Hey guys! In this video I go over how Alan Grant was revealed to have almost been in The Lost World: Jurassic Park! And surprisingly it's VERY legit! The evolution of the 2nd movie's plot involved lots of different dinosaurs outside of the T.rex and raptors...and it also included a lot of different characters that would have interacted with Malcolm! Dr. Grant was in early talks to appear in these conversations between David Koepp and Spielberg before the idea went extinct. Hopefully we will see something like this after Fallen Kingdom in Jurassic World 3! Hope you all enjoy! :D

I know they specify that Grant was heavily set in his ways and Malcolm is moving forward into the future and therefore Site B, but Grant and Malcolm appearing together for The Lost World could have been absolutely immense!! Kind of works with JP3 Grant and him considering the ingen dinos as monsters. If he had trouble accepting them being alive that mindset could make the transition to 'they're not dinos, just theme park monsters'. Which is hilarious since Wu seems to agree with this train of thought in JW.

I don't like the idea of Grant becoming a hopeless drunk. He seemed pretty content at the end of JP with Lex and Tim falling asleep at his side while watching the birds over the ocean. That's almost as bad as how they treated Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi.

I feel like Grant's depiction here actually lines up with JPIII, and may have actually benefited it and made it more relevant. Alan doesn't want to go back to the island ever again and is struggling REALLY hard with it, and while he's better in III, it isn't until the end that he's come around and felt much better about it with a recreation of his happy ending from the first adventure. Would have given him a stronger character arc overall, and it makes me curious about how he'll be in JW3. I remember as a kid an idea I had was that, after JP, each sequel would focus on a specific OG character. Lost World on Malcom, III on Grant, so it made sense to me that a JPIV would focus on grown up Tim and Lex somehow (which kinda happened in the comics!).

Yeah and I wish that Alan Grant would’ve been mentioned as to where he is and why Malcom couldn’t find or see him. And I think we should’ve gotten deleted scenes where Ian was on the phone with Alan while Grant is in China. And maybe shoot a few scenes with Alan watching the San Diego Zoo that got scrapped that would’ve been cool to see his reaction to Peter Ludlows San Diego dinosaur zoo. And I think he Sensed that San Diego incident with the T Rex rampage but didn’t bother taking action. Like I feel that he watched it unfold from far away in China possibly.

His presence in the movie or a reference to him as having been contacted by Hammond as a candidate for being the 4th team member would have been interesting; but not portraying him as having a drinking problem as a result of his experiences in the first movie. I disagree with that creative decision in taking his character in that direction. A conversation between Grant and Malcolm over the possibility of Ingen moving dinosaurs to the mainland though, if the San Diego park was revealed sooner, would have been fascinating to watch. So long as Grant was portrayed as a sober and very serious about the potential danger.

Not gonna lie, I saw the title of this and clicked straight away because I thought you were going to mention a different moment. I’m genuinely fascinated to hear that Dr Grant actually was going to appear in JP2. It’s been a long running theory of mine that he was, but for a different reason. It always felt like the scene at Hammond’s house, with Ian Malcolm seeing Lex and Tim again, was written with Alan Grant in mind and the casting just got changed. After all, they seem very fond of a man they had next to no contact with the whole time they were at Jurassic Park. I’ve rationalised it by saying that the two of them heard, “Get the kids!” and the T Rex running away and see Ian as their other rescuer, the man who almost died to save their lives, and that’s why they are so happy and excited to see him. Also, if it weren’t for the fact that Lex doesn’t give any signs that she’s ever spoken to Dr Malcolm since Jurassic Park, I’d like to think the young hacker and him stayed in touch online and he tutored her in advanced mathematics. After all, you need to be good with numbers to be able to hack, especially at her young age. So I like to think that he took her under his wing as a young prodigy and started training her up. But I have no evidence for that, it’s just a fan theory that I like.

Alan Grant being in the movie might've been a good idea, especially if it lead to the original plot of him already being on the island in JP3(I can see him taking Ian's idea to get past his fears and to understand the dinosaurs) But I also want Ian to still rush to the island to make sure Sarah was alright too, like maybe before he makes a decision, he finds out that his girlfriend had already to went to the island like in the film.

I think Grant being afraid and drinking to cope is kinda out of character for him compared to how he was in the first movie. Throughout JP, he always had a cool and clear mind until the very end. I think it would have been neat to see Grant reunite with Malcom in TLW and soberly warning him that it's a bad idea to go back, but drunk PTSD Grant isn't my favorite writing idea and I'm glad it didn't make it in.

Grant was a pretty loved character to a lot of people I'd bet. And I know I always wished he was in the sequel somehow, so I agree, it would have helped any of the movies. Although maybe not the first Jurassic World, because I feel like that has become a whole nother mini Trilogy in itself, meaning I don't think it would have worked for the first movie. A little time goes by and people definitely miss him so then, you bring them back in a second and/or third Jurassic world movie.

I think any dialogue featuring Malcolm as a curious guy who didn't learn from the first time would contradict the things he said in the scene with Hammond and his eagerness to rescue Sarah and get her off the island. The only reason he went to isla sorna was to rescue her. And he got even angrier when he discovered his daughter snuck onto the trip. And he got angrier when Nick and Sarah tried to help the baby Rex with it's broken leg. So signs were showing the whole time that he was opposed to this trip from the start.

I know that this channel is the one and only place where ill get the answer ill need!! Here goes....... In Fallen Kingdom, why is it such a big deal to catch Blue for her D.N.A ? When samples should be on record/file in the islands lab? Or where ever she and her siblings where created etc? It also goes for the I-Rex too, surely samples would be on the islands system or stored in their archives?? I dont recall hearing that all the dinosaurs D.N.A samples/data being destroyed or corrupted at any point. Wouldnt recovering the dinos D.N.A. samples/data be alot easier than the actual dino itself?? Thanks.

I find it kind of interesting that this version of Alan Grant is kind of similar to his appearance in Jurassic Park 3. I've seen a lot of people complain about how his attitude toward the InGen dinosaurs in that movie contradict the first one, but clearly the writers (at least one of them) envisioned his almost post-traumatic aversion to them for some time.

Besides the dinosaurs he was the star of the first movie so yeah. Even a cameo would of been cool. Malcolms cameo crushed it in fallen kingdom. JW3 will be great with them 2 getting together. I wonder how Grant faired after JP in the film universe. We know Malcolm was publicly humiliated after he tried to reveal it all to the public. He wrote a book. I believe Grant did write a book too but did he suffer? I imagine he kept quiet but after the lost world and dinosaurs were made public he wrote his second book and he got a bit of fame like at the start off JP3. Interesting stuff. :D

I think Grant meant "you can't go back" not in a literal sense, like going back to the island, but in a way that you can't undo what Ingen has done, i.e. that you'd have to adapt to the new reality of Dinsoaurs being alive again, which he obviously has a hard time with.

It make sense that Ian wouldn't be as scared as Alan getting back to the island of dinosaurs cause he never faced all the terrors that Alan went through in the first movie. While personally I would find the scene interesting, always loved Alan Grant in the movies, but while I find it an interesting path to take the character on, I think it would alienate much of the audience at the time. JP (movies) has largely been about the thrill of exploration, of discovery, what is possible, and then obviously the danger with taking that step into the unknown. While the books are wonderfully dark, the tone it would set for the character does not seem to align with the tone that the movies were trying to set. As such emotional or psychological trauma seems to be a bit too dark for the tone of the movies. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work Klayton!

Having Grant come back like this would for me ruin his character (it wouldn't blend into 3 that good). That being said, the meeting would have been cool. Like Ian goes to Alan, ask him for his help. Alan like no, one brush of death was enough for me.

Dr. Grant is my fav character and is the main protagonist of the series. It's one of the reasons why I prefer JP3 over TLW with the exception of the Spinosaurus.

Omg this would have been insane. Although idk if JP3 would have happened the same if this had taken place with Grant at the bar. Sam Neill is one of my favorite actors so to have seen him portray this version of Grant Ugh!! Would have been awesome!

I think that would've been an excelent bridge for Grant between Lost World and JP3.

In the novel, Grant was in China digging up dinosaurs and finding out that they had feathers.

Well Grant's dream of the talking raptor in the 3rd movie would have made more sense if he had made that ' Don't go back' scene with Malcome in JP2.

I was sad that Alan Grant was not in JP2 (he is one of my favorite 3 people in the first movie), and hearing that part actually made me happy that he is not in it. But here's an idea: Malcom and Dr. Grant should have switched roles. Grant loves all the dinosaurs even more than Dr. Satter, and it is because of him that Lex and Tim survived, so I can easily imagine that he would like to have a clear answer and is willing to go to Site B for answers. Malcom was almost killed in the first film, made into laughter and is guaranteed to lose a lot of respect in his job, so I can imagine that he can sit full in a bar and be harassed and bullied by the others in the bar when Grant finds him . They exchange a few words with each other, and malcom understands what Grant is planning (to travel to the other island) and tries to stop Grant, but ends up following him there instead. At the end of the movie, after they've survived the worst (more at Malcom's expense than Grant's, who always manages to stay away from it because of his knowledge and understanding) Grant says that Malcom is right and that this is the last time he visits the island or any other islands with rumors about the dinosaurs of life. Malcom just says(heavy breathing); Good, for next time I'm not there to save you. (View JP3 here)

Hmm... I would have loved for Grant to have made a return in TLW, but I also fear that turning him into a drinker with severe PTSD would have ruined his character for me from that point onward. And although I'm not that fond of his character more or less hating the animals that had previously left him awe struck, I feel the JP3 depiction was still better than this early draft of TLW. And I would have absolutely have LOVED that potential character arc that had been originally drafted for him in JP3, with Grant living on Sorna to observe and study the animals that he had fallen in love with for most of his life.

I don't think a small cameo would have helped and that's not the Grant we knew.

In his drunken state alone at the bar He whispers to himself "where are you Ellie, where are you" he thinks about all their year's together, ,their life.. all a hazy blur, he downs his whiskey and bumps into Malcolm who is happy to see grant ..I could definitely see It..they need to reunite in jw3 but I doubt it

I really hope they add not only everyone from the first movie like lex, Tim and grant but some new stuff like new dinosaurs that maybe can be used by the old characters to show the us government to not kill them but to sanctuary (for real this time)

No one didn't mention Grant's name in The Lost World,Jurassic World or Fallen Kingdom. Even if he did appeared in The Lost World, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom I would've like to see Grant confront and stand against human antagonists like Ludlow,Hoskins and Mills because that would be cool and badass.
