I like these better than regular push-ups even tho they are tougher to do. Opens up more locomotion possibilities and feels good on the shoulder too.

The Indian wrestling culture is filled with unique takes on traditional exercises like this one. Even this lizard push-up is basically the hindu "Hanuman dand" push-up, with a few minor differences. When it's lousy outside, I love doing these as a replacement for movement training, as they also offer a uniqie stimulus in various positions.

Tried it today. Works great! Thank you. Could you give an example for vertical pushing, and some similar exercises for pulling?

Looks like this could be part of correcting posture or muscular imbalances throughout the 'chain'

Nice. Not a lizard thing but archer pushups are a nice progression toward one arm.

I liked the video, although I have been wondering or rather playing around with the idea that maybe we should be trying to lean our body towards the weight bearing arm rather than turning our chest away from it making it all arm and putting the should in a position that is less strong. Of course its a very dynamic movement with a lot going on but I was comparing it to bilateral pressing eg with a barbell with on the decent you would bend the bar down closing the angle rather than opening it, versus spreading on the way up. thats how we make space at the hip and develop torque when we squat bilaterally. This angle of push up would be similar to doing a unilateral squat in a half moon position the whole way. I'm not saying its problem but just food for thought. I have also seen some Chinese guys on the NOAman calisthenics channel that do archer push ups in a planche position (ie feet off the ground the whole time) and they have to lean towards the pushing hand on the way down rather than looking away from it like most of us do, I feel like that tells us a lot about how the unilateral press mechanics work in isolation. I wonder what you think of that idea (you would have to have stronger obliques for sure) and what a progress or movement into that would look like if you're interested, Maybe you just consider it a different thing. Thanks for the content !

Okay... Can't even do the level 0 :) Back to regular push-ups or should I keep trying? Normally I don't move on to next progression until I can do the previous one reasonably well, not sure what to do here.
@James-xr2uz2 жыл бұрын
Level 0 is easy. You must thought he was doing 1 hand version, right? He was dropping his knee on the ground to make it easier. It's basically 1-arm but with stronger base and you can load up effectively

How do you suggest progressing from one level to the next?
@BrenTeachesMovement3 жыл бұрын
Great question Eren! Depends a lot on who's asking- but most younger athletes will be able to progress between these variations relatively easily. 2-3 sets everyday, mostly between 3-8 reps, and progressing levels when the support arm is light enough to easily allow the switch would be a great start for most people. Especially those in medical school without much free time ;)
