i think the second story is a retelling of sir carton de wiart, he was shot through the eye, bit off his own fingers after being blown up. fought in both world wars, and in his memoir he stated, "frankly i enjoyd the war"

As soon as they mentioned the human in the second story biting off his fingers since he wanted them amputated, and then returning to combat, I knew exactly who they were talking about The unkillable soldier, who served from the second boer war, through both world wars, and on to the China mission Adrian carton de wiart Dude is a bonafide badass and was one of my favorite stories to learn about, the way he died was a tad bit dissapointing though and I bet he was pissed off in the afterlife about it, he fell down a flight of stairs Edit: I was wrong, he survived falling down the stairs and apparently died peacefully a while later of old age rather than any injuries

That may well be the intent, and I would retract Major and say it is clearly mostly Wiart. However, the enlistment bit at the front does not match Wiart while the high profile famous war hero type it does match was Murphy. Wiart falsified his identity, but being 20 anyway it was not to get in despite his age with the knowledge of the recruiters who were choosing to look the other way about it.

Honestly, I kinda want to see a scenario where a human insults a prince for being unworthy of the throne, whereupon the prince broods over those words even as he ascends the throne, those words echoing through his head as they drive him to be the best king to ever live. Thanks for the laughs!🤣 Just finished story one, and I'm still sitting here chuckling.🤣 I saved it in my humor folder. And yes, even if the main engine or gravity drive should be disabled, it is likely that a space ship will also have lower powered maneuvering thrusters located in a number of places about the ship. This is actually a very realistic way of dealing with unwelcome visitors once the engine has been disabled because the maneuvering thrusters won't be affected by that. And a trained crew should be able to handle the effects long enough to deal with the unwanted guests.😁 Time to listen to the next story.😃👾🛸🚀

Lateral is the wrong word that would be your role drasters in the same direction. Too I already understood the disconnect when they disable the artificial gravity so spin gravity would just cause currents in the air and wouldn't make anything drop to the ground. Granted the suspension of disbelief is a prerequisite for scifi. I still shake my head when aliens are described as "an aquatic race." It's a bit difficult to keep forges lit under water. Easily explained you say, they left the water for land. Well, so did we and the first thing we did was evolve. A squid/jellyfish wouldn't last long on land and certainly not become an apex predator, let alone the dominant sentient species on their planet.

This is a long shot but figured I'd try after listening to a number of these videos and seeing how amazing the community is I thought maybe just maybe someone else out there might know the answer to my question. It's been years now since I first ran across stories like these and I can still remember the first and still my favorite one but cant seem to remember the name or find it again on youtube. It was a collection of short stories and I'll do my best to do them justice and add what I remember but it's been years. The first story was of a planet inhabited by a race of pacifists alien who were so ingrained with this belief they refused to even defend themselves, humans took up a moon or a planet in orbit I dont remember why but eventually another alien race invaded and destroyed the outpost and was going to move on to the peaceful planet when the few remaining survivors launched more missiles from the moon, the moon was all but destroyed again before the aliens turned their attention back to the planet only to have more missiles come shooting out of the planet. The humans fought to the very last man and just as the last man lay there waiting for death the humans fleet arrived. As it turns out the aliens in there frustration had used all there heavy ammunition trying to wipe out the base and had to turn and run. The human fleet chased them eventually catching and destroying them. Second story was a little shorter but by far my favorite of the two. A ship was attacked and boarded by aliens, while everyone was running a single human stood in the hall protecting another as he took out his guitar and with rock and roll killed the invaders who turned out to be made of geodes. This story reminds me of the sence in strangers things a bit and would love to find the original. Like I said I know it's a long shot but if you have any ideas or these sound like stories you might like to find hit the thumbs up button so more people will see it and maybe we can find them again together.

I knew where this was going from the end of the paragraph ending with begin, though I thought that the boarders would be crushed to death rather than just immobilized. they are used to between 0 and around .3g going by the low grav description. They are then subject to 6 or 7 x what they are meant for, as an aside, humans can only withstand 9gs for a few seconds and 6 gs can be fatal if prolonged. The boarders probably should have been dead before the humans could even disarm them. As he equivalent gravity multiplier (6gs) would kill humans in about 2 minutes.
