Accurate and repeatable wooden wheel tire tread jig for wood models or toys. Plans available.

This is my new wooden wheel tire tread jig. With this jig I can create whatever pattern or tread design that I want for my wood models. This jig can handle wheels from 1-1/4" (30mm) to 8" (200mm) in diameter, and slant tread grooves from 0 to 90 degrees in either direction. Although designed for use with my Jim Byrnes tables saw (byrnesmodelmachines.com) the baseplate can be easily modified to fit other saws.

I want the plans for the other model, I bought the book thinking it was the other model, now I see that some part are unobtainable for this model…..so I’m out 25 buck and can’t make the jig, the other one was simpler.

Hi. I'm about to start getting parts for the metric version, however seems to be an issue with stated sprocket on large sprocket axle and sprocket on rotation wheel axle. The added radius of both, is larger that center distance between the two axles, as far as I can see, meaning the sprockets will overlap. Alternatively I can source 0,250 pitch sprockets, however the smallest available sprocket found is with 20 teeth, and again this will make the added radius larger than center distance between the two axles. Guess the axle of the rotation wheel will have to be moved a bit away from the the large sprocket axle. Have any done the metric version, and can comment on this?

Hi, I'm starting on this build as a warm-up for the dump truck, and I've run into the sprocket source problem. I have the tools to make my own wooden sprocket, do you think the stresses on the jig would work ok with a plywood sprocket? Sourcing delrin stock would be plan B. Thanks!

I am looking for an alternate source for the sprockets also. Plastockonline.com carries the smaller sprockets, although they come with a hub bump as part of the sprocket. Mrosupply.com carries the .25 pitch 72 tooth, but it is much more expensive, so I can't recommend them.... Vexrobotics carries the 72 tooth sprocket in aluminum, which in retrospect, if I had found them earlier I would probably have used it over the acetal sprocket, although you will have to make a hub bushing because the bore is about 1.125 inches. I am hoping that Servocity will stock them again, since .25 pitch is a common chain size.
