The problem is that he can't give her the attention she needs because it has to come from other men and it has to feel forbidden. She likes to feel desired and excited because she gets validation from external sources and not from internally. Shes a sociopath narcissist or has borderline personality disorder who places her desires over her own husband, her kids, a psych patient, her job. Look at her talking all nonchalantly and sweet as if shes being honest and open. Shes a raging sociopath. The other problem is that emailing and flirting and having lunch may be innocent, but doing those things brings someone closer to doing things that are inappropriate. We covet what we see every day, and she's a predator of sorts. Sadly, there's nothing her husband can do. She is the problem. No matter who she's with, they won't be enough. Shes using her husband, and every other dude she messes around with to feed her ego.

So he is trying to hold this marriage all together by himself because he really wants it to work -- it has been his dream to have a fulfilling marriage. But she is afraid of intimacy as Dr. Phil says. It is impossible for her to accept love from a man who wants a deep bond. Instead, she seeks risky behavior because it does not require of her any in-depth long-term intimacy except possible quickies here and there with lots of exciting eye-contact and finally talking to a guy she has had her eye on for weeks. Very much like middle schoolers -- riding the surface of relationships with no commitment, no lasting requirements. Both need therapy -- he to deal with the PTSD he has from his horrible childhood with sicko parents and she to find out why she is so afraid of intimacy and marital commitment. I hope he divorced her to save himself, and got custody of the kids. No kid needs a mother who can't keep her hands off the town's men.

Isn't that the exact same thing that MANY men do when they go out to bars to pick up women and they pick up women at their jobs and they walk into a room and scan the room for the woman they will play that "flirty" game that so many womanizers do? I had that kind of a husband years ago and he is in his 70s now and is STILL doing it! And there are LOTS of men just like that!

Many, many women would be thrilled with this guy and his efforts, minus the spying aspects but I fully understand why he has felt the need to over monitor her. What he said in this program was good. She does not appreciate him but if another woman went after hi, bet she would be interested. May have to divorce, unfortunately due to her behaviours, especially with that psych patient. Unbelievable; that would have been it for sure, if not his best friend. That guy was a great friend to him-total respect!
