Ive heard it’s better to cut the tail when bleeding because the blood drains straight down. Is there any truth to that or is it basically the same thing?
@MooMooOutdoors
@MooMooOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
I think cutting the gill is better because it's like cutting a carotid artery, blood pumps out faster since it's closer to the heart. We do cut the tail on top of cutting the gills on longer/bigger fish like a sturgeon to bleed them better.

Hey man. I’m thinking about taking my lifetime tamarak to the roll wall this upcoming season. Do you have to worry about sharks?
@MooMooOutdoors
@MooMooOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Don't take this the wrong way. I'm just looking out for your safety. Shark is the least of your concern. The wind, wind chop (wave) and the current is what you have to look out for. Lifetime Tamarack is pretty slow kayak. I have many friends (who were on not very efficient kayaks) that have struggled to get back to the launch when the wind and the current was against them. Therefore, I do not recommend Lifetime Tamarack in the bay unless you are very experienced paddler. Yes of course, on a low current/wind day you are totally fine but the condition can change very quick. So, If you do go out, I recommend staying closer to the launch. To answer your original question, I never heard of any shark incidents in the bay but they are there.
@nathannelson5026
@nathannelson5026 3 жыл бұрын
@@MooMooOutdoors thank you for the input man. I know it could be pretty rough so I would probably only go out on calm days with little swell and I would most likely stay close to the rock wall. I’ve fished all over Santa Cruz on the tamarak and on days with no wind it gets the job done. Hopefully I can get out there this season on a good day and get on them🤙🏼

By all means...please bring your conservator/stewardship up a notch or two...get rid of that large mesh net in favor of a fine mesh landing net...what is happening is the tails of the halibut are being SPLIT, which doesn't heal, but ROTS. Thanks for watching. I only net it when I'm 100% sure if it's a keeper. You can watch my previous videos and see for yourself. I did net shakers when I went butt fishing for the first time and I didn't know about the tail split/rot. I was just playing along and said "i hope" because my buddy was doubting me 😂.
