Its a banger and the more you hear the clearer Floor becomes. Its sorcery. This live is gonna be brutal. Also they are one of those bands that everyones expects perfection from, so we get “ Its all Floor, Its not enough Floor, Its Folk, Its not metal, Its too symphonic, Its not symphonic enough…..”. Folks, Its Nightwish which have become a genre on its own.

@@willhughes2904 reminds me of “Music” from the last album: “Nightwish is dead, Tuomas does not make use of Floor, its mellow, they have lost their mojo” then album comes out and goes live and everyone looses their minds. Also enjoyed when asked about it Floor goes “all tricks in the book and then some, hard to sing as hell”. This raging debate and millions of views proves their status as legends. I personally would loose interest if they kept over the years serving me different versions and iterations of “Once” and “Imaginareun” I am old enough to remember when Metallica released “Load”, it was the end too. 20 years later still out there touring and powerful as ever

Remember when Shoemaker studio version was released, many people doubted Floor could sing that live…..well they were wrong, she nailed it live! ( as reaction to your remark This live going to be brutal.) If they ever go back to live performances I’m sure Floor will shine, perhaps her voice will rise far above the choir, because I don’t see her holding back.

I'm from Finland and was a huge Nightwish fan from the late 90's to the day when Tarja left the band. Tarja leaving made me upset and I did not really like the new singer they went with. I didn't really listen to Nightwish after that for almost 20 years. About a year ago I by chance watched a reaction video with Floor singing live and god damn it I was hooked once again. Got to say that even though I loved Tarja, Floor is even better. I love Floor. Now I've been on a Nightwish bender for about a year and the more I listen to them the more I love them once again. Thanks for these reaction videos, they're always great.

Chase...i have made similar comments before, but felt the need to bring this up again. Your ability to digest the big picture and help others understand using your humble, thoughtful, and ridiculously insightful manner puts you in a really small group. It is easy to see how you have been lured in by Nightwish, because I think you are of similar cloth and talent. I grew up listening to another band that not everyone understands...RUSH. Both bands take a very cerebral approach to not just the music, but the message, and the adventure they take you on. And you almost have to submit and trust them in order to get the deepest meanings of what they are trying to say. Sorry for rambling, but thank you for all that you do.

7:42 Tuomas talked about this in his interviews and he was very clear: He never starts writing music until he knows what the song is going to be about. Upd.: Here is an excerpt from one of his interviews that I found: "- What is your creating process? - It always starts with a story, with the theme of the song. I don’t think I’ve ever done a single song just jamming with my keyboard, starting from a melody and developing through that. It’s always the other way around for me. I think: I need to write a song about long lost love, heartbreak, this book I read that’s really inspired me or any other topic. How would I bring this story alive? Is this a metal song? Does it have folk elements in it? Is it a ballad? Is it piano orientated or acoustic guitar orientated? This is really fascinating, I really love this process of trying to find the perfect approach to tell that particular story. Then I write the music, and after the music is ready I write the final lyrics. After that, I kind of polish the corners again and again for months until I reach a point in which I can’t contribute anymore to the song. That’s when I present the song to the other members of the band and we start again from scratch. Sometimes, when I present the song to the band, they’re completely happy with it and it’s almost exactly how I imagined it originally. Sometimes it changes a lot. Maybe a guitar player might say “that riff’s not really good, how about this?” and then it’s perfect. Maybe Floor changes the vocal line and it gets perfect. It’s a collaboration, that’s why we are a band."

I am not sure if I made this statement before on your channel, but as for the message or the melody comment, I might be able to give you a little insight. During Covid Tuomas did a Q&A where he discussed various things from being a level 97 wood elf in Skyrim to slightly touching on politics. One of the questions he received was advice for writing good songs. His exact (advice) response was this; “Be humble before the song, before the story you want to tell. Listen to how the song wants to be told. Be humble before for it and execute.” I follow that in everything I do in life. The best advice I’ve ever heard from someone. And it reflects in the music he creates.

The intro is a mix of “all things Nightwish” - metal, folk & symphonic & a meaningful message about us & the world we live in. These themes from Tuomas / Nightwish are long standing - in fact the lyrics from A Return to the Sea - seem to be portrayed in this video - then there is connections from The Greatest Show on Earth & more recently Endlessness, Procession, Noise, Pan & Shoemaker (visual ) & Harvest. Lots of the talent on display from our favourite talented musicians! Another great reminder WE WERE HERE!

I love the bridge part between the verse and the chorus and personally, I noticed how Floor's voice is mixed in the chorus and it's hard to make out what she's singing, but it does give it a grand choir feel and I love that. About the weird sound of Floor´s voice in the chorus, and since I read the comment of Kai Hahto about this is on purpose, IT MAKES ALL SENSE FOR ME. Think about it: during the video, the characters of the band are like ghosts in the middle of books and weird creatures. But when I realized about what the song is telling, AND NW IS ALWAYS STORYTELLING, I discovered that Floor´s voice is surrounded by "vocal ghosts" too. It´s like if all her ancestors were participating together with she. I don´t know if I´m overthinking about this... but seems a very reasonable interpretation for me since I read Kai´s comment.

Hey Chase, first to your question from the 8th minute: for Thuomas, the idea/the story always comes first, then the music writing. He mentioned that in an interview not so long ago. Also, I wanted to thank you for all your great Nightwish breakdowns and all I could learn from them. Keep going. 👍 Aaaaand...I just saw that you haven't done a reaction to "Stargazers" yet. It's an older song they hadn't been playing for a long time because of its operatic vocals. But with Floor they were able to put it back on the set list for the concert in Tampere, in my opinion the best live version of the song. Floor really shows off her operatic skills in this one and it would be really awesome to see a breakdown of the song. (; Again, thanks so much for all you've done for us and this wonderful band. Hoping to see a lot more Nightwish reactions to come. All my best wishes for the future from Germany. 😉

Some probability calculations: Step 1. Probability of boy meeting girl: one in 20,000. Step 2. Probability of same boy knocking up same girl: one in 2000. Step 3. Probability of right sperm meeting right egg: one in 400 quadrillion. Step 4. Now lets assume that you have just those 12 generations of ancestors mentioned in the intro to this song. For the probability of every one of those 12 generations of your ancestors having reproduced successfully with right sperm having met the right egg is 400 quadrillion to the 12th power. Given these 4 steps, the probability of you being born you at the present moment is 20k x 2k x 400 quadrillion to the 13th power. Going backwards in time with even more generations of your ancestors, we soon reach a probability of 1 divided by the number of atoms in the entire universe. This makes each one of us a unique miracle.

This is like being amazed by the cards that turn up on a random deal. They are what they are and once they have happened, the odds are irrelevant.

Thanks Chase. We go on this journey together always. Nightwish is so much more than popular music. It’s classical depth. I love that I live in a place where it’s appreciated at face value. No band ever ever had given me consistent goosebumps. Have a damned good day my friend.

The evolution of this band is incredible; listening to their first songs and compare them to todays songs - two worlds and at the same time always Nightwish. I love it when bands evolve like this, adapt to changes (especially of members) and follow their visions. I am sure Nightwish will never be mainstream but will remain a source of challenging music with deep meaning. I at least hope this. There is too much superficial music today, always the same blablabla and music "composed" by computers. I prefer ambitious bands with visions and the courage to go new ways and follow their own no matter if they lose fans who want them not to change but stay in a former state. I will go on following them on this way and I am curious what future will bring, with Nightwish and in general.

Been listening to this all day and watching reactions, but was waiting for this one. I cried because this exceeded my expectations. I cried because this band is nowhere near done. And I cried because it may be a few years before we hear a live version of this. Come on, Nightwish, I know you’re not touring, but put together a recorded concert, I’ll buy it.

Hey, Tuomas. You have done something special. In the 1970s I found a medium that I could really relate to - music! It was something special then. One formed ones own opinions about the bands and artists one heard. We all had our favourite genres and artists and followed them like sheep. Why? Because their music was special to us. We could not wait for the next album or single to come out, so we could wallow in the music we loved. Sadly, it was not to last. For the last twenty or thirty years, I have listened to so much crappy music produced by silly recording companies who are only interested in making a fast buck, uncaring about the artists or their fans - just get the next one out and make more cash. Now, Nightwish have come along and not only changed all that, but with this song have turned music into something different; something cerebral. People who listen to this music and find it does something for them, somehow learn to think again. Nightwish has made an old, old man feel happy again when he listens to music. No day is now complete for me if I don't listen to at least thee pieces of their music! Good reaction Chase, I feel sure you will understand what I mean. Keep up the good work man, you are doing fine!!!
