The reason for 'obligatory training for anti-harassment etc' is because once it is in place, management can say that they have done their part and can throw the book at accused employees for basicaly breach of contract. It has nothing to do with actually preventing anything.

Collective punishment is illegal according to the geneva convention. That includes forcing you to be reeducated as though you're a computer that is programmed to rape until you watch the video and you'll be deactivated. It clearly doesn't do anything because everyone, literally 100% of people, would correctly indicate on a test that sexual harassment is wrong. Its just insulting, degrading and hasn't been proven to do anything.

The biggest problem I have with this whole thing is that they are trying to use drinking as an excuse. It's not an excuse, it's just not. If you're drunk, high, over-caffeinated, or otherwise you're not allowed to do anything you wouldn't sober. People really need to look at this from the angle of the people are just bad people, ON TOP of possibly being alcoholics as well. The responsibility of each individual really needs to be addressed and brought to light as well. Otherwise they are likely to just move to the next company and repeat said behavior.

I agree Blizzard sucks in everyway. To clarify on sexual harassment training some more; In most fields with multiple employees, it is mandatory training among everyone. You don't go to sexual harassment training after harassing someone, you get fired. Sexual harassment training is a preventative measure that's meant to hold you accountable. If people walked into interviews saying things like they hate women, etc., they would not be hired. If you are a hiring manager and get a "bad vibe" from someone, you don't hire them. These people don't have to be loud, incel, assholes to be capable of sexual harassment, therefore you can't always spot them. Sexual harassment training is meant to be a warning that we do not put up with this type of behavior in our workplace. Some people get super comfortable at work and begin making inappropriate comments and jokes, while others might not feel the same. Some people are psychopaths that are capable of hiding their true selves extremely well. Sexual harassment training is a yearly reminder that how you effect other people in the workplace matters, especially when it comes to sexual harassment, and you will be held accountable. Sounds like Blizzard is having serious issues with upper management neglecting their job of keeping the house clean and promoting frat buy culture which should have no merit in any workplace. Thanks for coming to my TED talk
@jobansand2 жыл бұрын
That was actually pretty useful information!
@toms.a.savage72322 жыл бұрын
I get the reason why sexual harassment training is implemented and its importance on maintaining a healthy work environment. But the training is so laughably awful that no one takes it seriously; it's just a yearly chore we all have to do. Plus, the training means nothing if there is a case of sexual harassment and nothing is done about it since the higher ups either don't care or actively promote this sickening behavior. Not all companies do it, but it's still a problem. Hopefully those that do start to be held accountable like Activision Blizzard.
@marcelege58902 жыл бұрын
As a European this whole Training thing feels damn weird to me tbh. It sounds like companies don't even do it to prevent sexual harrasment but just to be able to act like they've done everything they could have to prevent it whenever it happens.

@bakarius3833 жыл бұрын
@@tehkill3r download times? yes. loading times? no. infact, the loading times would be severely affected in a negative way if they compressed the game files. Same happens in blender when you compress .blend saves, or compress files into a rar file. You can take something large and make it smaller, but if the idea is making faster load and download times, just don't pack a bunch of shit in it. If the idea is to make it take less space and download faster, compress it. It needs uncompressed if you want uncompromised quality which leads to longer loading times. Uncompressed, and then loaded. So basically loaded twice every time you open the game. (not arguing just saying compression doesn't fix everything, it has its own issues. So saying they should just do this because 0 drawbacks, is incorrect and I'd personally rather wait 3x as long downloading, than wait 2x longer every single time I start a game) If it takes 2 minutes to load into a game uncompressed, and it takes 2 hours longer to download the game uncompressed. I'd rather spend 2 hours than have it constantly build up 4 minutes of time every time it's opened. Pick your battles kind of thing. Think about it, there are 120 minutes in 2 hours, which means opening the game in this example 30 times. Everything after this you're just losing time

Maybe I'm just too cynical and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that the people who sexually harass others are unaware that what they are doing is wrong. In most cases, I think they know but they just clearly don't care. In reality, the sexual harassment training is not actually aimed at educating them, it's just meant to protect the company from any liability in cases of sexual harassment, so the only guilty party is the employee. That's why they make everyone sign a contract at the end of the training which attests that they understood everything that was taught. If the training was truly about learning, they'd give them a test they have to pass instead of a dumb piece of paper written by the company's lawyers to sign.

@Exiest(ex)Osas Saso Not that false accusations isn’t an issue (I think people who destroy other people’s reputation should get the same sentence the accused would have gotten if he’d been guilty) but when you focus on complaining about that when discussing sexual harassment... it’s a bit like complaining about losing your cell phone in the middle of a house fire. Sure, losing your cell phone sucks but there are more pressing issues to resolve first. And focusing on putting out the fire does not mean we won’t try to find your cell phone afterwards. Right now, people are just focusing on trying to stop people from acting like actual neanderthals because in terms of proportions, it is the larger problem.
@CosmicTeapot2 жыл бұрын
@UCJO_a0XfHG5Z5kWdIUXMEzg Believe me, I’m tired of this too. And not only because it’s unfair to those falsely accused but also because it discredits people who are actual victims. Imagine you were raped by your boss and when you tried to speak out, people told you you were just lying for money/attention because of the behaviour of devious opportunistic shitstains. You just gotta keep in your mind that in the grand scale of things, the number of real victims of rape/sexual harassment still far outweighs the number of victims of false accusations and you don’t want to intimidate them into keeping quiet. Most importantly, I think society as a whole needs to quit it with its extremist black and white stances on every issue. Every topic is polarized nowadays between two fronts just sticking labels and buzzwords to those who hold opposing views and it’s just childish/immature. It doesn’t has to be this way... god forbid people actually hold a constructive open-minded conversation focused on fixing issues for once... but yeah, I’ve long lost hope that people will start acting like balanced/rational individuals. We’re pretty much doomed as a species.

It’s especially apparent with the trauma and abuse survivors in WoW. They portray them as crazy and evil for wanting justice against the people who wronged them, but write the abusers who gaslight them as heroic and the ‘real heroes’. Then at the end of the day, the victims either die, get imprisoned and tortured, or are pacified into not wanting justice. They basically say ‘hey, trauma surviving women? We hate you and want you to suffer.’

As a woman who once dreamed of working for a game company I’m glad that I stuck to just playing the games rather than producing them. This situation makes me sick. It’s not just Activision and Blizzard, it’s the fact we’ve seen this exposed in many companies before that just leads me to think that this won’t be the last time we see a company doing this unethical shit. I can’t put into words how much it hurts me to see the gaming community be so gender divided. Plenty people are nice when playing games but from experience I admit I’d had my fair share of abuse from the opposite gender whilst I’ve played a game. It’s disheartening that for some reason games are seen by some as an ‘exclusive to men’ activity, or that because I’m a woman I’m immediately bad at the game or I don’t belong because I’m not playing the Sims or Animal Crossing (the typical ‘girl’ games listed). Now to hear once again that not only does the abuse happen as a player but to the very people that help make the game (and the abuse is to an even greater degree with real threats of rape), it sickens me. I truly don’t see a day where women will feel like they belong in the gaming crowd which is the most disheartening statement I’ve ever admitted. Sorry for the rant if anyone reads this. I’m just very passionate about gaming, it’s been a long term escapism from some traumatising experiences so I care very deeply about the direction of the gaming community and my place within it.
@bitteralmonds57172 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of assholes out there but you don't have to give up on producing games because of this news. Find your people, learn how to code, and start up your own company if no where else seems to match your ideals. There are plenty of good men and women out there who will help you do this. I know it's disheartening to read news like this but the fact is at the same time, the state of California itself is taking action. The law is on the right side when it comes to this, it's just ideally we'd get to a point where nothing this awful happens in the first place. For what it's worth, I found good friends who absolutely made me feel like women belong in gaming and I hope one day you can too.

@@bitteralmonds5717 I didn’t give up my dream of game developing due to news like this, I just found a new passion and decided my hobby of enjoying gaming should stay as just that, a hobby. My ranting above is just simply myself being thankful that I didn’t get wrapped up within that as I dodged a bullet it seems. Super glad to hear that the state is taking action to preventing this as it gives hope to those who do actually pursue this career path. These days I mostly stick to single player games, but whilst I find it’s partially due to the constant harassment I received for simply being a women in online games, I also just mostly enjoy single player games for their stories. I find myself escaping easily into well written stories and as a very emotive person they make me feel ways that no movie or book could ever do, one of the main draws for why I believe games are just phenomenal as an art form. So it’s not all doom and gloom, I do enjoy what I’ve found in single player games even if the push towards them was because of the harassment. As you said though, the people you play with make all the difference, I have friends (both genders) who I play games like online versions of dungeons and dragons with but I guess you wouldn’t call that an online video game. Most of the proper online games I would play would be with strangers so it makes sense that I had not so great of a time compared with if I played with friends. Maybe I’ll find my people one day, maybe I won’t, for now I’m satisfied with my single players and a few online games here and there. Not every online experience has been bad of course. Honestly I’m just happy that the topic of women belonging in gaming is being brought forwards again as it really has been a huge escapism within my life that somewhat got destroyed by a few people that can’t grasp the fact that games aren’t exclusive to just them. To anyone who may read this just realise that women enjoy games as much as you, our gender doesn’t define whether we find them instantly boring, we can be a pro player or we can suck as much as some men do too, don’t destroy our passions and just treat us like you would one of the guys, we don’t need sexual harassment or any kind of harassment whilst we’re trying to no-scope you. Many thanks if you actually spent time to read this.
@lazra43212 жыл бұрын
@@ZNemerald My comment above should hopefully clarify that I no longer intend to be in the industry because of new passions and not because of the claims of the field being awful. If you want to give it a read then go ahead, it’s mostly just more context to how I feel about games. If you don’t read it then hopefully the first sentence to this will provide you with the context of why I wouldn’t start a gaming company. Although I would love to see how a female run game company turns out (with some male employees obviously because I am against gender exclusivity). I’m sure the gender prejudices within the development team would be better handed and tackled than they are at Blizzard or Activision if the top dog understood the struggles women have to find their place in the community. Thanks for reading.

@Exiest(ex)Osas Saso dude chill. I support equality for both genders and am against gender exclusivity, literally said that in a prior comment. If you’re suggesting the claims made at Activision and Blizzard are false then I think you need to re-evaluate the fact that maybe some people tell the truth since we’ve seen this stuff happen before in companies (backed up by proof). I’m just saying that obviously women’s place in gaming is unsteady when you compare it to men in games (excluding your typical ‘women’ games like sims - once again that game shouldn’t be gendered either, anyone can enjoy it). Thought that was common knowledge so just chill. We can all agree that gaming should be a place for all, nobody should put up with harassment directly because of their gender, race, sexual orientation or whatever. Simple.

The trainings aren't because they are trying to course correct bad behaviors...it's meant to absolve the company of any liability for those behaviors.
@stefanyuwono19092 жыл бұрын
Upper Echelon Gamer discussed how Activision Blizzard seems to be trying to end this "company problem". They hired a law firm (WilmerHale), known to "minimize the likelihood of claims and potential liability", to review their company policy. Sounds like an Anti-Union Trust Busting firm. Not gonna be surprised if this issue gets co-opted by "social justice movement", separating all the employees affected into tiers of grievances. And then the ones at the bottom of the tiers left, since now they're getting abused by the company and the top of the grievance tier. Each layer slowly dissolve from the bottom, since the tier above the bottom tier becomes the new bottom, each time the bottom disappears. Classic divide and conquer. The walkout has already been taken over by the SJWs. Just like during the demonstration following the 2008 financial crisis. Introduce a dividing element (like which group is more or less affected, therefore creating tiers), into a uniting issue (financial crisis affecting the 90%) that affects people of all variety. Not gonna be surprised if no meaningful changes happen, since the dividing issue is still quite popular and easy to use right now.

The only problem with Charlie's take on anti-sexual harassment screening is that there are probably a lot of people out there who know how to seem respectful and decent on the outside in an interview, all the while concealing their true degenerate nature. Therefore, companies probably find it a safe option to just give everyone the training as standard practice... But on the other hand, there are also probably lots of pervs that laugh at the anti-harassment stuff they are fed, check the boxes they know they are supposed to, and just go on to harass women anyway, so there is that too.

It is this type of irresponsible behavior from unaccountable State bureaucrats that are driving many of the State’s best businesses out of California." -Activision-Blizzard spokesperson Dude. Aside from literal crimes, blizzard/Activision have no sense of community and have no plan for real longevity in their games. On the esports side, they kill games intentionally for the next one. Starcraft was murdered, hots was murdered, and overwatch was murdered. On the casual side, wow only has bursts of activity for like weeks after an expansion. Diablo mobile was something nobody asked for. The call of duty games have been ass up until recently and still theyre mediocre, and they still release every year (same formula). The company just rinse repeats with killing dedicated players and their passions for a quick buck. This is opposed to games like eso or counterstrike which are built to last. Eso with constant events and great content and community outreach. Counterstrike with tournaments and hype and competitiveness (blizzard intentionally shut down tournament orgs for years with their licensing idea. In reality it was to make room for overwatch league, but then they decided to kill that too with a quick cash to youtube). Please don't give this company money anymore.

As a whole? No. The majority of the most innovative, fun and even thought provoking games have been independently developed games by people who have focus and passion in their vision, the stagnant AAA industry giants and premium currency mobile goblins are the problem, we need to the democratize by giving more focus and attention to the indie gaming space. What AAA giants do is stay stagnant on their ass till they see the revenue drip and only do ANYTHING after the fact, seriously how the fuck can you release such a game like the Avengers in 2020 when the gameplay is less complex has less depth than something from 20 years ago, plus you have to pay big bucks just to have miniscule amounts of additional content. Fuck man I can buy ULTRAKILL (release 2020 the highest rated game of all time highly recommend) for the price of a bunch of lootboxes that contain retextured shit some student intern made for free.
