People need to remember, Racing in America is about going fast in strait lines. Yes, any German car is going to kill most any American car in the winding roads. But this is not Europe. Further more, people need to stop comparing everything to the M3 or other cars costing 70K$$$$. For a fun, everyday car the GM 3.8 SC and 5.3 FWD cars are more than enough.

Keith George I think Boss 302 nailed M3 (and R8 as well) on Laguna Seca track. Charger is a cheaper M5, Corvette can compete with some nasty europeans for half the price and etc. I have a 95 Trans Am and even that one handles quite well. Don't get me wrong, I'm european, not american who would favour national products :)

Uh...what category is that? BMW = 3400 pounds. GTP = 3400 pounds It's not GM's fault that the 3 series don't have any power. 230 HP is about the same as the GTp's 240, but the 200 ft. lbs of torque that the BMW puts out is nothing to the actual 315 foot pounds put out by the GTP's engine. GM claims 280, but actual numbers are 310 - 315. If the BMW had won, you'd be all happy. Truth hurt much?

Passthedutch 1977 I have a 1992 bmw 325is that has 237k right now 😂 if you know how to maintain a car like an adult, they rarely have issues. If you drive them like the teenagers drive gtps, yeah they’re gonna break (find me a gtp with over 200k without a new transmission, or one that’s slipping). But if you have any kind of self control and you don’t treat every stoplight like a drag strip, ANY car will kick longer.

Frank Castle and my friend dyno’d his 02 gtp and it made 210 hp and 230 tq at the wheels, the reason they take off is purely the S/C and the fact that they give you awesome linear power. These cars aren’t actually comparable from a drivers stand point... gtps interiors are junk, too. I mean I could go on for days, end of the day: GTP: fast car for people who can’t save a lot of money up, sacrificing build quality. And BMW: they’re called the ultimate driving machine for a reason...

Very reasonable outcome, bmw down 10 horsepower. To all the people saying he sucks for not winning off the line with AWD, you guys need to realize these cars only have 230 and 240 horsepower, the grand prix driver won't spin his tires off the line if he knows what he's doing, the gtp also has 280 lb ft tq vs the bmw like 200 which helps the grand prix jump off the line.

I don't know if there is a good example of a cheap BMW in the British version, but in the American version, Tanner Foust found an old 3-series for less than $3500 (I don't remember exact price though.) It was the episode where Top Gear went to Texas to find a cheap alternative for the pick-up truck. What ever money was saved buying that 3-series could be used to upgrade it. I will admit, if you're trying to find a BMW for less than $3500, you're going to have a helluva time trying to.

Nifty Gaming You didn't maintain it, then. 4000 mile oil change intervals for mine and NO oil consumption. I've run Mobil 1 since 28,000 miles and has 146,000 now. Last year I had a lower intake gasket leak, which was caused by the shitty DEX-COOL, which is now fully switched out. Not the cars fault. Change the mufflers, then. Only thing I've had to do to mine, and it's an '02.

Untill the engion cautches fire 3.8 is a great motor but they made mistakes when they put the supercharger on them someone in the comments was right they had major over heating issues that could and did resoult in engion fires and the supper chargers would not last the gears would go bad in them

Considering the 328xi more than likely has the 255 hp version of the n52, what are you trying to say? That engine, stock, has more hp than a 3.8 s/c, while only differing about 10-15 ft lbs of torque from the 3.8. this is more than a fair fight..

To start with I own a Grand Prix myself so I am not dissing on the Grand Prix. But for you to put out there that its 20k more blah blah cmon man. To start with the xi Bimmer is all wheel drive,huge power loss, its just a 3.0L and not that much slower.Everything about the Bimmer is more fit and finish.No road noise and loose plastic shit like the GP!More comparable is the BMW 335i..then lets see who wins!The sound system,HUD,Seats,leather,radio put GM to shame. I like my GP but dont hate reality

Also the last year they made the GTP in 2005 they still only had 260 horses. My 2008 Accord Coupe V6 (only 3 years newer) which is only a 3.5 liter has 268 horses stock. No supercharger. I think Pontiac failed majorly failed throughout the whole production. They could have done a lot more with the car out of the factory with a 3.8.

Lars Frerichs Dutch is right. Compare the years of the cars. And 3 years can make a hell of a difference. If that's the case drop the 05 gto or the 05 G8 on the 05 Honda you speak of. Grand prix was a building block for Pontiac. Their latest G8 and Gto could run with the best of them and if they switch out the cheap ass parts they'd be a company to reckon with in the game rn.
