Y'all are awesome. Informative - not as many details as some more technical channels but really fun to watch and you help me get a sense for how a whole section of work will go. You're also calibrated to my skill level somewhat which is helpful haha. Honestly if someone would just throw you an entire TV show budget you two would absolutely crush. I think this is my first comment on your channel. I stumbled on to you looking at van conversion while planning ours. At first I thought you were kind of a goofy guy and remind me of one of our friends. But after watching more and learning a little more about you I think you are a smart well put together person. And Julie, well something about her is amazing. Love watching you guys and hope your new van and adventures turn out great. Maybe after our van is done (Just got it 2 weeks ago) we might run into each other on the road. Just saw the video about Archer and sorry about that. We have had many cats and dogs and it is never easy. We currently have a Aussie (Chewie) that is my best friend next to my wife and all build plans for the van include sleeping and riding spot for him. Keep the videos coming.

Hi Guys. I know this is off subject but I thought I would ask I would ask on your most recent video. Could aluminum square tubing be glued to the bare metal floor. Would be less money than 80/20. And put mass loaded vinyl in between with thinsulate on top and plywood. The vinyl for sound deadening and vapor barrier and thinsulate instead of rigid foam board. Thoughts on spacing and thickness of plywood would be great. I did watch your video from the start. You used 2x2 and painted them, sealed with a waterproofing sealer.
@dogcatmanvan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've seen a couple people go with aluminum tubing fro their floor joists. It's just a pricier option, but you don't have to worry about water proofing it. I think the vinyl and thinsulate would work fine. Are you asking about spacing between each joist? I think we tried to stay around 12" on center, but it's dependent on the size van you're working with. We went with 1/2" plywood to save on head space.

@@Miles_To_Go if batteries are low then the less efficient inverter is also out of the question, unless on electric hook up which would then charge the batteries anyway, you do have a point, I was just suggesting a lot of the equipment would be better charged not using the inverter if offgrid 🙃👍

Would you have any comparisons on rate of charge when looking at AC vs DC charging of appliances like that? Maybe I can include that in a future video. While we traveled before we had our electrical system, we had a charger for our computers that charged off the vehicles 12v, but it would always die quicker than it would charge. 90% of the stuff you listed for 120v is DC, as an electrician by trade you will use a ton more electric up by using the ac converter cords that come with the phones, laptop, camera batteries , Xbox. You can run a Xbox off a high amp cigarette lighter if you want. Charge all your equipment off a lightning usb
@OneTrackMind2 жыл бұрын
easier said than done. getting a USB-C port with high enough PD to charge those devices at a reasonable rate, or at all, is surprisingly hard, and creates a lot of heat. Until GaN chargers make their way into the DC/VanLife world, it's a bit of a tough challenge.
@dogcatmanvan2 жыл бұрын
I've messed a little bit with running them off DC, but I've found that the item drains quicker than it charges when I'm using it. Is there DC chargers out there that you could recommend with a higher output?
@ExploringJ2 жыл бұрын
@@dogcatmanvan tbh, it's a little too late for all that. You would need 8 guage wire going to a breaker from the load side of a the batteries. The batteries combined would need to equally 480v (that would charge your car battery in 15 minutes) total for DC fast charging. Minimum of 12 guage wire going to DC outlets. New USBC 20A (some now 30A) could power some devices without them dying.
