I'm getting really sick of hearing "it's predictable, we've seen this before." You hear it in every. single. movie review. Either "it's good but we've seen this before" or "it's bad and we've seen this before." We've seen everything before. We're at the point in film making now where nothing is really that original anymore. Movies don't have to reinvent the wheel every single time to not be criticized for lack of originality because that's impossible.

That's lazy. You don't have to reinvent the wheel in order to approach film in an original way. It's no lie that most major Hollywood productions cater to the masses and retain popular themes and tropes instead of experimenting with new things that might compromise their attempts to make money.

That's not lazy, it's the result of decades of films being made and taking all the original ideas. And you're right, most major Hollywood productions don't just try to be original, because making a movie for originality sake makes bad movies. Good film makers make movies to make good movies, and if it's really original and no one else has thought of anything like that before, great! That's a bonus. But there's not much room for that anymore.

alonso is wrong about captain orum(?)'s - billy crudup's - faith not coming up again, it does several times. after the original complaint of not being able to move up the ranks bc they don't consider a person of faith' capable of making rational decisions, catherine waterston's character tells him 'we need your faith' when things start to go bad, he also tells david 'i met the devil when i was a child and i never forgot his face.' and then when he wakes up after being attacked he asks david 'what do you believe in?' to which david answered 'creation.' I wasn't sure how i felt about it after seeing it once, but after seeing it again I really appreciate it. The only problems I had with it were that it seemed to move too fast and could have really benefitted from 20 or so more minutes of character development and maybe slowing the ending down just a little bit. But look at what it did right - everyone thought they'd be complaining about Danny Mcbride and he was great!

Really entertaining. It is really predictable and tropey and doesn't do anything new for the genre, but it's engaging, well executed, and nicely paced. It sags a bit at the end. It builds on Prometheus so you need to see it first. And also worth watching the prologue clips you find online.

I wasn't analyzing Westworld a bunch so I didn't catch on to the identity of the Man in Black, but I was reading a review of, I want to say the seventh episode, and they mentioned the theory and I read it and said aloud "oh, that's right, that's totally what's going on", same thing with R + L =J, you hear the theory and you don't even need to keep watching to be absolutely certain that's what's going on.

I feel the same, and i think most Alien fans do also. The first film plays out like its just one coincidence, or a big accident. They came across the eggs, and its up to them to figure out how the beat them... Not where they came from, who is their creator. Who runs the Weyland Corporation (now the Weyland-Yutani Corporation)? And loads of other back story. However, after watching the film.. Its score by Rotten Tomatoes is very fair. 75% is fair. I won't spoil it if you haven't watched it (of course). But the film doesn't know when to speak, or when to show. Theres too much speaking, and awkward clunky exposition in dialogue.

Christie, this may come out as nitpicking, But it actually comes from many other videos as well. PLEASE put a laptop in front of you, if you really have to look up stuff during the review... first, it takes a long time before get what you want thru a tiny phone, and by the time you find whatever you're looking for, guys have already moved on from the topic. secondly, it's distracting at times and one might think you're checking your texts or emails or whatever. you're awesome by the way. Alfonso, that's the thing. Alien and all of the pictures in that franchise good or bad are not JUST a monster movies. AVP is a monster movie, Alien is much more deep exploration of human psyche.

In a twisted way, this movie shares a similar type of villain, someone who delights in torture and murder. Many people have argued why would the crew of the Covenant be so unscientific? No spacesuits? Really? But then, none of the deaths would happen or aliens appear with common sense.

I think this movie had promise. The main idea was great and the end was perfect. But the writing oh the writing. I couldn't help but think that the crew where bus drivers with no military experience or service experience at all. I mean a woman brings an infected man into a ship and the other woman destroyed a ship all by herself. I thought she was backing a pie and it just went bad in so many ways. I must admit as a woman I felt offended. Lol. I was hating this crew so much that anything good that happens after that it was overshadowed by the crews performance. The cinematography was beautiful and is a must see from the Aliens fans as myself. But .... 6 out of 10. But you must see it. Because the ending was perfect in my mind.

David has to take the ship to the moon where the first Alien and Prometheus takes place right? He creates the Xenomorphs so they have to end up on that LV-426 or whatever the hell it is called right? How do LV-223 and LV-426 connect? There isn't enough time for David to introduce the alien eggs with the facehuggers. I dunno seems like a continuity nightmare. Also, why do the engineers on the their home world look so primitive? They are supposed to be super advanced, yet their culture looks like it was set in Roman times.

Do not expect too much going in. This movie is basically 80% Prometheus and 20% Alien. (Ridley Scott originally wanted to call the sequel to Prometheus "Paradise" which actually makes more sense than "Alien: Covenant.") This movie is what Prometheus was supposed to be in the first place. But it's not much more than that. It's more about the origin of life and the android than about the beautiful creation by H.R. Giger (ghee-gur). Summary: not quite Alien, but beats Prometheus. A solid 7/10.

After seeing this, you guys are being far too harsh on it. It most certainly recovers a ton of goodwill I lost on Prometheus. The bit about Byron/Shelley was clever as fuck, too. The 2 male androids discussing Ozymandias while omitting Shelley's more famous wife, the author of Frankenstein - AKA the birth of science fiction/horror in literature written by a strong, independent woman whilst being a part of the franchise led by strong independent women that gave birth to modern horror/science fiction in cinema. The only bit that ground my gears was the obvious switcheroo and how much better the film would have been (to me) if Scott didn't go that route.

I found this film made the exact same mistakes Prometheus made - things with the first 2 films in the franchise did NOT do - which is failing to have it's characters act in realistic and believable ways. No scientist, nor anyone with a modicum of training and sense, would do what these people did, or act/re-act in the ways they do. On top of that, even the Alien 'acts' out of character...the development of the last chest-buster into a fullsize humanoid Xenomorph is way too fast. It's depressing that Scott has done this twice. We should know better, and we - and this franchise - definitely deserve better.

Miki Miki after this trilogy is completed I think prometheus might be better. I wanted to like it, and was excited for it based on the premise, but the execution was absolute shit, with the most rudimentary flaw being how shallow and un-fleshed out every potentially exciting concept was. has nothing to do with expectations, and really assuming you have even the faintest idea of what 'good storytelling' and 'plot development' means then it's impossible to not see all the problems in prometheus, just from a technical standpoint. the characters are woefully underdeveloped for the most part. then you have the issue with their actions coming off as very strange based on what is shown, and this is due to damon lindelof doing a ''re-write'' on top of what jon spaiths had created initially, lindelof kept all characters intact he just stripped a bunch of stuff and added lots of dumb shit.

I like the movie, it's beautifully done. But.... Not as scary or frightening as so many people claimed it to be. Bloody and gory but definitely not scary at all. You hate it, you like it... Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I don't trust movie critics most of the time. I rather see it for myself and make my own judgement. Yeah, it's rather predictable... But the look of it and Michael Fassbender made it worth watching it. Watch with open mind and high expectations will only make you miserable and not enjoy it. I can't wait for the next one!

Their number system doesn't make a lot of sense. 70% is a C grade, Christy who liked the movie a lot gave it a 7.8, which is just a C. Letter grades A B C D F would be a lot more clear. There was a channel that graded movies, See It, Rent It, Skip It. That's better than this channel's method, also.

Not in 1979 cause communists let american movies in our country a little later :-D (it sucked back then :-D) , couple years later but still. Yeah shes a sweet soul. Sorry but I disagree with almost everything they said. I was bored not scared. At the mandatory jump scare, I sighed because it was so predictable like a lot of this movie. It's not predictable in a good sense with things like a good setup and you can guess the payoff. It's more like "I bet this idiot is going to do this instead of doing that" because it's that kind of stupidity that's rampant in the plot. A couple of logical decisions made at any point by any character and this story wouldn't have existed. That how flimsy this plot is. I never look at my watch in a movie. I checked the time five times in this movie, that was how so little I cared about anything. Did the movie have a couple of good things? Yes. This visuals ( minus the CG alien in 2d), the performances of the actors and the first act. Was it enough to forgive the idiotic plot holes and lack of any tension or suspense or investment in the story? Absolutely not. Think for five minutes and all the movie comes crashing down. Not that it there's wrong with certain movies. This Alien wants to make believe it's something more brainy than a monster movie then FAILS. Then it fails at being even a monster movie. Can some enjoy it? Probably. If they're drunk or like big plot holed movies to wrap their heads around the inconsistencies or are much more forgiving than I about things. Would I recommend it? NOT AT ALL.
