I've kept maggots up to 4 week by suffocating them. Squeeze all the air out, pop em in the freezer for 20 mins, and then put them in the bottom of the fridge. I was surprised how well they kept

Il always give them a watch and if I don't like the way they come across il be on to the next one. Watching only 1 person as good as Adam is ... surely that's gotta be boring

I fish on a wild lake, a very challenging lake, it acts like a drug on you:)), huge in surface area, lake with many structures, a lot of shells that cut your fishing lines, crystal clear water, low density of carp, very difficult lake of fishing where the carp migrate from one place to another, a lake with a lot of raptor fish, I am still waiting to see carp fishing documentaries on wild lakes, thank you Mr. Pennings for the explanations

Took inspiration from this and after a couple of winter blanks I caught, only one fish from a day session but a result. I went with a size 10 of my favourite hook pattern along with a 4" 12lb braided hook link and small pva sticks filled with the above ingredients. I think the advice of scaling down is probably what I needed to do as i think i had become complacent and slightly lazy. Just a tip that I found worked as this was the rig I caught on is once the loop of the hair is pulled through the bait and a bait stop added you can thread a short length of mono, I used mouth trap , through the loop. If you cut this to a point you can thread on maggots on either end and then heat blob the ends to stop the maggots from coming off, might not be the best tip but it means on the wrong rig it's an option for a quick set up. Just be aware that the more maggots added means the longer the mono needs to be, this could work for or against as it would become difficult to eject but also possibly difficult to suck in? Anyway I added 2 on either side which keeps the mono short and no bigger than the 10mm hook bait I used. Hope this helps

We used to use a lot of maggots in the 80s in the start of the 80s we used up scaled match tactics for big carp caught loads.Started using zigs in 81 when they were obviously not called zigs my mates thought I was nuts because no one used them now seems everyone does and with maggots bagged up.

Re: the depth charge thing. Something very similar but easier. Just fix a swivel to the end of the leadcore, then thread an inline lead down the leadcore so the ring sticks out the end. Hey presto... tie a stocking to the end or whatever. They even make a clip for the purpose. Rob Maylin wrote about this a long way back..... Edit: The Mag Aligner Rob called it, but not the rig the way he attached the bag to the lead.

Not convinced carp like alcohol, I think it is more that the flavours carried in alcohol disperse better in cold water. Hence EA flavours have always been associated with winter fishing since the late 70’s.

the lazer pen thing is definitely something im going to have to try, ive got a mate who has a particular beef with geese and he shoots them with an airsoft gun because his catapult with pellets in 'didnt have enough power' a tad cruel but i'd be lying if i said it didnt make me laugh watching him posted up like Rambo in his camo gear guarding his swim with a plastic pistol. never done it myself but ill be ordering a lazer for sure

Adam, as an ex handler but foremost an Ethologist /behaviourist. The reason birds in this instance know where the food is, is because of learnt behaviours. They have learnt from the consequences of their behaviour that after you put bait into the water,{noise visual}, there is food / resources present. They, the birds cannot smell the food under the water.
