I have been following Dr. Esselstyn's plan for three weeks. I started after getting routine blood work & being shocked by how high my cholesterol was. I am otherwise healthy, was eating a low meat omnivore diet, lots of plants, get daily exercise, normal BMI. First week was hard but now its become easy with zero cravings. I feel amazing and wanted to see if anything had changed so got a lipid panel. My total cholesterol went from 271 to 193 in 3 weeks 🙌. My LDL is still too high. Went from 187 to 122. My HDL did also go down from 62 to 48 but thanks to this video I know not worry. I am thrilled with the results and I have more energy than ever and feel so great. My husband is doing this with me and he hopes to get off his statin. Thank you so much Dr. Esselstyn!

Great show. How simply and clearly you have explained things to the public! I am a 66 year old Indian lady and came third in the World Open 10 k Bangalore TCS run in my age category, on May 21, 2023. I did it in 1 hour 9 mins. I have an advantage since I was always a vegetarian. But more than that I have another advantage- I switched from rice-based vegetarian to rice-based vegan with very little oil in 2021 Oct after listening to Doctor John McDougall on utube. Very few ladies over 50 in India are fit. Doctors like you are changing the way people think about disease.. Thank you.

I have idli or a rice based dish. Sometimes a beaten rice dish or upma for breakfast For lunch it's white rice with sambar or a stew based South Indian kootu etc and a veg dish. Dinner is mostly dosai with coconut chutney. I have chia seeds and pumpkin seeds powdered with a slice of white bread and some dates for teatime. Using very little oil has helped You will have to Google all the above Indian dishes.

This doctor is spot on at 19:27. I established a new doctor last December as I moved to another State only to have a 10" appt. I wanted to get further breakdown of my LDL as my cholesterol is very high only to be rebuffed. I changed my eating habits and after 8 months wanted to see if I was on the right track only to be told 'it hasn't been 12 months, why are you wanting another blood test?' My results were just as high as before even though I lost 6kg (13lbs). Obviously my diet had to change again

The damage always happen in arteries, why?

QUESTION: I wonder if the dementia Dr. Esselstyn sees in some of his friends with longtime hypertension is due to the hypertension itself?, OR due to the effects of the long term use of the medications to treat the hypertension ??
@annemccarron2281
@annemccarron2281 29 күн бұрын
If you have hypertension you are struggling to get blood to diffuse adequately throughout the body. Inadequate blood flow leads to diminished oxygenation. Tissues without proper oxygenation die. The blood pressure medication probably caused less tissue death in the brain than there would have been without the medication.

Dr. E's wife and daughter have a KZbin cooking show. They show how to make several types of oil free dressing. Easy to make and yummy. Type Ann Esselstyn's salad dressing on the search bar in KZbin. Dr. John McDougal's free website also has oil-free vegan salad dressing recipes. No charge for McDougal's recipes

Best treatment for atherosclerosis: Vitamin C Why do only coronary arteries clog with cholesterol and not veins or small capillaries? If "high cholesterol" is the cause of clogging your arteries, why doesn't it clog the arteries in your finger, your nose, and the smallest capillaries in your toe? Scurvy = No vitamin C in your diet. Symptom: Your blood vessels break and you bleed to death. Think of the sailor of the past. Scurvy of the heart = Just enough vitamin C from food. Symptom: Arteries around the heart are not strong enough to resist high blood pressure. Damage is repaired with cholesterol LP(a) to prevent worse. After years of repair, your arteries become clogged. A guinea pig can also not synthesize vitamin C by themself, just like humans, and needs supplementing 50 mg vitamin C every day and weighs only 1 kg. 1 orange = 50 mg vitamin C. Do you really think that 75 mg vitamin C for YOU is enough? What is your weight? Enough vitamin C supplement of at least 3000 mg. per day gives strong and flexible arteries. Cholesterol is not needed as a repair agent. Cholesterol in your coronary arteries is broken down and burned in your liver. Study of over 60's show those who lived longer had higher cholesterol. In a systematic review titled "Lack of an association or an inverse association between low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and mortality in the elderly: a systematic review," Dr. Diamond and his co-authors analyzed 19 cohort studies including 68,094 elderly people (age 60 years or older). The main findings of the study were: 1. In 16 cohorts (92,756 individuals), no association was found between all-cause mortality and LDL-C levels. 2. In the remaining 3 cohorts (37,764 individuals), an inverse association between all-cause mortality and LDL-C was observed, meaning that higher LDL-C levels were associated with lower all-cause mortality. 3. In 5 studies analyzing individuals aged 80 years or older, no association was seen between all-cause mortality and LDL-C in 4 cohorts, and an inverse association was seen in 1 cohort. The authors concluded that high LDL-C levels are inversely associated with mortality in most people over 60 years, and that this finding posed a challenge to the cholesterol hypothesis, suggesting a re-evaluation of the guidelines recommending pharmacological reduction of LDL-C in the elderly. Balsamic & rice vinegars are laden with sugar. Why not apple cider vinegar?

If you like apple cider vinegar, then use it. Many people don’t like it. Balsamic vinegar has some sugar but I wouldn’t agree that it is “laden” with sugar. It’s also a question of quantity of vinegar used. Dr E’s not recommending that anyone drink 8 ounces of vinegar a day.

I’m happy for people who can successfully use diet to normalize their cholesterol. But I must say I am somewhat envious. Thanks for this presentation!

He said he wasn't worried because every other marker was fine and put it just down to genetics...and he's nearly 90 and still very healthy and active.
