Y’all are so dope!!! i really appreciate the positive words... I’m turning 43 and this is my very first injury... When you are that active, it can happen... Thankfully there’s good doctors to help me get back to 100%.... I’m down but definitely not out!!! And I will be fighting again as soon as I’m recovered... My recovery will give me the opportunity to study more, meditate more and hopefully finish the book I’m writing.... Anyway, I want y’all to take advantage of my birthday sale!!!! The code is: MFBDAY but you should be able to check out without entering It and it still applies!!!! I can’t wait to fly someone out here and put through a workout 😈. Ambrosia.mikerashid.com

I hope now you understand what I was talking about. Your type of resistance training doesn't benefit boxing. That hook comes from the hip but when your biceps are over activated, they trigger unnecessarily at the beginning or ending of the punch. You can actually see it happening in the video footage you provided. Anyone with a boxers eye can see the pedigree, but the added muscular response (and size of the muscle group) prevents the absolute proper technique. Thus, the constant triggering somewhere in the mist of the punch compounds the tension and pressure on the legiment. You're experience is absolutely the same as I (and others I know who lift weights) experienced. First, it burns or aches like a overworked muscle or mild strain. But then, you continue and deal with the pain until one day it pops. No one wants to see anyone who's chasing their dream fail, but just like I initially said you gotta lay off the weights. That natural and learned pedigree will come out with repetition; and a no-nonsense coach that won't let you side on technique. That hook you got is real snappy. If you focus more on that hip rotation, you'll hurt and KO guys in the gym without trying to. After you've healed - we used to do 6 to 9 rounds of hooks & hooks combos on the heaviest heavy bag just to erase old habits and install the proper technique. Heal up champ!
@coachabdullah2960
@coachabdullah2960 4 жыл бұрын
@Bamboo Training A boxer's punch with correct technique doesn't require "a lot" of bicep. Meaning, the bicep is not a primary mover in the action. Whether the punch is a straight, hook, or uppercut the bicep is not a primary mover. In fact, in a straight punch, the bicep is stretched. Thus, if you have your bicep triggering, it would take away from the velocity (and accuracy) of the punch. Turning the hips and feet in the right position at the right time creates a whip like effect. You can test this on a bag: thud sound vs. a cracking sound. You're right about shoulder injuries, because the shoulder (in general) is a stablizer and absorbs the impact of the punch and the supporting muscle front and rear are triggered in creating the punch. But if you have very muscular shoulders two things happen: straight punches are more difficult to achieve and repeat. Hooks maybe easier & more powerful but getting the snap on the hook is more difficult (for some) and getting the fist in line with the elbow which will fully transfer the power from your leg and hips. You'll see muscular guys relying on hooks because it feels more natural, but those guys also lack in defense due to their muscles fatiguing faster from overuse. The irony is that I said this in a comment on Mike's video post. He responded defending his weight training, but I've seen it too often. Bicep tear from lifting weights like a bodybuilder vs. an athlete. Biceps tears can happen to any boxer, but it happens too often with guys who lift too much and don't lift in a way that would benefit a boxer.
@coachabdullah2960
@coachabdullah2960 4 жыл бұрын
@Bamboo Training The key thing you said is that you're not a boxer. That's something that you have to take in consideration. If you don't go and learn from a 'teacher' (not a coach)...you need someone who will teach you how to box...some of things I'm saying just won't make sense to you. Weight training isn't bad, but bodybuilding is bad especially when you add "the special vitamins" that obviously Mike is or has taken at some time. Bicep muscle triggering - it depends on the punch as I said before. True, stretching and warming up is essential for any sport especially boxing. I totally understand you what you mean about the attitude. What can I say? It's the internet bro - everything ain't what it seems and I could go on and on about that. Most of these guys are Divas; extremely sensitive; and they are simply clout chasers - willing to sacrifice their health and put up a fake persona to be famous. A simple question about steroids and their panties will get in a bunch. But! They are still hard workers :-)

As a weight lifter myself I tore my pec boxing in the exact same fashion. At first I felt a pinch then I kept boxing and then about a minute later I felt the tear. So my advice to any weight lifters who box is to stop after the initial pain and DON'T keep fighting. Praying you have a speedy recovery Mike 🙏

Mike, I really feel for ya. I did a full thickness tear of left biceps doing preacher curls early morning (w/o proper warm up -duh!) about 15 years ago (in my 40's). You are so spot on with what you said about bicep tendon tears! I'm a long time weight lifting nut, going back to my teens. My ortho surgeon was awesome here in Daytona Beach. He reattached tendon, cleaned out rotator cuff and sent me on my way. It took SOOOOOO long to rehab (a year or so), but in the end, my left side was even stronger than my right. My BIG mistake was that I depended on my left side being stronger and after about a year and a half back on the bench, I wore out my right rotator cuff. Another rotator surgery and now good - I'm 58 and I really think I'm stronger than ever! You can overcome this! Do it right! Thank you Sir for your videos! PS. You got me hooked a few years ago when you did that damn baked super salad vid (Kale-Broc-Asperagus)! haha

BTW, mine was a long head bicep rupture (top end) and yours is at the lower end of biceps, but please have them reattach if possible. Only weird thing is it will make that bicep more prominent (look bigger) since it is shortened in that type surgery. And again I started cheating to one side on bench - bad idea I know! I Love/Admire your attitude about the entire thing!... Stay Strong!!!

Tore mine in May of 2018. Surgery was pretty good, i was in a ROM brace for 2 months. Went from 260 down to 230 between May and September. Im back to 255 now. Training is good, but my right arm ( injured arm) is probably about 10-15% weaker then my left ( which is opposite of what they were before the injury. I also have a little more space between the bicep and my elbow, but not much, mine is now gonna be a little higher up then my left. But overall recovery was good. You're an elite level athlete, you'll bounce back quick! Good luck! Not sure if you're set on a surgeon , but Dr. Komen in Maryland is great. Former team Dr. For the Orioles. Great guy and did a great job.

I think it would be a great idea for you to post the rehabilitation process towards getting you back in the ring; fusing both worlds of rehab and fitness - allowing the public to see the stages of recovery from an injury, in order for us to take the proper steps if ever we encounter the same challenge in our fitness endeavors. Wish you the best!
