Leptin is a hormone we like because it tells our brains to turn off hunger, which helps to keep our weight under control. But that only happens if leptin’s message is getting to the brain. In this video, I explain leptin resistance, why it is common, and how it affects your ability to lose weight and control hunger.

Unfortunately hunger doesn't go away for some of us even while practicing OMAD and keto. I have lost almost 140 pounds over the last 13 months but I am still hungry most of the day.. it stinks but I keep at it as I am prioritizing my health regardless of the discomfort of the hunger.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was looking for. Wish there was a Leptin monitor, similar to those Glucose monitors attacheable to your arm which tracks its levels and sends to an app. To figure out if whatever you are trying is lowering the amount of leptin in your system and to see if you are doing things right to get out of leptin resistance. And also to measure ghrelin levels.

If you have insulin resistance you likely have Leptin resistance. If you have fat belly, likely to have insulin resistance. Try keto but stay away from any "keto" things in a bag (processed foods or artificial sugar)!! Just whole foods. If you eat properly butter, clarified butter, full cream milk, meat, eggs, nuts, vegetables, and fruits the hunger response work properly. If you eat Doritos, you can go through 100 bags and you'll still be hungry and full of crap. No processed food! No sugar. No wheat. There you go.

Hi Dr May I ask your thoughts on Fruits and Vegetable smoothie ? On a daily basis In my case, as “insurance” , as oppose to non believable multi vitamin pill Is it a good complement to a balance diet ? My consist of Carrot, Apple, Banana, Wombak, Lentil, Tomato, Avacado and Oats I take half 400ml (half a protein bottle) a day, just at the final hour of Intermittent Fasting I eat it like a yogurt, because it quite chunky (because of the fibre?) There r days where I just don’t have any vegetable and fruits Not due to lack of trying, just being busy Cheers Kaiser from Oz

A suggestion for a topic: Neurotoxic Aluminum! And how $FDA$ allows hiding labelling! Eg cheese. Eg salt with caking agent having Neurotoxic Aluminium and all the powders. If that salt is used in ingredients the Neurotoxic Aluminium does not have to be labelled! The $FDA$ allows not listing Neurotoxic Aluminum on food labels! Eg Neurotoxic Aluminum silently used in cheese in high levels: 1 as salt emulsifier to make surface nice and melting better, 2 as caking agent to keep slices separated! It is labelled on table salt using E numbers and most common one now is Neurotoxic Aluminum based. Also used in flour, garlic powder, other spice powders, drink powders, most POWDERS. If anything like salt is listed as ingredient, then the Neurotoxic Aluminum does not have to be labelled! So wherever there is salt... Oh and Neurotoxic Aluminum is also used to keep your thoughts separated. Happy Alzheimer's Day! That is don't eat cheese, table salt, spice powders, drink powders, most POWDERS, processed foods, $medications$, $drugs$, $vaccines$. Don't use Aluminum cookware of any sort. Coffee and tea that grow in Aluminum contaminated soils. Don't use Aluminum foil of any kind.

I am 69, healthy, but it's been years since i gradually lost a sense of hunger and apetite. I eat small amount of food because it's meal time. I never tried stopping eating completely, out of fear of what would happen. Would i collapse? Why is it so. Do i produce only leptin and no ghrelin, or something else is going on? I alway had weird hunger feeling. A week before my period, i would go off food, and in both pregnancies in the last trimester i went off food and had to force myself to eat. It took me a month after both deliveries to get hunger back to normal.

Could you help me to understand that how fasting works, because for me when Ive fasted ghercklin occurs which is the hunger hormone I often ignore; would that mean my metabolic goes slow then weight loss could take longer because the body could take it to store fat instead of burning. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say, to do with metabolic rate whilst fasting is it possible fasting could store my fat and slow down metabolic rate ? which I definetly don't want ? ?

My question is if someone has undiagnosed Leptin resistance and hypothyroidism and takes a GLP-1 that caused weight gain could it be because one condition remains unaddressed , almost like taking the GLP-1 is jumping the gun without addressing the underlying cause of the hormone imbalance to begin with so taking the GLP-1 worked against the patient ? Leading to weight gain with the GLP-1 no diagnosis or treatment of Leptin resistance or testing the thyroid and hypothyroidism ??? Hope you can answer I have a story to tell. I can’t even believe it , but I know many men and women are suffering needlessly . Thankyou for this video .

I van feel my stomach grow but i NEVER can feel when im full, just satisfied and thus i am overweight badly. I eat until i am satisfied (which is usually when my stomach hurts and i end up crying then afterwords i get peckish again.) It is like a daily battle and i feel as if i can't 'communicate' with my stomach or hardly any signs that i am full until my stomach hurts. (Even when i was a kid.) Luckily I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and i can see what is going on and i can finally get my weight better under control. I mainly noticed it isn't natural on this third time doing a lifestyle change, that i don't have the signs of eating disorders or connection to food just.. It taste good and i can't tell when I'm full. But omg i would rather shoot myself in the foot than suffer another INTENSE cravings when i am practically gritting my teeth and rocking. I just want to be normal.

Carbs, food sensitivities, additives and gut disbiosis can all be a cause. Dr Amen has some good research on this. Dr Jocker has more on keto and Just in Health has some interesting stuff on gut health. The book Healthy Gut Healthy You may also be useful (also on KZbin). In terms of weight gain, chose low calorie density foods such as vegetables to add volume without exceed calorie requirements for the day. Then just add in healthy fats (anti inflammatory omega 3), good quality protein and small amounts of lower sugar fruit such as berries. High fibre, no refined foods. Do it together as a family. It will be a life style that sticks more easily that way

with all do respect I hate associating leptin resistance and being over weight or in general metabolic syndrome. because it is complicated and to be honest it doesn’t makes lots of sense for me personally. However the insulin resistance makes way more sense and easy to understand. since we know insulin have indispensable role in energy metabolism and anabolic role, being insulin resistant make your cells in deficient in energy even if you have tons of fats on your body, this only fact disrupt lots of normal functions of our body.

I've been doing keto and IF for about a year and a half now...initially lost about 10 pounds and felt great. Last year though, I gained almost 25 pounds over the course of about six months, and nothing I do seems to touch it. I tried carnivore, I tried upping carbs and calories (thinking perhaps I was undereating), I tried decreasing calories, I'm currently exercising regularly... and have NO other symptoms other than this weight, so don't think it's an issue like hypothyroidism or anything like that. I am hungry more than I think I should be, and it's frustrating to feel like I can't eat as much as I want to because it'll prevent any progress with weight loss. Any insights?? (I'm 24 years old). Will take any suggestions. Thanks! :)

Most diets cater to preventing hunger because thin people think that fat people overeat because they are hungry. Nope. I will say that I think Dr. Gilaspy is compassionate and is not using this misunderstanding to present her material. I just think other "experts" have messed up others by making suggestions such as eating every three hours or calorie-reduced foods will be the same thing as the real one.
