NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Put me out of my misery - who took the best Natsuki postcard? Seriously, Ikeshima is one of the most incredible locations I've ever visited and I hope to revisit soon for another video. BUT sadly, we've got one last episode of Journey Across Japan: The Lost Islands left in the series, so savour this one folks. Though as you can see in the "next up" segment at the end, the finale will certainly be a big one. (ALSO bit of trivia, 06:49 is my favourite shot in the entire series).

Joey: "I don't know what to say. It looks like a post-apocalyptic town, like something happened and it's just stuck in time." Chris: "That's a 4-5 story building that's completely been consumed by this forest. I've never seen anything quite like that." Natsuki: "Ecology."

Joey could've won an actual award if he'd gotten Natsuki to sit in that roached out chair, hunched over with a cigarette between his fingers, exhaling smoke while he stared at the flower in his other hand and considered it sagely, with the mounds of trash behind him and the sea beyond. @@flp322 if you think about there's often chinese or japanese quarters/districts in western cities as well, however i've only seen japanese people live in huis ten bosch so it is a weird concept haha i think it is also mostly rich families living there as the houses are quite different from traditional japanese houses and ig some people view it as a bit of a luxury, but the park is really pretty, and also other parts of Sasebo (the city where it is) are also really pretty so if you ever go to Japan I think they're worth checking out!

In Nagasaki Prefecture, where this theme park is located, there used to be a special place set aside for trading with foreign countries. In particular, trade with the Netherlands was very active, which is why a theme park called Holland Village was built about 40 years ago. The theme park was so well received that they decided to build a bigger one near it. And this theme park was created.

Yeah, for the 270 years of Edo when Japan closed its ports (to foreigners at least, domestic trade was flourishing), only Dejima Port in now Nagasaki prefecture remained open for trade with the Dutch. And now Dejima Island is a popular spot for weekend night hangouts. Cool stuff.

You guys complaining about the flatness of the Netherlands have obviously never been to Zuid Limburg. The highest part of mainland Netherlands is the Vaalserberg at 322.4 metres. The Vaalserberg was replaced by Mount Scenery, Saba as the highest point in the Netherlands in 2010, after the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles and incorporation of Saba into the Netherlands on 10 October that year. However, Huis ten Bosch looks like a remarkable copy of aspects of Dutch culture and life. Well done Japan.
