I see too many parents focus on the negative. “Don’t do X.” Instead tell the child what you want. Are you ready to eat? or Thank you for finishing your plate! I am so proud of you for listening to daddy! Do not reward bad behavior! Instead of giving attention for negative, only give attention for what you want him to do. Then celebrate like crazy.

It's important to reward good behavior. Yet realize we don't follow kids. Kids do not have a well develop brain yet to make the best decisions. Some parents too still don't know how to make good decisions 😕 but all and all the structure of the family goes well when the child follows the parents so that's doing what needs to be done to get them to do what the parents assists. If mom needs to get out the door at a certain time then she needs to get out at a certain time and the child must follow. We mold the child.

One thing is making your child eat everything off their plate even if they are full or not hungry.. Now as adults we eat everything off our plates out of habit causing over eating. Wish I was never taught that. I wont teach my children that.

Another tip is to *SING* what you want to say if it's appropriate to do so. Have a jingle that relates back to your family expectations. Choose a little tune that you can instinctively recall and you can freestyle or prepare little rhymes for instances that have commonly been a challenge for you all. Example: *(Tune of "Mary Had A Little Lamb") *It's time to put your shoes on now Shoes on now, shoes on now It's time to put your shoes on now One foot at a time.* Or: "Speak to me with a quiet voice so I can hear your words." and you can do the same as part of your technique for letting some air out of that frustration balloon: " *I'M* going to use a quiet voice So you can hear my words." Experiment and learn what is helpful for you and *your* family. Find your *Groove*. ❤🎵

Anyone saying this makes your child “speed eat” and will cause an eating disorder … just no. My son will take hours to eat his food if you let him. The point is that you make them focus on their meal rather than other things - typically they’ll take that long because they are talking or playing with it. It’s not about forcing them to eat everything on the plate it’s about getting them to eat until they are satisfied without all the distractions. When we give my son a time limit he eats until he is full and if there’s anything left I let him put it away for later. LOL people these days want to let kids run their lives - kids are not capable of seeing the big picture! They need some guidance!

Re Lincoln not being able to settle down and listen to the story book, my son was the same but I found out much later that's how he did listen to the story, he could not lie still he actually had to jump on the bed as I would read, but I thought he was being naughty and so I would say I am not reading until you lie down and be still, he would plead for me to read it and lie down but as soon as I began reading he was up jumping again, so I would leave the room. I gave up on his jumping while I would begin to read because he would do it every time so no story time ever again. I have learnt that some children process things in a different way. He is 30 now and he has been and lived in more places in the world than I ever will, guess he just can't lie still after all.

Yes, I used to listen to Focus on the Family a Christian radio show. A mother came on and spoke about children and that each child is different and learn in different ways. She used to home school her son. And he would always do other things while she tried to teach him. She thought he wasn’t listening to her until one day he told her. If I don’t move, I’ll stop listening. He was listening to what she was teaching him, he just could not sit still while doing so. That’s when she herself started studying children and their different learning patterns.

This is coming from an 11 year old girl who is stubborn: -don’t yell at your child if you want an answer that’s why they won’t answer -don’t compare their life to how bad yours was when you were their age THAT there is what is gonna make them upset -don’t rush them for anything get them ready early for whatever it is and then continue

Theres tips are really incredible When your child refuses to do something... Instead of saying: "You have to do it. You have to write/ brush your teeth/ switch off the TV." Say "I can see you really don't feel like doing it.When I was small, I sometimes didn't like it too when Grandma made me do it. But we all have to do it beta. Come, I will help you." Let's EMPATHISE before reinforcing the rule! Let Children know it's okay to not want to do something, and sometimes we still have to and that you understand. Be in your child's team, even while putting the boundary!

Everyone judges me cause they say my kids don't listen and when they go outside they get dirty and climb everywhere. But my kids are hyper (one has adhd) and I don't ever give them a phone or tablet or anything. When the kids of the girls in the family are misbehaving they are automatically given tablets and phones. But I'm the bad parent. On the plus side mine hardly get sick. They prefer brocoli and carrots over chips and candy and it's not me making them. They've been grocery shopping with their aunts and etc and everyone notices that lol. I'm only here cause they don't help clean their mess lol

If they don’t want to eat and they have to go to school, they can eat at school where they get free food or I’ll pack them snacks and lunch. Why would you advise on starting an eating disorder? Goodness.

Two things 1. If your yelling the chances r , I think he learned from you. 2. I would ask him y he is doing that, if he is not answering. I would tell him that emotions always change following them can make a person unsatisfied. It’s ok if someone tells you what to do as long as they r not saying it in a mean tone, words, and facial expressions/mean faces. Or ask him how you should say it to him. If your words are long I recommend acting out a scene about it with your husband or friend, infront of the child

First of all studies have shown kids can eat small amounts and still be full. Parents often over feed their children, but kids eat what their bodies need and shouldn’t be forced to eat when their not hungry. That’s cruel. Would you like to eat old hard reheated spaghetti for breakfast? Also, kids crave variety. Some parents feed their kids the same old thing every morning or night for the week. Kids need to try new foods, fresh foods, and small portions. If they then finish all the small portions, then you give them more to eat. But to force them to eat and force them to eat their old dinner just makes them hate food, resent you and dinner time. Not helpful. How is this lady an expert anyway?

MoonKat here she trying to tell donot waste food and if will not finish he or she will get the same food in next meal she doesnot mean that you do it every time and put them in struggling for finishing food its just an abvoius manner to tell your child donot waste food and its neccasry to finish their food because its their body need for good health

Yes, my rule of thumb is to realize thier bodies are small, so feed only enough for the size of thier stomachs. And if they don't want to eat it, don't force.

Grew up eating seconds for breakfast because didnt have those options. Its awesome that you didnt have to do that but eating dinner for breakfast wont kill you esp if your a child that probably eats cereal or pop tarts. She never said eat the entire amount or what exactly it is. If the child is eating a healthy dinner having it again for breakfast won't lead to obesity. To add...when you give them time they learn they are given a time limit which is accurate. Are children given longer than an hour at school? Is that abuse or wrong no its life.

How to get your kidsbto listen: Make sure they are looking at you. Make sure they are repeating what you are saying. Keep your sentence short. They will not remember long sentences. Give less breakfast and take the rest to go. - to get them to eat breakfast. Don't give them too much choice. Give smaller choice. - to get them to read 📚 . Example, choose between two books. instead of more.

I don't think it's a good idea to take the rest to go because I'll get it all over the car and blow up the car and the teacher doesn't want to be bogged with forcing them to eat so that's a bad idea.

“Whatever you didn’t eat for dinner, that’s your next meal.” This is the most horrible and cruel advice!!! The people clapping have never had to live it obviously, I have. . How would you (as a child) like squash and zucchini for breakfast every morning? I’m still Affected by it emotionally 37 years later, and almost became bulimic. It doesn’t make them eat things they don’t like, it just makes them go without breakfast! How many the adults would do the same thing to themselves? You won’t treat yourself that way but you’ll treat your children that way? Take the food you hate the most and force yourself to either eat it or have it for YOUR next meal! then do that again the next day and the next day. This is such cruel advice and I can’t believe somebody would suggest it in modern day. Absolutely shameful!

Oh, my first foster parents were like that. He would hit me with the belt. The thing was that I told them that my former guardian (my Vietnamese adoptive father) had hit me with a belt. I wonder if I did not tell my foster parents that, would they still hit me with a belt?? I resent and never forgave them for it. They would hit me excessively like crazy. None of those work at all.

Maybe you should rethink the way you talk about your spouse. Comparing them to speaking to the child is extremely disrespectful and hurtful. It teaches the child to have the same disrespect that you have. NOT a healthy parenting behavior.
