The Arabic language has had a major influence on Spanish. Some estimates put the number of Arabic words in Spanish at around 4,000. As well as the 47 Arabic words that Rawad pronounces, can you find the 10 others that are hidden throughout the video?

In some cases, to show the connection between Arabic and Spanish more easily, we have shown the classical or Spanish Arabic word, rather than the word most Arabic speakers would use today.

The connection of Mexican Albur to Arabic is in doubt. The origins of this phrase are mysterious! However, the Spanish word “albur”, which can refer to a kind of fish, or be a synonym of “azar”, almost certainly does come from Arabic.

I am Turkish, and Turkish language and culture also borrowed most of these names from Arabic. Like kahve (cafe), tas (taza), şeker (azucar), narenciye (naranja), zürafa (giraffe), İnşallah (Ojala), hatta (hasta), kadı (alcalde), bornoz (albornoz), boyoz (bollo), sabun (jabon) and many more. This is one of many things that I like 👍while studying Spanish. By the way, thanks for this great video 👏.

It’s interesting that a decent amount of Arabic words that got into other tongues are either archaic or changed meaning in todays spoken Arabic. “Cup” for example is a “Kasa” or “koob” while “Tasa” means bowl - “Tast Laban” means a bowl of Ayran. There’s also a lot of names of Arabic origin that barely exist in Arab countries but are common elsewhere. Like “Barrak” and “Burak” which are common in places like Turkiye and Africa. There’s also a little bit of Turkish words that got into small pockets of Arab communities. Like “Belki” for maybe and “gumruk” for customs and tax, there’s also some words that are used interchangeably with their Arabic counterpart - “Khashuga” for a spoon and “Boyah” for paint, like a shoe wax. Some other words like farming tools, trades and whatnot.

​​@@samarabdullahh7962from what I know alot of people spoke Turkish dialects before Attaturk but it was written in an Arabic script like Persian still is , but Attaturks goverment decided to adopt a Latin type alphabet better suited to Turkish and while alot of people couldn't read well anyway ,kind of like a blank canvas for the new Turkey.

Como nativo puedo decirles que la toponimia en varias localidades de España y México también viene del árabe. El pueblo de mi bisabuelo, Guadalcanal, Andalucía viene de Wad al-Qanal (وادي القنال) (río del canal), Madrid de Maǧrīţ (مجريط) y Guadalajara México y España de wād al-ḥaŷarah (واد الحجرة o وادي الحجرة). El dialecto andalusí del árabe durante la ocupación de la península ibérica influyó sobre las lenguas mozárabes (lenguas romances en territorio del Emirato) y estas a su vez influenciaron a las lenguas romances modernas sobre todo el castellano en Castilla que incluso se dice había traductores de árabe en las cortes de Castilla. Otros idiomas de España como el catalán por ejemplo casi no fue influenciado porque se desarrolló en territorio de la actual Francia que supo repeler el avance árabe de Al-Andalus a la vez que el Rey Pelayo de Asturias inició la reconquista de la península ibérica de norte a sur hasta solo quedar el Reino Nazarí de Granada en los 1400s por lo que una vez capitulada la reconquista permenció una fuerte arquitectura y vestigios culturales árabes en Andalucía.

¿¿¿Territorio de la actual Francia??? Pues no... No digas bobadas Y el castellano actual fue influenciado por dialectos mozárabes, esto es por los dialectos del latín hablados bajo ocupación musulmana que se entremezclaron con el castellano viejo. El reino de Granada en el 1400??? vas mal... Después de las Navas de Tolosa toda Andalucía occidental fue cristiana y lo mismo el algarve portugués. El reino nazarí de granada fue en el 1200 y pico, osea la Andalucía oriental y sólo por la aparición de la peste negra se prolongó casi 300 años más.... Es lo que tiene hablar de oídas...

You can learn Standard Arabic and talk to all 22 Arab countries. They will understand you but you will not understand them unless they speak in Standard Arabic because each country speaks its own dialect that is very different that sometimes we cannot understand each other. I recommend you learn the dialect you are most interested in (Levant area, Egyptian, GCC, or west African). Levant and Egyptian dialects are easiest while the GCC dialect is the closest to Standard Arabic

Y hablando de palabras usadas en México, la palabra “alberca” también proviene del árabe. Con respecto a las piezas del ajedrez, sé la palabra “alfil”. "Naranja", "limón", ajedrez" are not original Arabic words, even though they were introduced to Spanish via Arabic. These are Sanskrit words that arrived to Arabic via Persian. "Taza", "alubia", "momia" or "berenjena" come from Persian words via Arabic. "Zanahoria", "guitarra", "atún" or "arroz" are from Old Greek via Arabic (the latter possibly a borrowing from Persian in Old Greek). "Rincón", "sugar", "azafrán", "algodón", "tamarindo", "jirafa", "mezquino", "almacén", "jabalí", "barrio", "asesino", "gacela", "alcalde" or "tambor" come from original Arabic words. The words I knew and weren´t mentioned here are "algebra", "alfalfa", "albaricoque". Great video, very well narrated! ¡Muchas gracias!

Interesting to point out... the Arabic word "lazord" was taken from the Persian. The Arabic word was then used in Latin as "lazulum". Then became "azul" in Spanish.

Masha Allah.. Al final ha llegado el vídeo más esperado por los amantes o estudiantes de Árabe. Desde que me matriculé en una universidad islámica de India, comencé estudiar árabe y ahora hablo árabe bien Alhamdulillah. Además desde hace dos y media anos llovo aprendiendo español también. Así que yo suelo colectar todas las palabras origen del árabe y revisar la etimología de las palabras parecidas con Árabe. Por ejemplo solía oir siempre la palabra "Alcalde" . Un día busqué por internet y encontré es originó de la palabra القاضي y Alberca de البركة y Almacén de المخزن mucho más como Ataúd, jarra, fulano y albañil. Pues nada, doy mis gracias a todos para este intento tan diferente y fabuloso 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸

Jajaja, sólo porque Marruecos haya ganado la semifinal, no quiere decir que el tema de conversación en Español Fácil sea comparar el español y el árabe, creo que este vídeo está fuera de lugar.
