I started low carb/keto March 2020 at 283 lbs and 68 years old. Needless to say my metabolism isn't what it used to be. Today my weight is 199 - my goals have been 5 lbs at a time, no time limit, slow and steady. My cholesterol dropped 50 points and my A1c to 5.5. This video was on money, your videos are always encouraging. I have 1 more pound to make my goal of 5 pounds, then I will work on the next 5.

That's so wonderful!!! Congrats! I'm 51 and I started keto/IF 9 days ago. I weighed 230 lbs and today I weigh 221. I realize that's probably water weight but my jeans fit a little better. Your story has given me the encouragement to keep going. I feel slow and is now what's best for long-term weight loss. God Bless and keep you safe 🤗

I only do non-scale victories. I haven't weighed myself in more than 6 months because I don't want to get distracted by the scale. I celebrate how my clothes are fitting and how I look in the mirror week to week.

I agree. Looking at the scale every day does my head in.

Ideally weighing your self should only be done weekly or fortnightly, but if you do get depressed at stalling periods then monthly is probably better.

Such comforting advice--stay in your own lane. Until this past year, I've been restrictive dieting my entire adult life. At age 60, my metabolism, slow to begin with, has screeched to a standstill. I'm currently doing IF, lower carb and experiencing very slow and steady progress. I rely on non-scale victories because the scale makes me crazy. Thank you for being the voice of reason Dr. Becky.

Ditto with the scales thing. My clothes a looser after 8 weeks of I/F 2 meals a day and watching my carb intake. I'm moving around faster and feel great. Just started watching Dr. Becky and love her approach to this weight thing. Thanks.

Thank you so much for these videos. I am 49 and finding it very hard to lose weight using the strategies I used when I was younger. I started a low-carb diet 8 days ago and I’ve already lost 5 pounds of my 15 pound goal. For now I am getting great results staying under 75 carbs. I truly appreciate your calm and rational demeanor. I don’t enjoy hype videos with a hard sell tactic. Thanks again.

Non scale related victories...I absolutly agree this is e trembley important. For me, one of my goals was to lose enough weight, whatever number that was didnt matter, so that I could stop taking tylenol on my break at work for pain in my feet and ankles due to my weight. I work on my feet all day. That is my first non scale related goal.

I have been following Dr. Becky's advice about dieting and picking the correct healthy foods. I have been through weight loss stalls and learned so much from this channel about why that happens and things to think about to help, the biggest help was eating more (not a lot) saturated fats in my diet... help my body to start losing fat again and also helping with cold chills. I had read a study a long time ago the indigenous peoples of Alaska eat seal fat (seems gosh) weekly for that very reason, it helps their body regulate body temperature. Another study tested on rats showed Young male rats were used to investigate the effect of alterations in dietary fat type and quantity on energy balance and cold tolerance during an acute cold exposure (−20°C for 1-8 hours). Groups of rats (n=16) were fed either a low-fat diet or a high-fat diet, based on either lard or sunflower oil, for 4 weeks. No differences in energy balance due to either the type or the quantity of fat ingested were found among the four groups. During the acute cold exposure, the two high-fat-fed groups maintained a stable body temperature more successfully than did the two low-fat-fed groups. The rate of decline in body temperature did not differ between the two low-fat-fed treatment groups, but the high-fat, polyunsaturated diet prevented a precipitous drop in body temperature longer than did the high-fat, saturated diet. Clearly, both the type and quantity of dietary fat can affect thermoregulation in the rat. The mechanisms whereby this occurs, however, require further investigation.

Agreed at keeping with the game plan. I've lost quite a bit of excess fat on a ketoish with fasting eating plan. But in the last one or two years, my work hours changed so that I have had to change when I eat. That threw me off. I gained 10 pounds while eating ketoish. (10 pounds in a year is good compared to what I gained each month on the Standard American Diet!) So, I'm back to fasting sufficiently and losing that 10 pounds.

I am on Keto because I like that and on intermittent fasting to lose weight also. I feel so much better even if I didn't have a lot of weight to loose, I had health problems like hyper tension and as I am controlling my alcohol intakes to stay on ketosis, my blood pressure had dropped also ..... The only difficulty to me is to stay straight at parties and avoid too many restaurants when travelling, specially in Italy !

I didn't really have a set weight number I wanted to get to, but my clothes fit, I'm mostly happy with the way I look. I went from a size 16 to a size 10. I enjoy eating this way (keto/low carb with IF) and want to keep it up. The weight loss has plateaued at 150-153 max (down from over 180 which was way too high for my frame). Now I'm in the high 140s - low 150s and it's been this way for over a month. Is it possible for your body to have its own set point where it doesn't want to lose any more? I hope this makes sense.

@thomasjensen62433 жыл бұрын
No, they don't work. Ketones are a byproduct of burning adipose tissue. If you just eat ketones, that does nothing for you.
@Rocadamis3 жыл бұрын
One issue that I didn't hear mentioned in this video is TOO HIGH caloric meals as a mistake we can make. You may be eating Keto (or a low carb diet), intermittent fasting, and exercising, and all of these may have brought you some significant weight loss. Yet now your weight loss has slowed to nothing and it feels like you hit a wall, still ponds away from your goal. The reason could be that your meals between fasting are exceptionally high in calories (fat, protein, and vegetables). If so, you will eventually hit this wall in your weight loss as your body becomes acclimated to the number of calories versus your activity level. The body is smart and knows exactly how much stored fat to take from the body versus the fat and calories it can readily use from food. Whichever of these two processes is the most expedient (uses the least amount of energy), it will be the one that wins the fuel burning race. To break through this wall, try to slightly reduce the number of calories in your regular meals, it doesn't have to be much, maybe a little less fat or protein, keep them moderate in calories. After a few meals like this, your body have no choice but to turn to its stored fat as a fuel source.
