This is what's going to make America pop off soon. People can't afford to LIVE. you can work a full time job and do everything right and you still won't be able to afford the basics. It's coming to a head soon. Too many people are in this situation.

To everyone struggling…you’re not alone. We’re in this together. I worked a full time job for the government until I was diagnosed with cancer. My husband is a truck driver. We had to leave our home when the landlord doubled our rent and our utilities jumped. We took a loan out for an RV and moved south as rv living in the north is awful. We are barely making it. Can’t afford groceries. Homelessness can happen to anyone and most of us are one small paycheck away from losing the roof over our heads. You are all in my thoughts.

We left Jacksonville in 2019 paying $750 for a 1 bedroom. Came back last year and the same place was $1600. Both of us work full time and we’re essentially homeless now. We have coworkers that are homeless too. The greed is disgusting. On top of all that, we’re finding rentals that are asking for 1st and last month plus double deposits now. We’re talking $5k+ just to get in the door. And the older generation just refuses to acknowledge that there’s a serious problem. It’s all “I did it on my own, you can too” when they have houses they paid $50k for back in the 70s, when bank loans were done with handshakes.

Yep. At a certain point, we won't be able to live this economic lie anymore. The fundamentals are completely rotten: debt loads are increasing, people are blasting through the money they saved during COVID, and prices are skyrocketing. Where's that real estate cool-down that economists predicted for 2023? 🤡

Yep. They made their lives in pre-monopoly America when businesses competed on pricing. Now they're fixing them together, if there's even two in an industry to fix them. It's heading toward a two-class society and most of the older middle class still don't see it coming because it hasn't quite reached them yet. They feel pressure but still have the home they bought pre-pandemic and wonder why everyone else is so lazy. Two class societies work out very poorly. China, India, and soon to be the United States are great examples of how not to run your country. High crime. 97% of the population underinsured on healthcare and going to work sick and coming home to a car or coffin room. That's the future here. If you're not rich, you're poor. All your money will go to the government, healthcare system, and corporations. Home will be a thing of the past. The government and corporations want near-slave labor workforces. They don't want moms, dads, and families anymore. The entire population will live and die just to make help some CEO pay for his 10th vacation home. The rest of everyone else won't even have one real home.

My dad bought his first house in San Diego in 1978. 18% interest on his mortgage and the dollar was worth about 4x more, so a $50k house would be the equivalent of $200k today. People are freaking out about 8% mortgages today. Imagine a $200k house at 18%! No, mortgages weren't closed with a handshake...you watch too many movies.

@@floridaroadwaysI live right across the bridge (15 min bus ride) from the subway that leads into Montreal. It's a good neighborhood. Rent is about $650. I've been here for 5 years. The apartment was freshly renovated when I moved in and it's a 3 and a half. I'm a loner so I pay all my bills myself. I did my bachelor's degree in environmental geography, and I remember seeing the plans for immigration back in 2015 for the greater Montreal area. I knew I had to find a good, cheap apartment and lock myself in while I finished school, started saving for my retirement and try to grow my career. Thank god I did because my brother is back to living with my parents and I would honestly die than have to do that. My father is sick and my parents are getting old. I also hate my hometown and haven't been back since 2019. True story. Sometimes I feel sad having to live in a somewhat small apartment at 34, but I remind myself it could be worse.

People should chill on being critical here and use their brains a bit more. By the time first, last and deposit is made, these ladies would be looking at 4 - 5k just to move into a two bedroom somewhere else. Add to that utility transfer payments, a uHaul, boxes etc and boom 5k gone just to move from one ghetto to another. The sister has kids in the home; they aren’t cheap and it’s tough to save money when you are already poor and have kids. The other young lady with two kids in Cali likely has $300 to $600 a month in child support payments back to Dad. That likely kills off around 30% of her income. My impression of the young lady is that she is making the best of her situation as she can. She is sweet, articulate and presentable. All the stresses upon her must be difficult and yet she maintains a good attitude. Give her some love people; most of you wouldn’t hold it together as well as she if you lived that life.

Saying everything except wages have gone up is total BS, at least here in SoCal. McDonalds starting wage is $17/hr and within a few years it will be $25/hr. People keep demanding higher and higher wages for unskilled minimum wage jobs and then wonder why the cost of everything keeps going up and up. Or when people vote in new taxes for landlords, business owners or so-called evil rich people well guess what, your paying for it via increased cost of everything. Nobody is taking a pay cut so you can get more free or cheaper stuff, either you step up your game and increase your skillset or get left behind always bickering about everything.

@@kevinc8955This is the elephant in the room. It's not like these new apartment and housing developments are just sitting empty; plenty of people can afford them, including the younger generation. I have a couple friends (26) that just bought houses. The people saying "we want low income housing!" all seem to live in major cities and want to live in the nicer areas, and don't seem to realize said housing is "the hood" for a reason. I grew up there: people don't take care of their shit and the gangs ruin it for everyone. There's also the issue that a lot of people now don't know how to live with less. "BuT oLdEr PeOpLe gOT sTuFf cHeAp!" Well sure. There were also fewer people back then, no monthly subscriptions, no smartphones or smart anything, no car payments on BMWs they had no business owning, your vacation was to your relatives nearby instead of Fiji, and everyone's incomes were lower period.

@Xiosoranox I don't know what you're talking about. I'm 26 and nobody I know around my age are living in luxury. Most people I know are in multi-generational housing with their parents or relatives and drive 10+ year old cars and barely have money left after their bills are paid. I'm right now living with my 32 year old sister and my 60 year old parents in a small house because my sister got cancer and it wiped our family out financially supporting her. My grandparents meanwhile own their own home since 1960's and never had less than 4 cars in the driveway and ljved comfortable most of their lives while my grandmother never worked and my grandfather was a low pay car mechanic. You have to have a college education and get lucky to live a life as comfortable as most boomers did. It's undeniable, the wealth statistics are easily found that prove the boomers had the highest wealth opportunities in American history. Can Gen Z succeed and live a nice life? Of course but it's harder and their is a lot more competition. When my grandfather applied for a job, he was competing against locals. Now job openings get posted on the internet and people on the other side of the country can apply for these jobs. You are competing against every single person in the country in your field nowadays.

I’m glad I don’t have to deal with apartments anymore. Rent has become insane. My last apartment was in the late ‘90s, and when rent went up to $700 for my one-bedroom, I decided it was time to get into a house. I bought a cheap townhouse (three bedrooms, two bathrooms) and my mortgage was $500 per month. I refinanced when interest rates dropped several years later. It’s paid off now. I was very lucky to be able to do that when I did; the cost of housing has made it unaffordable for so many now. I’d love to move to a nicer part of town, but my townhouse isn’t worth enough to make that possible. I’m not complaining - it’s a good, solid place that keeps a roof over my head at very little cost to me. I’ll take that over escalating rent any day!

We have a home here that's paid for. My husband is getting ready to retire. He's looked online but property is so expensive there now. Alot of people moving there from other states. She lives close to Charleston.

$800 a month for a motel. That's literally a motel. Here on the east coast, I've got ads in my local for ROOMS for rent for $1000/m It's insane. And all the "low income" apartments have raised their rent and hand out rental assistance applications with their own application because they know the state will often subsidize their greed

You’d think that they could afford a little better with 3 adults. But that’s crazy paying over 800 for that place!! When we first moved here to Gilbert I know this isn’t Gilbert but we paid $1000 for a very nice 3 bedroom home. Then 1350 for 3 bedroom huge yard and private pool. Shoot can’t get nothing like that anymore. We are paying 3500 now for a 3 bedroom no pool

I live in Florida and a place like this would probably cost $1400. We pay $1550 for our place. It's by far nicer than the one in the video but we also got a really good deal from our landlord, and it took us MANY applications and a few months to finally get an approval.

I moved out of Florida to WI. Make almost double for the same job and got a 1,200 sq ft two bed two bath apartment for $870. Although it is going up to $920. I have AC, heat, in unit laundry, dishwasher and vaulted ceilings. I had a roach infested studio in Florida for $900.

@@Mark-rl5xl yup, sounds about right!!! 😩 i literally love florida and ive lived here my whole life but it's practically unlivable here due to the costs. I would say you probably need to be making like minimum 60k a year to afford even just a crappy 1 bedroom alone. Otherwise, unless you are ok with roommates your other option would be find an extremely tiny crappy studio and pay BARE MINIMUM $900 and you still mighg need to apply to MANY before you get an acceptance...

I live in a small rural town in Ohio. It's not bad if you own your own home, but rents are high here too. We own our home so no rent or mortgage. But not free. Still have insurance, property taxes, and have to maintain. But even with that, it's still alot cheaper then renting.

I'm over one state. Rural area in Indiana. I also own my home, so no rent or mortgage to pay. Overhead is very low here. Rent isn't bad yet, but it will. So better to own your own home at this time of age.

The reason why america's rent is so high because of coastal NIMBY (not in my backyard) efforts to exclude dense and diverse housing. Because of that, Californians, like myself, go to suburb-like areas in other states.

I live in Jersey.. My first apartment three years ago was 1100 and at the time I thought it was outrageous. Now I pay 1800 (luckily I split it with my fiancé) and that’s on the “cheaper” side. One beds can run from 1700-2200 easily now, it’s terrible.

That mold's terrible and the slumlord running it should be ashamed. That said, the actual area seemed pretty quiet and chill. Wouldn't call it America's worst ghetto by any stretch. Having said that, I'll chime in with my own experience now. I lived in the ghetto in Cali and we paid ~1600 a month for a 2 bedroom with no AC, no amenities like a pool or washer/dryer hookups, etc. The actual apartments were super old too, and didn't even have vents so mold was a big problem. There were roaches as well. It really sucked. At night, the park across the street would fill with dudes wearing all black who'd occasionally pop off guns and shit. One day, this landlord decided he was going to double the rent and renovate everything, so he told us we had a month to get out while he renovated, and that if we wanted to we could come back when it was over and pay 3k a month to live in the hood. He did this to the whole block, and I watched so many devastated people pack up and leave because they couldn't afford such a jump. I moved as well, because I didn't have a choice. I had to get out regardless while he renovated, and I wasn't about to come back to spend 3,000+ a month to live in the fucking ghetto. About a month later, a package of mine got shipped to my old address by mistake so I had to go back there to pick it up. Their "renovations" basically consisted of tearing out the carpet and putting in some cheap fake hardwood flooring and that was it. They're desperately trying to rebrand this hood location to appeal to people in the tech industry, for whom dropping 4k a month on a shitbox is no big deal. To this day, I laugh at the idea of some high paid professional thinking they're getting a good deal spending 4-5k a month to live in the highest crime part of town. This situation is fucked. Sadly, as bad as the people in your vid have it, things somehow manage to be worse all over the country. And half the time even contacting the owners of these properties is impossible because it's faceless corporations and blablabla. And if you try to escape by owning your own home, good luck with that shit. Banks will literally watch you spend 3k a month on an apartment without missing a payment and then be like "sorry sweetie we don't think you can do 2k a month on our mortgage :)" so fucking stupid.

Watching this from Rome, Italy and living in London most of the year, and it's so sad to hear all the violence, poverty, kidnapping, guns, drugs etc..in the US, I feel like the living conditions everywhere are getting worse and worse, I used to think America as a great country with endless opportunities but now it's totally the opposite and I feel lucky to be in a place where I see beautiful streets with flowers and people without weapons, streets without drug addicts and don't be scared to go out or getting poor.

Yall see videos like these and get a warped perspective. Most poor paying jobs in the US are now paying at least 15 an hour, that's a $900 pay check every two weeks. She has 7 people in her house. I'm not judging her, but NO ONE ANYWHERE can support 7 people with one person making a low income. Yes the average person is struggling nowadays, but they aren't struggling this bad. A teenager working at McDonalds would be better off then them if they could find a place for 800 rent. Especially if they apply for government assistance, food stamps, etc.

This blows my mind. It was a while ago now, and I understand the economy obviously changes, but back in like 2012-2014, Me and my Fiance rented a two bedroom apartment in a "decent" area for $725. And it was WAY nicer than this, and I'm not saying we were living in a luxury apartment by any means, but compared to this for $100 less? That's crazy. I've been telling friends to stop renting and buy a home, because rent is ridiculous now a days and you are literally just throwing your money away. I understand that there are circumstances that prevent people from being able to get a mortgage, but man... Paying $825 for this blows my mind. Me any my fiance pay $1125 for our mortgage on a 4 bdrm, 2 bath house in a good neighborhood. That's only $300 more! This is sad...
