Does your doctor demonize fat in your diet? Will eating fat kill you? Can you eat fat to lose fat? Does eating fat suppress appetite? Can fat reduce your perpetual hunger? Oh yes it can, but why does it work? How does it work? Is it healthy? Is it safe? Are the results long-term? Be smarter than your doctor about the essential positive role of dietary fat. These are great questions and you deserve an answer so that you can have a more factual discussion the next time your doctor recommends a low fat or plant-based diet. I answer some of these questions in this video, and the rest of the questions on my other videos on this channel. You deserve good health, happiness and great energy. Use the strategies described here to move in the right direction.
Making the changes needed is not too difficult for a while, sustaining the changes until they become your Way of Life is far more challenging. In this episode we explore the right way to prepare and eat fat as an essential part of your diet as well as using it to suppress appetite so that you eat less and less often because you are SATIATED. We also provide some of the easy to understand science your doctor may be ignoring. Help them to know the scientific truth about how your body works.
Let’s ask and answer the right questions to optimize your health! Whether you agree or disagree with our content, if we’ve made you think and ask questions, we’ve done our job. Leave comments below.

I'd like to mention, I mix a stick of butter with a tsp of garlic powder, tsp salt, tablespoon of dried parsley and a tsp of pepper. Then I add 2 or 3 Tblsp of olive oil and mash it together and put it in the fridge. It goes on just about everything, especially veg, but also on meat. Gorgeous.

Thank you Dr Cywes. Just the shot in the arm I needed today. I went to a church event last night where there were snack foods. I had just finished my lettuce wrapped bacon cheese burger with Mayo at home - So satisfying that the snack food didn’t even look enticing. Amazing to not have cravings with a strong emotional support system in place. Just grabbed a bottled water. And my day at work had been a 10 on the stress scale!

I've struggled with addictions my whole life. I'm so grateful to learn how to deal with this one! 🙏
@DrAJ_LatinAmerica

What I have found in my practice is that most people struggling with an addiction / behavioral issue are actually struggling with other things and those things MUST be fixed first. Divorce, bad marriage, bad relationships, bad job, stress, kids, family, even where they live. Sometimes just moving to a warm and sunny climate and then get a new job in a different field was all they needed to rejuvenate life. Other found divorce was exactly what they needed. Obviously it is case by case but never seen anyone actually have an issue with food, food was always the secondary issue to a bigger problem in life. Just food for thought
@MarmaladeINFP
@MarmaladeINFP 2 жыл бұрын
I also struggled with addictions my whole life. Severe depression also goes back into my childhood. What I found in my experience is that diet was the only thing that was able to change this. I moved to different places and worked different jobs, even going back to college and then massage school. I also tried exercise, meditation, yoga, chi kung, body treatments, shamanism, psychotherapy, psychiatric mediations, etc. Heck, I even tried a stint in a psychiatric ward. Yet nothing, absolutely nothing, helped. That is until I tried diets that were low-carb, high-fat, nutrient-dense, and nose-to-tail. Diet was the main issue, not secondary in the slightest (except in the sense that my diet is part of a larger dysfunctional society, economic system, food system, and dietary institutions). I suspect that I wasn't only addicted to food but also prediabetic and malnourished, but none of the doctors and other healthcare workers ever thought to test me for any of this.

@@MarmaladeINFP what about a mentor? What about happy and healthy sexual relationships? Seems like you were alone and aimlessly wandering in life. During all of this was there anyone there helping you? Who would die for you or kill for you or who had your back as they say? And most importantly anyone there to kick you in the ass to move you out of the fog and into the light ?
@MarmaladeINFP
@MarmaladeINFP 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrAJ_LatinAmerica - For some reason, my comment is not posting. Maybe it's too long or something. I'll break it down into 2 parts to see if that helps. Part 1: I don't know about a mentor exactly. But I have close relationships with family and friends. My three closest friends I've known for more than two decades with one going back to childhood and another being a former girlfriend. I see and/or talk to these people on a regular basis. Specifically when I was really trying to turn my depression around, I got into a lot of social activities. I joined an active listening group, an integral group, a UU church, a martial arts club, etc. I also was dating at the time and had two decent romantic relationships. My depression probably went back to elementary school, about when my carb addiction began. But I really became troubled in 7th grade. And then became suicidal shortly after high school. The thing is I was never a loner and always had close friends and loving family. My parents were kind and helpful, and I got along with my two brothers. That is what bothered me so much when I was younger. Outwardly, my life seemed good with plenty of resources, support, and even privilege; as an upper middle class white male. There was no overt trauma in my younger life. But something was always different with me since childhood and it was hard to explain to others. Besides a learning disability, I didn't have any apparent reason to be depressed. That was the most frustrating part. I do sometimes wonder if there might've been heavy metal exposure or other toxicity in my early childhood that altered neurocognitive development and such. Still, I can't help noting that I ate a lot of sugar as a kid. Also, the low-fat craze kicked in when I was a young adult and my mother began buying low-fat food. What fat I was getting probably was mostly seed oils.
@MarmaladeINFP
@MarmaladeINFP 2 жыл бұрын
Part 2: My parents didn't understand what was going on with me. They couldn't fully empathize since neither of them were troubled as kids. Even so, they were always super helpful. For example, both were in teaching professions and constantly were assisting me with my school work. They tried to balance being supportive and being tough. As conservatives, they always made sure there were rules and structure, but they weren't overly punitive either. What amuses me is that, when younger, my parents went through a liberal phase. They raised my brothers and I in these hyper-liberal churches (Science of Mind and Unity Church). I was fully enculturated in the self-help and positive-thinking worldview. I was always looking for answers to my problems or simply trying to figure out what exactly was my problem. I got so tired of it that for an entire year I stopped reading altogether, in the hope of it helping to get me out of my head and to stop the brooding. Of the endless things I tried, some lessened the depression slightly. Running, for example, was one of the things that reliably was able to put me in a more grounded state. But nothing made the depression go away. It felt like a constant struggle to hold it at bay. Then, after decades of this, I gave up on trying to change my depression and so I accepted it as my fate. For reasons of losing weight and general health, I decided to try low-carb diets, from paleo to keto to carnivore. My depression finally disappearing was an entirely unexpected side effect. It took me a few months to realize it really had gone away permanently. That was the only change that happened. Just diet. Looking back on the prior decades, it became clear how much I had previously used carbs (and caffeine) as self-medication.

You mentioned mayo a couple times… And typically even if you buy the “olive oil” mayonnaise, it’s made with a teeny bit of olive oil and the rest is seed oil. You can make your own mayo very easily with egg and Avocado or olive oil. Add a little Dijon to spice it up and it’s better than anything you can buy off-the-shelf

Addiction management is always hard to achieve for me at 100% level. From time to time I ha been giving the permission and forgiveness of eating carbs. I felt horrible the day before however, I kept doing that from time to time. Abstinence is key for me. I hope I can totally “social distance” from carbs forever and ever. I eat red meat, chicken, liver, eggs, fish, pecans, grass fed butter, cold pressed coconut oil, cheese, heavy cream and very rarely eat vegetables. I do put coconut oil and butter in my coffee but did so because I was at my ideal weight and was easily going below that weight so had to add the oils in my coffee to stop weight loss. I now eat at least twice a day or I will fall below my ideal weight and start cramping. I've been mostly carnivore for 2 years and keto for 3 1/2. I'm very strict and do not crave sugar or carbs at all. Life is good as long as I eat enough to be healthy and it is easy to know when I don't eat enough. My problem is my brain tells my body I'm full way too soon so I force down few more bites.

I really like how the doctor uses layman's terms for FAT consumption. I love my Keto life style! It's actually simple, but a bit expensive if you try to stick with grass fed grass finished, pastor-raised animal products. But so good for you!

My 3yr old son's teachers have been complaining he doesn't want to eat at lunch time. I figured the satiety was the reason, but would worry he is not eating. Sometimes he only eats 2 meals a day. Now I fully understand why in hindsight the days when his meals are really super high fats, he just would go with nothing for sometimes up to 6 hours! And imagine he has a congenital heart disease. Praise God for this wisdom. His brain is so sharp for his age! Feed fats first!

On the opposite end trying to gain weight or not lose any, was trying to use some carbs to gain weight with this as I move in a transition to carnivore as the advice is to not go too fast, but I think this was a message I needed.

I'm just sticking with 99% carnivore. Still eat dill pickles and avocado and on rare occasions I'll eat a tomato. I'll pass on the vegetables though. Too easy to go off track for me.

Most mayo is made with cheap oil and has added sugar or corn syrup. Read the label! Also an egg has 1 gram of carbs. Milk also has carbs.

I don’t disagree, but I am maintaining and do use HWC in my coffee as my “go to” diet food. It is satiating and I can go longer without a meal. But like I said, I don’t have 100 lbs to lose, so it works for me.

Just wondering if drinking calories in the morning stops your fast… mct oil, eggs/yolks and butter all are satiating, I know, but does it stop your fast….
@learntocookketo
@learntocookketo 2 жыл бұрын
@@dubravkazirojevic47 There are different kinds of fasts. Water fasting, dry fasting, liquids only, etc. You would have to see how these different things affect your own body to know if they stop your fast. Very small amounts of fat based food doesn’t usually stop ketosis, which is the point of being on a fast. Also, these fats are satiating, so they help you go longer without a meal

Thanks you, Dr. Cywes. What about all the heap of preservatives in lard/tallow? And they are also putting a "natural" preservative in shredded cheese now. Keto people never mention this, and use these products a lot. Are these things okay?

If one is going to consume carbs, the most ideal time is after resistance training. This is bc the carbs are more readily partitioned to the muscle and not the fat cell. Carbs are activity dependent.

Vegetables are not free apart from the fact that they’re expensive as hell these days only a few of them are either keto friendly or offer an actual health benefit. Main rule is avoid starchy and or sweet vegetables and anything known to cause allergies.

Sir, 'eating as much fat as you want to' is NOT a principle of the Ketogenic diet. The ratio of fat/protein /carb is 70/25/5%, calorie level is determined by RMR and activity level.

I eat once a week at my in-laws. They are true carbovores and love cookies/cake/candy and are not receptive to my keto/carno babble. I truly regret that but accept it for what it is and merrily eat and snack along with them. The rest of the week I am ketovore. My weight is stable, BMI 22.5, so all this does not trigger any kind of carb addiction on my part. Am I the exception?

All day I’m totally fine with my electrolytes, water & coffee. I walk a lot. Due to my spine disease, that’s all the exercise I’m able to do. I do not snack or cheat!! My meals are always animal, mostly beef with butter or olive oil. I don’t get why I can’t drop my last 20lbs!! So frustrating!!! Help!!!

I am a living example of the delusional addict thinking she has reached a point of being able to have a cheat day or meal. One meal turned into 4 days off of the wagon carb eating and , due to my gluten intolerance, I spent 24hrs on significant pain when it all caught up with me😣😣 It had to be the addiction model for me. No cheats!

It's your mentality and bad speak. Nobody outside of America would refer to their food as cheat meals. Your just insulting yourself. The rest of us just have the odd potato or sweet now and then. No descriptives that refer to self hate or self berating.
