LBJ and Kareem being #1 and #2 all time scoring leaders will be the first thing people will think about in regards to that record. Nick is correct. Sosa never held the record. He's also correct in that 5 years from now, nobody will care about Judge's 62 HRs, except the "purists" and the Yankee fans. Bonds was a 40ish a season home run player without roids, that means the 73 is illegitimate and far beyond what he would've gotten without cheating That 'nobody cared about the clean home run record before' is not a valid logical argument, the answer to that is "they should have", not "ok so let's keep celebrating a cheater". Kinda disgusting from Nick because he usually makes valid logical arguments at least.

@@deshamallah2265 Bonds was linked to Balco and literally put on 60 lbs. of muscle in his mid to late thirties. Sosa puts on 60 lbs. of muscle in his mid to late thirties. McGwire puts on a ton of muscle and suddenly wasn't getting hurt all the time like he had been. Bonds never failed a test but he was doing it. I have been a serious power lifter for over three decades and even was competitive for a time. Men don't just put on 60 lbs. of muscle in their mid to late thirties. Steroids, PEDs and HGH not only make your slow twitch fibers react quicker but they also increase stamina and recovery time. So of course you still have to hit the baseball but steroids, PEDs and HGH help with timing, reaction speed and obviously more power. You are now on time on pitches you may have been late on before, Balls that would have been fly balls to deep outfields are now ten rows into the stands. Bonds still hit 73 HR in a season but there is no doubt he was juiced up. So it is still the record but in my opinion I am going with the man who did it clean. Just look at the stats these hitters put up between 1997 thru 2003. They were unbelievable. Luis Gonzalez even hit 57 HR one year when he hit 31 HR once and the rest of his career were in the twenties and teens. Brady Anderson hit 50 HR one season when he only hit 21 and 24 HR as his highest and usually he was hitting low teens. Bonds record will stay. I just don't recognize it as authentic. The worse thing about all of this is that Bonds was so exceptional, so amazing, and was one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game, that he didn't need to use Balco. Would he have hit 73 HR in a season and 762 HR in his career clean? No but he would have most likely still hit 600 career HR and possibly 50 HR that 2001 season.

Bonds' record is technically the make believe record though. No ones hitting 74 in our lifetime because you cant do steroids in MLB for more than like a month and get away with it. Bonds never hit more than like 46 without steroids, if Judge did steroids he would've hit like 85 home runs.

Tbh, the only reason they're making this AL/NL differentiation is because the Yankees want something to pretend they're still the best. If this were happening in idk, Anaheim or Minneapolis, nobody would care unless the player was breaking Bonds's single season record. This is regardless of the PEDs or whatever. I don't like that a steroid user has the record, but it is the actual record. Judge is having an amazing season and props to him, but it's just silly to celebrate a guy who isn't actually breaking a record. Also agreed on the fan being allowed to keep the ball and charge for it. As a fan, it's your ball. Go get paid.

Broussard thinks that over time people will forget about the controversy and just see 73 is laughable. I'm too young to have witnessed Pete rose greatness, but I heard about the bets and that's alp he has become to my generation.

The problem with this discussion is these hypocrites in the media who knew what was going on but did not care because McGuire, Sosa, and Bonds were saving Baseball. The minute that goal was accomplished and Congress got involved was the time people had their come to Jesus moment.

The last take Nick made is the only one I agree here, and I agree completely. But It is the record. You can’t stand outside of the box and hit just like you can’t ingest PEDs. Nick not acknowledging that is a sign he’s just working for the man; F-O-X. . Love the show, but that’s my take.

Wow Nick, you missed this one completely. The argument about there being no trending Maris topics the last decade. Weird... Almost like the record was "broken" before we really had social media and a way to see what was trending. I can say that at the time and for years after people have said Maris was the authentic record holder. The fact they didn't harp on it for the next 20 years just means other stuff happened. Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda, but outside of this comment, nothing in my social media history would tell you I had any feelings on Dr. Pepper.

Bonds second highest total was 49... the year before the 73. He had more 40 homerun seasons in the last third of his career when most guys numbers tail off. Coincidentally, this was all in the early 2000s. He can have the 'King' moniker on paper but those who follow the game do know that his single season record and totals record ARE tainted. The writer's clearly demonstrate that with his absence in the Hall. Just go look at how many 40 homerun seasons he had before 2000... 3!... 46, 42 and 40! This was in his prime when he was already considered a HOFer. then 2000 - 2004... 49, 73, 46, 45, and 45. Unless you are a BB fanboy, the numbers clearly show he was a cheat. For some, this doesn't matter but go ask Judge... or the next guy that hits 63 or more. MLB should remove his McGuire and Sosa's numbers.

Barry bonds and Griffey Jr are the best baseball players I've ever seen. And if you take away the steroid years bonds is still a first ballot Hof. That being said, we're they not allowed to say the word steroids on the show? That's a pretty big part of the story. And it's easy to say you'd rather be bonds, but would you be willing to do what bonds did? Have your head grow twice, three time it's size?

People forget Bonds was walked for a record 177 times in 2001. Let that sink in. Dude was a beast. Even if he was on so called "steroids" so many athletes during this time were also. Why did they not hit like Bonds? give credit where its due, Bonds is the home run king of baseball. until someone hits 74, bonds will forever be the all time leader.
