Can I use a Word that’s already taken? (Graffiti Name Discussion)

Video outlining my opinions on choosing words to write that are already used by others. There are some instances where it matters other times where it doesn't...and other times where people are overdramatic about it. At the end of the day its up to you but my best word of advice would be to observe what happens around you in your scene when you start writing your word.

Back in the day (early 1990's) one of my boy's gave me my writing name. To this day I still have to deal with new kids trying to rock my name. Till I saw your video I didn't really know why. I have been on tons of freights up and down the west coast, have been in a couple of graffiti magazines (remember those), and have been active dropping burners and doing productions with my crew all these years. If you google my writing name most of the clean funk styles are mine. After seeing your video, I somewhat get it. I'm old school and don't really like putting up my own stuff on the internet. Anything you find that's mine has been put up by others (it's like .5% of what I have done over the years). And maybe that's the problem. Back when I first started, having flix (pictures) of your stuff was a sure fire way of getting caught for everything you did. I didn't catch on to placing thing anonymously on the web as it was new at the time. There was always roomers by other writers that police run internet searches with local graffiti names to try and match your style to build cases (hay, it was the early 2000's). Like most old school writers of my generation we keep to our tight nit crews.

I have a great tip for people who can’t choose their name: you just have to Write down the alphabet in tag form and then circle the letters you like. Make a word with some of those letters and there you got your tag

This is why i liked the old school SA, before the 80's 90's american NY style influence most painters just painted their own names, and even got creative like late 80's we had 3 Michael's known locally as MIK77, MIKE and MICK8T. Then everyone had a fake tag, i stuck with MY birth name. proud of it.

alright, I know this video it like, four years old, just wanted to point out: sometimes, even common names can be used without someone else using them. I used to do MAGE before switching over to STORM, never really seen anyone using either of them before.

Look it just doesn't matter because there is a writer from france called panda but he has a few other names, I choose my name "koef" without knowing it's already his but it doesn't matter because A:were 4 countries away B:that's one of his other names not his main name

i used to write SkaR but those letters i feel are the most used to now i write LazeR but i always find myself wanting to write my original tag. i live in a suburb where nobody bombs and the cops know i write it so it sucks

on the west coast of the US we like to use words that arent actually words like my buddies name is Magic but he tags it as MAGQ my other buddy goes by rebel and tags RBULL so if you have a name that you want but its taken just twist the spelling a lil it comes out sick most of the time
