The Brera is a lovely looking car. I have a real soft spot for Alfas, my first ever car was a 1.6 petrol 147. Not bought an Alfa since though, they always look beautiful but rarely have the performance to back it up. At least they put more than a 1.9/2 litre 4 cylinder as the top diesel model. 5 cylinder engines are just cool! According to Wikipedia the 2.4 JTDM got up to 214bhp in the Spider and 440Nm of torque in the Brera. Although BMW and VW have pushed their 2 litre diesels to similar levels using twin turbos and Alfa was also up against the 2.5/3 litre 6 cylinder diesels from their German competitors. What surprises me is that you don't actually get that much more performance going for the 3.2 V6. They really should have had a hotter petrol engine (forced induction v6 or an n/a v8) with the 4wd system mapped for a rear-drive bias as the flagship model. Also find it interesting that the Q4 4wd system was only available with the V6 petrol engine even though it would've been ideal for the JTDM too. I like the little turbo gauge in the instrument cluster! I suppose all the diesels and the later 1.75 TBi would've had that... If I can one day afford it I would love to get a 3.2 V6 Q4 Brera and have Autodelta supercharge it (along with all the other upgrades they have done on similar builds...I've read that they have supercharged both the Prodrive front-wheel drive models that were set up with sportier suspension and brakes, and also Q4 models too).
@DignitasCars3 жыл бұрын
Yeah true, they look faster than they really are. 😅 Nevertheless 5 cylinder diesel engines are quite exotic, which makes sense to put in such a car 😃 A 300 hp+ engine would have been nice back then. How much costs such a supercharger upgrade for the 3.2 V6?
@nvl26913 жыл бұрын
@@DignitasCars The supercharger costs as much as the car (8k euro). Not worth it - you can get almost 300 hp by changing the entire exhaust system (including exhaust manifolds) and remapping it!

Jts engine Is no go, 2.4jtdm with remap Is quicker and definitely better handling car without that big and slow v6 infront. But if you want q4, you must go for 159. Sadly
@michelangeloboldri98932 жыл бұрын
The 4 cyl diesels were(JTDm) were used in Lancia and Saab, more importantly with 2 turbos and made 190 hp there. VAG was really behinf with implentation of CR and I wouldn't compare it - the 2.0 TDI that did have CR was way worse on reliability, power and smoothness than the 1.9s and 2.0s. I honestly suspect that the old stereotype made the decision - not to give 2 turbos and 190-200 hp from a 4 cyl. And the ignorant idiots will praise " the awesome Saab or Opel 2.0 diesel" which is literally just an Alfa engine - for its durability. Car world is full of idiots. The 159/Brera platform is just too heavy imho. The 147 you had has A LOT in common with the original Delta when it comes to suspension ( the setup is extremely close in the back and even better in the front, GT/147/156 have the same setup and it is derived from the Delta - created by the same people from Lancia-Abarth Rally Team, that were moved in 1993 to Alfa for DTM and then stayed for productions cars. As far as I am aware - and I could be mistaken/simply wrong - the 159/Brera platform was legally destined to come from GM and there was nothing that could be done. And so it has a COMPLETELY different, truly Alfa suspension setup - but the floor itself will have stayed. That of course explains why Vectra did so badly in the moose tests which the 159 and e90 won ( with Alfa in the 1st place) But it also explains the weight. I wish there was another way of noting handling on paper than just G numbers. Corners and speeds can be very different. If handling was noted, in another way, than lap times and Gs ( lap times are dictated by power also) more people would buy those cars.
@dreammachine862 жыл бұрын
@@michelangeloboldri9893 That's some really interesting information, thanks! I'm a bit disappointed with Alfa's current range as they only have the larger Giulia and the SUV models. I really prefer my smaller cars, hot hatches and coupes. So I'd be much more interested in the Giulietta and MiTo - especially if they had done an even hotter version of the MiTo. It seems like smaller powerful cars are on the way out, with smaller electric cars and sporty SUVs being where the interest is. I remember reading articles about Fiat/Stellantis' revival plans for Alfa a while back, that in addition to the on-trend SUVs they would also be looking at a rear-drive platform that could be used not just for a saloon but a Giulietta replacement plus, compact coupe and luxury coupe. Doesn't seem like that is where they will go now although I did read about their concept for an all electric Spider which would be cool. Probably my best bet if I want to get an Alfa again but have no interest in the saloon or bigger models would be a used Giulietta Quadrifoglio but then it never really set the car world on fire but it does look lovely for a hatchback. I test drove the 1.4 turbo petrol version once and didn't feel like it had much performance, probably down to the weight. But if I had the budget for a Quadrifoglio I could also look at the Audi S1, another discontinued small performance car that would almost certainly drive better and be more reliable.

Was braucht denn deine Alfa von 100-200? Hast du das mal gemessen?😀 Ein Vergleich an der Stelle wäre sehr spannend, da ich immer noch der Meinung bin, dass diese Alfa keine 200 PS hat.
