Today I'm starting a new build a 4WD mini rock bouncer using a Suzuki sv650 for the powerplant. This Suzuki sv650 v twin makes about 75hp and should be perfect for this mini rock bouncer! In the first part I'm fabricating hub adapters for the wheels and looking at the general layout. I'm also starting on the front suspension layout and spindles and ball joints. If you have any suggestions for this build let me know in the comments below!

Chris push everything over to the passenger side! Sit side saddle of the motor and clutch. That way you have all the room for your body and it puts the center of gravity a lot power.

@Montana West Photography Studio This is exactly what I was thinking too. That's a bad ass bouncer. Chris can move all that junk too one side and use his body as counter weight. That's the only way too keep this from looking so goofy.

I actually had an idea to do that to a 4 wheeler a long time ago. Stretch the chassis and move the engine and trans to one side. I should really try it someday!

here is a thought for you, you can offset the engine and transmission to the right like a lot of full sized special built rock bouncers. making room for you to sit next to the engine transmission, lowering your overall height and center of gravity and giving more room for suspension travel.

@johnnytheprick he’s a great young man… he loves and honors his family. I know I’ve given him a couple go-cart frames and a motor or two … not sure about the rest of the community… I do know that he’s got a crab of a neighbor who lives just down the street that he has to deal with occasionally… someone who acts just like Jeff Dunhams “Walter” but otherwise he’s got a good bit of support I would say. I need to go see him, I have run across a bunch of taps and dies that I bet he could use and I would rather he benefit from them than some stranger when I croak off..

@johnnytheprick He lives in a mountain town called Weaverville, which is a lot like what you see on the Andy Griffith show, 11 red lights in total in the whole town … it’s a beautiful mountain town, where the weather is not too hot nor is it too cold. We only had what, maybe 2 really cold weeks this year and it never got below 9*F I don’t think and the summers are quite nice with an average summer temp of about 85*. I will be sure to tell him hello. May swing by his house after I get out of my dentists appointment later today…

I imagine scraping the cvt would be the best, fair enough it would be easier and more user friendly with it, but cvt's drain A LOT of the power from the engine. Also with a 650 v-twin the factory clutch and engine should make it fairly easy to get going, and with a low series as well it should be no issue. I think the cvt will cause more headaches than pleasantries

@@evanwebber9981 Exactly- between the diffs, the 2 speed box, and the engine's tranny the gearing'll probably be pretty low. And with a chain going between the engine and T-case, the gearing could be finetuned with different sized sprockets.

@@fitzfarm8694 i think you may be the only one who has properly thought this out. Its really going to be tricky. I think that once he gears it high enough to engage in the lower gears it will effectively cancel out the usefulness of the lower gears. Leaving just the high/low range in the gear box as the effective difference. Its I think over complicated. But this guy is all about exploration and is bright enough to find a solution.

I've seen mini rock buggies use the engine and transmission from front wheel drive cars. Everything from the little v-tec 4 bangers up to Pontiac grand prix GTPs with the factory Eaton supercharged 3.8Ls. Some where auto and some where manuals but they would sitt the engine and transmission in the custom 4x4 chassis so that one sides CV axle would act as a drive shaft for the front differential and the other sides CV axle would run to the rear axle. They would reuse any parts they could like the disc brakes and other parts. Not to mention if they picked the right engine and transmission combo they would have alot of aftermarket performance options to choose from. They made for some very interesting and rather potent buggies. Light weight mini buggy with a strong FWD car's drive train made for very few pounds per horse power to move. The power the weight ratio was everything for those mini buggies. Basically the same weight as a side by side when it came to the chassis but youd have the HP and low end TQ of a cars engine. The GTP supercharged 3.8L wasn't a slouch in a 3600+lb sedan. Just think of what it would do in a 2000lb or so 4x4 mini buggy chassis.

This definitely looks like it's going to be one of the most fun projects you've made. I do have two points to touch on though. One, I feel like you're going to want better clearance in the rear, I think it's going to get hung up frequently, and that shouldn't be difficult considering the CV axles. Two, I think it would be better served with a Rekluse clutch rather than the cvt. Cool as that sounds, I'm confident you're going to run into engagement issues with the lower gears. As always though, I love what you're doing 🤘🤘 Edit: looks like my comment on the ground clearance issue was premature 😂🤦‍♂️

As many people are saying, the cvt will probably be useless, especially on a rock crawler. A lot of people use fwd car gearboxes as transfer cases in thise kinds of builds. Just weld the diff and cut the bellhousing off. That way you get some extra gears, reverse and extra gear reduction (final drive). You could end up with a ridiculous crawl ratio! Really excited about the build btw.

Had an 07 Sv650s, I put 140k miles on it without anything more than regular wear items, oil, filter, chain, sprockets, pads and tires. It was a flawless bike after upgrading the suspension to some TLR forks and a 636 rear shock. I think it had tighter gearing than the XR650l I traded it in for, if you just gear it down and add a F-W-R box it'll be fine for crawling. It's got plenty of grunt.

Run that transfer case upside-down. Four link would center over (about) helping also with center of gravity and put the seat a lot lower. Knees over t-case when sitting. DRAW IT OUT...😉😁

That cat's gorgeous! Cars are awesome companions. Really loving all of your builds so far :) The combined manual/cvt transmission might be too parasitic on power though. But it's awesome to see people try new things👍🏼

I was looking and if you had those top hyme joints going like the bottom ones ,and the bottom ones going like the top ones. You wouldn't have a problem for your seat or feet. ( like if you was to flip it over like it is right now) keep up the great work, your doing a great job and God Bless 🔥💯💪🏼👍👍🙏🙏
