Rumor has it that 7-Eleven Hawai'i is similar to konbinis, i.e. Japanese convenience stores, as it stocks tons of ready-made foods and Hawaiian-style classics like musubis and warm manapua. Come along as I taste 7-Eleven Hawaii-style. 🌺 New videos every Thursday and Saturday 8 pm EST.

@@crealkillr I think stussycat77 was more saying that most convenience stores here in the states don't carry anything near the quality of what Hawaiian ones do. I, myself, certainly am no stranger to buying something grab n' go from a convenience store. But, I do wish ours had such awesome stuff like these do and I wish it were better quality than it is.

fokiat What has that to do with whether I cook or not? I won’t eat any more if I had to buy food out than I would if I cook. It’s most likely that I would eat more home-cooked food than what I’d buy from a 7-11 store. Most of the food Emmy was eating was based on the Japanese diet. You don’t have nearly as many large Japanese as you do Hawaiians or Samoans. That food is a lot healthier than the fast food we have in the contiguous 48 states. Here the population is getting larger and larger every year. What’s the reason for that? Certainly not the food from 7-11. 😁

I now want to visit Hawaii just for the foods your 7-Elevens sell. I live in Delaware and feel cheated that we don't get that shit here. None of our 7-Elevens sell that shit, and I can count the number of times I've shopped there with the fingers on one hand. Around here, the big deals are two regional convenience stores: Wawa and Royal Farms. The former is known for their subs, soups, and desserts. The latter is known for their fried chicken, hot dogs, burgers, and potato wedges (RoFo calls them "Western Fries").

Growing up 7-11 is just a staple of local Hawaii culture. When we'd go to field trips 7-11 is where we got our lunches. Also, of course, the rice is good here it's one of our staples. lol My favorite thing was a musubi with like a thick slice of ham dipped in teriyaki sauce (and no spam just the slice of ham), I used to eat that for breakfast sometimes before school growing up. Also their sushi is pretty good and the manapua and somen salad are delicious. Thanks again for making me appreciate my 7-11 more. All that food you ate are foods I grew up with. Also, in Hawaii we have a food truck that goes around neighborhoods like an ice cream truck (it has the loud music too), but we called it "The Manapua man" not the truck but whenever we'd see the truck or hear the music everyone would get excited because they knew the "manapua" man would be on his way. The truck had all the local foods you tried and more especially manapua and rice cake (I used to buy that a lot, it's good and it's all I could afford as a kid), they don't come around that much anymore but I wish they still did. I appreciate you showing off our unique US 7-11 to everyone. Mahalo nui loa.

watching this was SUCH a nostalgic feeling. . . i was born and raised in honolulu when i was a kid, and when my dad would get off the late shift ( he was a HPD cop ), he would pick us up to eat some musubi’s and manapua from the 7-11 from our house, topping it all off with a guava hawaiian sun. LOVE it! wish 7-11’s in the states were more like this!

I put 7-Eleven Hawai'i on my bucket list for my recent trip to the Big Island (all the 7-Elevens are on the Hilo side BTW.) My traveling companion thought I was out of my mind. He recanted after having the hash dumplings and a spicy tuna nori roll (yes it is totally crisp!) We got more hash dumplings and the pork and cabbage dish. The latter became a lunch and then a breakfast with a couple of eggs fried (yes, that big for us.) I really wish 7-Elevens on the mainland had good food like this. Great way for us to control costs on a two week trip. We spent more money on snorkeling with mantas and flying above the volcano in a helicopter.

My dad was was born and raised in Honolulu. Although later he ended up here on the mainland through the Navy, I grew up on Hawaiian style comfort food! Musubi is always a favorite! He passed away nearly 18 years ago, and I still make his favorite dish when I’m feeling nostalgic... Spam fried rice! Tiny cubes of fried spam, scrambled egg and frozen peas all tossed with sticky rice and teriyaki sauce then fried till the bottom is crispy and browned. That’s how he made it, so that’s how I make it!
