So many interesting things in this video: the thermal trail the beaver leaves behind in the water, the cartwheels a few hogs did, and the reminder to check behind you as you’re leaving your hunting area! 😁 Thanks for sharing your exploits with us. 👍🏽

Lol, when editing the vid, I watched me walking back to the truck and NOT turning to scan. I did scan, but only as I was loading the truck outside of the gate, which was bad form. So the lessons I share, while intended to help others, are lessons that sometimes I need to revisit from time to time as well.

That was a complete surprise to me. I didn't see it on digital NV, and Ben didn't notice it at the time, but as you saw, it was caught by the thermal on his rifle.

In the movie, Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise and Dennis Quaid (among others)? At some point, Quaid's team had loaned an engine to Cruise's car and during a race, Cruise's car had trouble getting out of the pits and his pit crew was trying to push him out and started. Quaid orders his pit crew to help. An official tells him he can't do it because it isn't his teams car and Quaid's reply was something like "That's my engine in that car and my guys are pushing my engine." So I wasn't so much shooting Ben's rifle as much as I was shooting my scope on Ben's rifle. 🙂 What can I say? He left me in charge with all the guns. So of course I was going to chose the best option for the job.

In my hog hunting experience, I like NV for closer ranges and thermal for mid to further out or for just spotting anything coming in. They do have their own applications though.. Great year Brian!!! Keep it up.

People ask me why I mess with digital night vision when I could be using thermal. The reason why is that not everyone can afford thermal (although prices are getting more reasonable each year, it seems) or needs thermal for their particular issue. A lot of good hunting can be done with digital night vision and that is how I did a lot of my early night hunting. So I get to try out digital nv every couple of years. Like thermal, it has improved as well. I was totally blown away using it for beavers. With that said, digital night vision can be the gateway drug to thermal. I think a lot of people buy digital night vision to get into the game, only to find it is really cool to hunt in the dark and they decide to up their game and buy therm. Their digital night vision often becomes a backup optic or a guest optic if they want to bring a friend along to hunt that doesn't have NV or thermal.

Crazy how some hogs will come right back to the field before you’re even a few hundred yards away after walking through it, being loud, turning on lights, head lamps, taking photos, talking, etc etc.

Nice. I got a SiteMark Wraith when they first came out but haven't got to use it yet. I immediately started looking for a thermal scope but haven't found one in my price range...yet...
@CarpeSus11 ай бұрын
Well, if you haven't gotten a thermal, you could either sell the SightMark to up your thermal budget or start playing with the SightMark. It will still be a good learning experience before you get thermal. I just hate that you have the gear, but aren't using it. 😉

The SPCE bullets have an interesting profile. Have you recovered any from the hogs?
@CarpeSus11 ай бұрын
Yes, when I first started with them in November or December. They seemed to have a wacky bit of terminal ballistics and I was told that the batch of bullets we were given were not uniform (after the fact) and so I don't know how any of the data compare with properly made bullets.
