Why do adult female actresses act like little annoying girls in C dramas? I don’t usually watch C dramas because of this. This in my book is not acting but playing to stereotypes. My drama teacher from a long time ago once said, “Don’t play young and cute, just be young.” This is particularly true because teenagers always think that they are grown ups in real life!

I totally agree. The female lead is more stupid than when she was young. I liked how smart was when she left the needle and the book her mom gave her in the male lead box and she "sacrificed herself"... that's when I was thinking: the female lead will be smart and courageous.... but ohh boy, when she wanted to tell her identity to the villain, because "she was her mom disciple", even when she was told by her adoptive father not to say a word... she's so stupid that if not for her fellow eunuch, she would've been dead in the second episode... Great job.

She is 100% right. As a fan of the male lead Timmy Xu, I suffered a lot from watching the whole drama. However, if anyone feels bored and really wants to watch it, I recommend the last episode, because it's the only normal part in the whole drama. :))

This drama was so stupid that i couldn't make it through the first episode. i found myself skipping forward a lot trying to find "the good parts". when i ended up at the end of the entire episode, i realized that there wasn't anything good. I seriously think that some script writers should get sent to China's equivalent of Siberia and told to WRITE YOUR WAY OUT OF THAT. What was hard for me was they made the little girl character so intelligent, talented and selfless. I was immediately hopeful to see a story about a girl so smart. When they transition to adult, the FL was such a departure from the younger version it became beyond frustrating to watch.

Actually they try to find the cheapest labour and it's a world-wide fact that cheap salary is directly proportional to crappy products. Btw script-writers in China, especially those who are quite famous on platforms such as JJWXC, have so much status than Western authors, so even the mediocre ones charge good prices. So, you can understand that in the search of that cheap labour, production companies end up with amateur YA writers, who often write scripts for crappy manhuas.

Just love the rants and the explanations. You are a favorite of mine. I wish I viewed your content before I saw some unfortunate dramas that were confounding and a pure waste of time. Some were actually upsetting. If they were my first exposure, I would have missed some gems assuming they were more or less the same type of banality and downright thoughtless dramas. My first drama was "Oh My General" and the music, costumes, characters just caught me and made me a diehard fan to explore more. And, of course, Korean dramas came next. BTW - The Legendary Life of Queen Lau. OMG! Hysterical. Atypical. Brings a smile to my face just thinking of it. Just when I had enough of the Imperial Court, and the concubines, intrigue, etc.
