Used to go into most of the Chicago rails. Willow Springs was about the best, BN Cicero and House 9 were ok once you learned your way around, UP under I-55 could get tight... Going back behind Comisky Park could get dangerous at times. Been to CSX and NS and some of the others. Always freight in Chicago.

I used to drive to the Long Beach and Oakland shipping ports and let me say it is wild and crazy it takes long to get in and it takes long to get out. I've seen trucks crash in there, I've seen fights, seen container handlers drop containers. Anything you can think of shit even truckers unhooking their loaded chassis without putting the legs down on purpose no one cares in there. Good luck when they go on lunch an extra hr of wasted time for you, also had a couple protests so people would block off entrances making it harder for us. Never going back to doing that shit here in cali

I only had box truck experience with air brakes aside from schooling and luckily got hired and they pay just as much as I was going to be payed otr. Im home early everyday. Im feel fortunate but at the same time am curious as to how companies are going to hire in the future. Here i am no hazmat experience and got hired right out the gate. This same company asked for 2+ years experience back 10 years ago, but lack of drivers has them hiring true rookies.

As a former warehouse employee for many years, it's best to keep your trailer planted against the dock bumpers. Some companies dont have very long dock plates and it can be pretty nerve wracking when the plate is barely on the trailer. Back up to the dock until you cant.

NEVER, EVER turn those corner knuckles until you drop the container...EVEN IF EMPTY!!!! have seen too many trucks take turns at the rail yards even at low speeds loose them to one side. There is absolutely nothing holding that container to the chassis except its own weight, but some containers don't load properly on chassis because it has been dropped and bent or chassis is warped.

I think hauling containers can be a good job, depending on where you live. I know guys in the Jacksonville area that do real well. Here in the Carolinas, Charleston and Savannah seem to be in play most of the time. Of course, if you want to wander a bit further, Norfolk, Brunswick, Jacksonville, and Miami can get you out of your rut. You don't need a lot of chrome for containers (cans), so you can get a decent tractor for $25K and run it for a year or so, do an inframe when you want to take time off, and enjoy a relatively laid back driving experience.

I really enjoyed your video and your positive outlook on what you do. It's a blessing to see your church work and the bibles being sent overseas. I will be picking up two crates with my Chevy van and 14' aluminum utility trailer at the Joliet IL intermodal terminal. What kind of machines do the terminals use to load crates onto a small trailers like mine? I'm hoping they'll have some kind of a crane or something like that so they can lower it from above because the trailer has 1 foot railings on the sides. The other alternative would be some kind of a sling to lift with a fork truck from above the crate.

Two things. First, the day you made this video, you had a tail light out on your tractor (saw it while the camera was under the chassis you were hooking to). Second, at the customer where you broke the seal, it looked like you had room to back way past the door then pull up as close to the bushes on the left, then cut it hard to the right, straighten up and back straight in....as opposed to cutting it from where you were. Of course, I wasn't there and may not have gotten the big picture. But in my experience, setting up so I can back in straight is always easier. Good job, Driver..!!
