When I doing a throwie, a drunk bloke threw a bottle at me, it cut my hand, and now I have permanent nerve damage, still finished it though, and was the first time I used highlights. :)

In the 90s graffiti was territorial with all the tagbangers in LA and San Francisco. Nowadays it's different though.
@georgecandelaria25374 жыл бұрын
Yup I remember that crews hated other crews. I'm 40 now and lived in San Jose and Fresno. It got bad back then. I went to the military and met other writers and we talked about that all the time back in the day.
@AnmlPeeweeIsHere3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 90s had a lot of tag bangers. Here in LA currently there's a rise in graffiti again with all the new kids trying to get into it. There's definitely less tag bangers and I think thats more due to social media popularizing piecing and graffiti as a whole
@eastsideofthetracks83113 жыл бұрын
Oh there’s still tag bangers lol there definitely is because I’m always running into them and getting banged on
@AnmlPeeweeIsHere3 жыл бұрын
@@eastsideofthetracks8311 believe me ik I run into them too but with less frequency. The 90s was the peak of tag banging in LA
@isotonic90022 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it was territorial the scene was a lot tougher and people got robbed more and stealing was part of the game. But even in la were you had tag bangin the objective was the same get your name in as many places as possible preferably with style. It wasn’t like they only raged in there hoods and marked there territory like gangs often do

So much accurate info in this video. I’ve not been painting long but luckily I had a friend who’s been painting for years and he’s introduced me to a nice handful of writers. All of them have been super chilled and nice and give me tips on improving. I’ve also been out alone in a legal spot and had a few good convos with writeres I happened to meet there. Long story short: A lot of graffiti artists are really nice, from all walks of life and just want to make the somewhat boring world a bit more colourful and keep the suits on there toes

Nicely put mate. I'm im my 40's now &. started painting in 89! I was a BBoy white kid at first then got into other more serious shit,but I'm the last 10years since I discovered the array of CHEAP low pressure paint that I didn't have to rack I was BACK! But that door opened to a whole new group of friends (decent)! And changed my outlook on life completely!! I'm just a normal bloke from the UK who paints the odd train.... HEAVY SHIT now ! But the roadsides & jumping out the car to put a nice silver sub/throw up is my only vice. Nuff Respect 👌👍

Love the fact you added in that certain yards are territorial/held by a local crew. For the people thinking it is just so they can have it to themselves it is and it isn't. More people painting that yard means more attention and focus on that yard from the law, and I am probably not the only one who has had to seen thrown cans between the trains in a layup and has to have picked that shit up or people spagging the trains after the bar has closed. Don't burn your local yard.

The only reason i started painting in my city is because me and my friends are the only writers here the rest are just a bunch of kids that write their names on walls and dumb shit so me and my friends have set out to Brightin up the city which has been really hard because even tho it looks ez as he said in the vid it takes alot of time and planning and takes longer than people think i was one of these people i use to think that graffiti was of the top of the persons mind but no it takes hours or even days just thinking about the sketch itself
@docholiday57662 жыл бұрын
My friends and I started for the same reasons. There are 2 older writers in my town and then we have a bunch of kids, and some adults who paint swastikas and slurs. I started just crossing them out but now I'm doing shitty throws over them.

I disagree with number 1. Even if writers go out with the intention of just having fun the inherent act of illegally putting up art is and will always be a somewhat political statement. A rejection of authority, private property, and the woes of capitalism. Intent isnt everything.

I've met a lot of graffiti writers (the illegal ones who tag the streets etc) and I can say they're the humblest and realest people I've ever met. The whole concept of graffiti writers being violent thugs is just so untrue. Yes, they do things that for "normal" people are incomprehensible and stupid but actually they're just people like us who have a rather odd hobby.
