I have been following Dr. Esselstyn's plan for three weeks. I started after getting routine blood work & being shocked by how high my cholesterol was. I am otherwise healthy, was eating a low meat omnivore diet, lots of plants, get daily exercise, normal BMI. First week was hard but now its become easy with zero cravings. I feel amazing and wanted to see if anything had changed so got a lipid panel. My total cholesterol went from 271 to 193 in 3 weeks 🙌. My LDL is still too high. Went from 187 to 122. My HDL did also go down from 62 to 48 but thanks to this video I know not worry. I am thrilled with the results and I have more energy than ever and feel so great. My husband is doing this with me and he hopes to get off his statin. Thank you so much Dr. Esselstyn!

I did it in 1 hour 9 mins. I have an advantage since I was always a vegetarian. But more than that I have another advantage- I switched from rice-based vegetarian to rice-based vegan with very little oil in 2021 Oct after listening to Doctor John McDougall on utube. This doctor is spot on at 19:27. I established a new doctor last December as I moved to another State only to have a 10" appt. I wanted to get further breakdown of my LDL as my cholesterol is very high only to be rebuffed. I changed my eating habits and after 8 months wanted to see if I was on the right track only to be told 'it hasn't been 12 months, why are you wanting another blood test?' My results were just as high as before even though I lost 6kg (13lbs). Obviously my diet had to change again

The damage always happen in arteries, why?

Many thanks for posting this! I wish that someone would ask Dr. Esselstyn not about just a focus on cardiovascular disease, but the down sides of the whole food plant based diet on other longevity markers and a possible omnivore balance. One major one is maintaining strength and muscle through the years. Plant based diets can indeed provide the proteins, but it is so much harder to obtain amounts to sustain muscle. The other major concern I have is: we have essential amino acids and essential fatty acids and those through plant based diet (and major avoidance of fats all together as mentioned by the Dr make me want to ask: what about all the fatty acids needed?) There are other draw-downs (for me) as well, e.g. the enormous gassy state while under whole plant based foods ... and major hunger which whole fatty foods avoid. I wish there was a solid debate between the carnivores, omnivores, and plant whole food community to really shine a proper light. Thank you again Gustavo for sharing!

Study of over 60's show those who lived longer had higher cholesterol. In a systematic review titled "Lack of an association or an inverse association between low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and mortality in the elderly: a systematic review," Dr. Diamond and his co-authors analyzed 19 cohort studies including 68,094 elderly people (age 60 years or older). The main findings of the study were: 1. In 16 cohorts (92,756 individuals), no association was found between all-cause mortality and LDL-C levels. 2. In the remaining 3 cohorts (37,764 individuals), an inverse association between all-cause mortality and LDL-C was observed, meaning that higher LDL-C levels were associated with lower all-cause mortality. 3. In 5 studies analyzing individuals aged 80 years or older, no association was seen between all-cause mortality and LDL-C in 4 cohorts, and an inverse association was seen in 1 cohort. The authors concluded that high LDL-C levels are inversely associated with mortality in most people over 60 years, and that this finding posed a challenge to the cholesterol hypothesis, suggesting a re-evaluation of the guidelines recommending pharmacological reduction of LDL-C in the elderly. BUT my HDL went down from 72 to 51 and my Triglycerides went up from 72 to 108! QUESTION: I wonder if the dementia Dr. Esselstyn sees in some of his friends with longtime hypertension is due to the hypertension itself?, OR due to the effects of the long term use of the medications to treat the hypertension ??
@annemccarron22817 ай бұрын
If you have hypertension you are struggling to get blood to diffuse adequately throughout the body. Inadequate blood flow leads to diminished oxygenation. Tissues without proper oxygenation die. The blood pressure medication probably caused less tissue death in the brain than there would have been without the medication.

I started with a higher total, and lower small, dense. You get that??? The McDougall diet was making me WORSE. I believed in him and I was getting sicker. Today, I'm on animal low carb and my small, dense is 271. Cut down BY HALF by not eating carbs. Oh, my LDL is high, but people with high LDL have LOWER ALL CAUSE MORTALITY. Look it up.

Do we know conclusively that unprocessed meat injures the endothelium? A lot of meat eaters eat a lot of other garbage, and I don’t think meat has been isolated for this purpose. Anyone have any thoughts?

Dr Esselstyn talks about reversing heart disease. Does he ever present actual cases with radiology images of before/after pictures of plaque regression? That's what I am interested in.
@plantemus Жыл бұрын
Yes, in his book Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease you can find the photos and all the research. This is published scientific research available to all medical doctors. Dr. Dean Ornish also published landmark research in this topic.

@@plantemus Thank you for your reply. Encouraging to hear. Are these ultrasound images?

Esselstyn never reversed anything in any living creature. If he did he would have some awards, honors, inventions, patents or Nobel Prize related to nutrition or cardiovascular health but he has zero.

Best treatment for atherosclerosis: Vitamin C Why do only coronary arteries clog with cholesterol and not veins or small capillaries? If "high cholesterol" is the cause of clogging your arteries, why doesn't it clog the arteries in your finger, your nose, and the smallest capillaries in your toe? Scurvy = No vitamin C in your diet. Symptom: Your blood vessels break and you bleed to death. Think of the sailor of the past. Scurvy of the heart = Just enough vitamin C from food. Symptom: Arteries around the heart are not strong enough to resist high blood pressure. Damage is repaired with cholesterol LP(a) to prevent worse. After years of repair, your arteries become clogged. A guinea pig can also not synthesize vitamin C by themself, just like humans, and needs supplementing 50 mg vitamin C every day and weighs only 1 kg. 1 orange = 50 mg vitamin C. Do you really think that 75 mg vitamin C for YOU is enough? What is your weight? Enough vitamin C supplement of at least 3000 mg. per day gives strong and flexible arteries. Cholesterol is not needed as a repair agent. Cholesterol in your coronary arteries is broken down and burned in your liver. Dr E is talking about heart issues. I don’t think he is recommending his way of eating for everyone, especially if they have other medical issues.

Can plaque be removed by following WFPB SOS free? I have Familial Hypercholesterolemia, been vegan for 40+ years and WFPB SOS free for 3 years. Cholesterol still high. Plant based dr wants me to take statins. I don’t want to!
@plantemus Жыл бұрын
According to Dr. Esselstyn's research, the endothelium can be healed but I would recommend reading his book on heart disease or contacting him through his web site www.dresselstyn.com/ At the bottom of the web site you can find the contact information.

@@plantemus thanks. I have his book but haven’t finished reading it yet. I am planning on contacting Dr. Esselstyn and maybe be a part of his seminars. I, like you, am frustrated that I am WFPB SOS free for 3 years after decades of a vegan diet but my numbers aren’t good. I’m happy for people who can successfully use diet to normalize their cholesterol. But I must say I am somewhat envious. Thanks for this presentation!

@@ronnieb.hudson2604 I'm the same, but I watched a vid of Dr T Colin Campbell once and he said he had the same problem. After all these years on a WFPB, his LDL was still high. He said he wasn't worried because every other marker was fine and put it just down to genetics...and he's nearly 90 and still very healthy and active.

Balsamic & rice vinegars are laden with sugar. Why not apple cider vinegar?
@martykerns3802 Жыл бұрын
If you like apple cider vinegar, then use it. Many people don’t like it. Balsamic vinegar has some sugar but I wouldn’t agree that it is “laden” with sugar. It’s also a question of quantity of vinegar used. Dr E’s not recommending that anyone drink 8 ounces of vinegar a day.

Granted that we have injured our endothelium in preceding decades eating the bad american diet and granted that nitric oxide helps in the functioning of our arteries, don't we need animal protein to heal, rebuild and strengthen our damaged endothelial and other tissues?
