like, making it more scarier, more intense and gorier as-well so it can be a movie that can be more darker and taken more seriously. For the story I would change it up to make it more understandable for the audience so then they can get hooked to the franchise, but also making it follow more to its lore so then the non-FNaF fans can understand what the movie is trying to convey, and what the story is about. Finally for characters, I would try and give them more information to the audience about why they are there and why they are connected to Freddy's as a whole. (This is mainly from the Vanessa character play by Elizabeth Lail & Steve raglan/William afton played by Matthew Lillard) Rating of the characters The animatronics: Freddy, bonnie, chica, foxy, spring bonnie and Easter egg animatronics. (that were made by the Jim Henson creature company) 10/10 Mike Schmidt - josh hutcherson= 10/10 Abby Schmidt - piper Rubio= 10/10 Officer Vanessa - Elizabeth Lail=7/10 Steve raglan/William afton - Matthew Lillard= 10/10 Aunt Jane - Mary Stuart Masterson= 7.2/10 Max - kat Conner Sterling= 8/10 Hank - Christian stokes= 9/10 Background/ other characters= 6/10 My overall rating? Despite the flaws that the movie has, it is a really good film for fans of the series that have been with it since 2014 to have fun with, and for pre-teens as-well that want to get into this video gaming phenomenon. And when the DVD's come out I will be adding it to my FNaF Collection!!! For a FNaF Fan rating I give it a: 8.5/10 For general audience's I give it a: 6.2/10 BRING ON FNAF MOVIE 2 BLUMHOUSE & SCOTT BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!

The best way I've told myself to ignore the harsh ratings is to look at the Super Mario movie. Granted, that's on a much, much grander audience appeal, but the way that movie had me feel as a fan of the games, finding easter egg after Easter egg. Video game movies never really get good rating critically, but if the fans enjoy it, then I find it a success. With that said, I understand 3C's point on casual fans or people unfamiliar should also be able to enjoy the film, even if they don't understand the story. If the film struggles with that, then sure it may be a little concerning. But this movie was in production hell for an eternity. Give them time to clean up some things and keep Scott as part of production team and I think we could get a few more movies

If you ever feel like someone’s ruining a movie in the theatres, remember my story: I sat next to my friend in the FNaF movie. He would lean in centimetres away from my ear and whisper shitty jokes, using a Walt Jr impression. For example: when Matthew Lillard appeared on his office desk… “Is that the dentist?!” It was grim; he did it every few seconds. He would gasp cartoonishly to the ENTIRE audience with each scare. He’d yell out unfunny memes. He made “jokes” about the animatronics having sex with the humans. When a certain cameo appeared, he announced the same catchphrase to theatre THREE TIMES. All my other friends could barley stand it. I know this sounds made up, but seriously, it was the worst person I’ve sat next to watching a movie. ⚰️
