Members of my family were very loving towards me & prayed for me continually. I knew that they believed I needed Christ & did not approve of my sexuality or spirituality. In 2007, I met the love of my life, who was a man, at a gathering where we were both teaching Witchcraft. In 2008, we married, though I still identified as bisexual. In 2013, at the end of my rope, I came to trust in Christ, & shortly thereafter my husband did as well. Now it's 2024, & Jesus Christ is the center of our lives, my husband is a Bible teacher, & I write & sing scripture & gospel songs! I do not identify thru my sexuality anymore ~ I am simply a new creature in Christ, a child of the Most High. I thank God for his mercy & my family for their long-suffering & faithfulness. Glory to his name forever!!!

@@philnahenriet2550 Oh wow! I am so sorry to hear that. In my case, I thought I was born again as a child, but then decided I was a lesbian at 18. After coming to Christ at 41, I realized I had not really been born again before, even though I believed intellectually in Jesus. For me, I think I was too young to morally understand my need for a Saviour at that point. As far as your daughter, pray for her continually, & hold fast to the truth. My family was always loving with me, but they never condoned my wayward path or changed their views. It took a looong time, but I was finally able to see that I was wrong. Also, if there is any way to get her more into the Bible, I would suggest that. Soon after I got saved, I searched out the issue of homosexuality in the scriptures to know the truth for myself & realized that it was contrary to God's design & will. I also learned that we overcome temptations & trials in this life thru the power of the Holy Spirit. God bless you, & I will pray for your daughter RIGHT NOW.

But the training does say to think about order of presentation and prioritization of main gospel message over particular sins being discussed. And seeing these folks in their sins breaks Christians hearts, because we don’t want to see them in hell, we want them in heaven with us! But we need to never stop emphasizing that no matter how bad they feel, how sinful and dirty they feel, how many problems they have Yashua will wash them clean. There is a before Christ and an after Christ and the difference is night and day. The problem is so many LGBT don’t believe in Hid. Or , like in several of my experiences talking to LGBT, they believe they are Christian’s, and that the Bible doesn’t condemn homosexuality. They believe the lies put out by the leaders of the LGBt, that the Bible was changed, that it said that either sex wieh children is what is condemned or that it’s sex wieh male pagan temple prostitutes that is condemned. You woukd be shocked at all the comvuluted twists that LGBT go through mentally to claim that Bible doesn’t condemn homosexuality! What that says to me is that some of them , want their cake and eat it too. They want to be able to claim they are Christian’s and still indulge in the pleasures of their sins. Read the book “ After the Ball. How America will conquer its fear and hatred of gays in the 90’s” by Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen . It’s like the communist manifesto for how to make homosexuality normal and accepted in America. It’s full of half truths, misinformation and outright lies. It says that homosexuals should say that “ They are born that way, they are born gay” yet later in the book the authors ad it that there is no gay gene and what causes a person to identify as homosexual is very complex and not fully understood . This book also advises local leaders in the LGBT community, to tone down the sexual Pride events, to not talk to media about any incident that makes LGBT look bad or any crimes committed by a LGBT. The authors of the book ookmsay it’s about Public Relations, and spinning the LGBT lifestyle to look normal, non criminal, safe, and hide anything that isn’t positive. This book is out of print, but it’s a ilable as a PDF online of you google it. I recommend this book to all Christians to help them see the roots of this LGBT movement and how to counter some of the “facts” that are widely accepted as truth, and scientific fact by the ignorant LGBT. But also to see that there are those that are deliberately pushing the lies, misinformation and half truths as carved in stone facts to achieve a particular aganda, they are working toward a goal.

If the Church would "draw the line in the sand", the power that would be unleashed could not be measured. If we continue to bow to the culture, the culture is going to win. We have sponsored missionaries thru CRU for years, but no longer. Our people have left CRU to go to other missions because they could no longer align themselves with the direction in which CRU is going. There is a reason why Christians are to be different from the world. A "Royal Priesthood" should not be bowing to anyone for any reason!

@@amylynnhunt55 what did they do back then? Do you remember anything particular? There were subtle changes that looking back you can see how dangerous it was. Like I remember a pastor saying to get saved was like getting fire insurance. They backed off preaching about hell, forgetting that Jesus preached about hell quite often. Now when they baptize they totally omit the word “repent” it used to be: do you repent of your sins and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior?? Or close to that. Now it’s say the sinners prayer and welcome to the family? WE can’t save ourselves, He’s not up there saying “oh, I hope they pick me!” You Repent of your sins and if you’re sincere and truly seek Him He will work in you. It’s heartbreaking that so many people think they’re ok and are not. The church is fixated on numbers that they’re not focusing on true discipleship.

As someone who works for Cru, I'm thankful that Cru does take a historical biblical stance and their training actually reflected this.

Yes, the whole issue is divisive. It’s not the fault of those affirming biblical truth. A similar thing happened to us at our church, over a different issue (pornography). All we were asking is that the truth be brought to light. We were accused of disunity. We left our church before we were formally disfellowshipped, in order to spare our children the humiliation, but, sadly, the situation did negatively affect our children’s faith. We must remember that Jesus Himself said, I came not to bring peace but a sword. (Matthew 10:34)

That’s what Yashua would happen, sons against fathers, daughters against mothers, becaise one is a believer in God and Yashua and the other is not. We are seeing the prophesies of the Bible, the very things Yashua warned us about ( He said “Do not be decieved” ) are unfolding in our lifetimes. We are told to stay strong and persist to the end, keep,our eyes on that prize of salvation and heaven. When somone is not a believer we can talk to them to plant the seed, pray and fast for them and love the person. We can lead them to the Living Waters, but we can’t make them drink. And some prefer their fake affirming form of Christianity that allows them to wallow in their sins and feel less guilty about it. And most importantly we ourselves need to serve as an example of Christian life . There are far too many fake Christian’s who give all Christians and Christianity a bad name. But we can’t make them believe and repent. We have to depend on God to nurture that seen, convict their hearts and bring them to Him.

Respectfully, a colleague of mine and his wife chose not to attend their son's gay wedding and clearly stated why. Since then (6 years) the son has had zero contact with them despite their many attempts to repair the breach. On the other hand, another colleague and her husband chose to attend the gay wedding of their daughter (and clearly stated their biblical position) and have continually spent time since then with the gay couple, including forming loving relationship with the "spouse". They continue to pray for the transformation of their daughter & spouse through repentance. When I left Cru staff after 12 years I found myself employed for 2+ years in a business that had more gay than straight employees. I learned a lot. I'm convinced you will have great difficulty persuading people while at the same time they feel judged by you through words and actions. You are right, it is really very hard on our relationships. We went through the Sprinkles "Biblical Sexuality" course at our church. It really felt like the course was blaming believers for gay people who grew up in the church leaving the faith. It completely ignored any idea of people leaving the church because they want to live in their sin without feeling "uncomfortable," if gay people left the church it was always the fault of the church, not the sin. If you aren't super accommodating and making sure everyone feels at home, regardless of whether they're repentant or not, you are in sin and need to repent, not the people living in sexual sin. It felt super bizarre to be going through it in an otherwise strong church. It definitely felt like the SBC is promoting it without telling the churches what's in it, because there's no way our church would have played it if they had actually watched it first.

I have a looooooong relationship with Cru (my husband and I met on short term mission trip, my Grandmother was on staff and friends w Bill Bright, and we supported friends on staff for the past 31 years) we stopped our direct support of Cru last Nov for many different reasons had a long talk w one of the friends we support who is literally at the top, hoping our talk helped her see how far away from what Bill Bright started but more importantly from the word of God. We still support them individually but not through Cru and won’t until they get things back right. Glad you did this podcast. Praying for that couple. They did the right thing.

In terms of orientation, Cru believes that one must recognize that same-sex orientation is contrary to God's design for human sexuality and that it represents a disordering of sexual desire in our fallen condition and is neither morally neutral or morally good. Of course we believe that it is important to distinguish the experience of having same-sex attraction vs. acting on it in thought, word, or deed. Dwelling on immoral sexual thoughts or acting on immoral sexual impulses is sin, and intentionally seeking out situations which are likely to be tempting is also inappropriate for Christians. This is Cru's stance.

Wow, this testimony resonates with me. My husband and I went through a vaguely similar situation at our local Christian school. My husband graduated from there; I attended 12 years; and our son graduated from there. Last spring, our daughter was completing her 8th year there. We loved that place. We poured our hearts and souls into it. And suddenly our eyes were opened, last spring, to disturbing things. Looking back, for years there were warning signs which we reasoned away. Last spring, we properly proceeded through the chain of command. Our concerns were openly mocked, we were belittled and eventually "shunned" and even after we left this past fall, they sent a letter to all of the educational association members denigrating me. It has been utterly heartbreaking. It has also been faith-building. I think on various levels, many Biblical Christians are beginning to experience persecution -- often from the people and organizations we have trusted as beacons of the faith in our own lives and families.

It’s an old story. Recently, Alisa, someone commented on your conversation with the Mundells, “Bill Bright would weep.” I don’t think so. In 1986, while I was a missionary in Ireland, Campus Crusade for Christ appointed a Catholic as the national leader in Ireland. Concerned, I wrote to Bill Bright. He said he was unaware of the appointment and promised to look into it, but nothing changed. In 1994, Bill Bright was one of the signatories of "Evangelicals and Catholics Together." This controversial document encouraged both groups to unite in spreading the Gospel. This prompted the question from many: "Which Gospel?" Prominent evangelical leaders, including James Kennedy, John MacArthur Jr., and R.C. Sproul, challenged Bright on his compromising approach to proclaiming the Gospel. They spoke to him in private at a meeting at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale. Bill Bright passionately defended his position. At one point, he tearfully asserted that without collaboration between Catholics and Evangelicals, millions might never hear the Gospel. Again, we must ask, "Which Gospel?" In 2006, I spoke at a seminar in Rome, Italy, on Catholicism. At the end of the last session, five or six young women, all Americans, tearfully asked to speak to me. They were missionaries with Campus Crusade. They told me they had been trained to work within the Catholic Church and support it, not oppose it. They asked me what they should do. I told them, “I’m sorry, but you’ve been misled about what Catholicism actually teaches.” It’s the same all over the world, but few Americans know about it. Did you read the Catechism? Catholics believe Christ died for all, repent from sin and be baptized. That is the gospel. Jesus is our savior.

McCarthy Bracketed numbers refer to paragraphs of The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1995). 1. The Catholic Church: Justification is a transformation of the soul in which original sin is removed and sanctifying grace infused [1987-1995]. The Bible: Justification is an act of God in which He declares a sinner to be righteous in His sight, having forgiven the person’s sins and imputed to the person God’s own righteousness (Romans 3:21-4:8). 2. The Bible: There is no second justification. Those whom God justifies He also will glorify (Romans 8:30). 8. The Catholic Church: Salvation from the eternal consequences of sin is a lifelong process [161-162, 1254-1255]. The Bible: Salvation from the eternal consequences of sin is an instantaneous and secure act of God coinciding with justification (Romans 5:9). 9. The Catholic Church: Salvation is attained by cooperating with grace through faith, good works, and participation in the sacraments [183, 1129, 1815, 2002]. My children are in college. They are in Cru Bible study. They were recently asked to be leaders. Because of the sound teaching at their college group at church and the fact that I already knew Cru had issues, my children turned it down. They wanted them to give up their ministry at church. They literally pull young people away from their churches. That’s a major issue with me. Thank God, my children are totally aware of what they were doing. I would recommend parents stay engaged with what your children are doing as young adults. Don’t let any ministry pull them away from their church. Cru has so many issues. Please take time to check it thoroughly.

Cru's material did not teach that we shouldn't tell the people the truth but we should do it in a way that shows love. He went to the woman at the well...she followed him not because he was contemning her (she had had plenty of people- including I am sure many religious leaders) but because she say how much he loved her. He seeked her out, showed her compassion, noticed her, went specifically to her. But the first thing he said when he approached her was not 'You are a horrible person and going to hell.' My understanding from Jesus stories is he never preached that way to a person that wasn't a believer yet. Truth and love. That is what the material taught. I'm heartbroken that Satan is winning a few battles here by destroying an organization who's purpose is to go unto all the world and share Jesus.

As someone who works with Cru, this entire situations saddens me for many reasons. I deeply feel this for the Mundell's situation, and also for the misunderstandings that have been shared regarding the training and Cru. I want to briefly provide some clarity and please reply if it would be helpful to hear more on these things. I did go through this training and want to provide my own insight. In sharing all this, I have no ill will toward the Mundell's, I'm praying they are doing well and that this season of transition goes well for them. - Scripture was a large part of the training. For the first two modules alone I counted dozens and dozens of scripture references in relation to the topics being discussed. In fact, before starting the training we had a few days worth of devotionals that were to prepare us for entering into the training. These were scripture based and there to help us remember that we want to to enter into the training by being faithful to scripture (the meaning in Compassionate and Faithful). - "Clobber" passages were addressed, but in a way of strengthening their biblical strength. It was advised in using wisdom in how to use them, but that it is God's word and that it is both applicable and the reasons why we take a biblical historical view of marriage. Preston actually teaches how to counter the interpretations of these scriptures from people who are affirming. - The training did include the 4 perspectives for using pronouns from the beginning. These were a part of the discussion materials and were discussed in my training from the get go. - It was never mentioned, said or even implied that we don't concern ourselves with the inward desires or temptations. It especially wasn't said we don't worry about lust. In fact, quite the opposite was in the training. The idea of lust and dwelling on sinful passions was very much addressed and spoken as being sin. We were taught that "It represents a disordering of sexual desire in our fallen condition, which is neither morally neutral nor good." Meaning the presence of it will lead to sin if we don't submit it to God and live under his authority. We are to not allow ourselves lust in any sort of way, including this area. - Pronouns were used in a video because there were a wide range of people speaking and it was so we could know what part of the LGBTQ community. It wasn't an endorsement of using them in Cru, and it wasn't setting a precedence. - This was was all some things I remembered off the top of my head. I'm totally up to talking about this more!

Thank you for educating us on our slide into total apostasy, as it is gaining velocity. I am new to the idea of "clobber passages," but it is based on an observation I made years ago that has never failed me in navigating day to day. I found that when I (and others) are confronted on a subject that I (we) don't have a clear conscience over, or most importantly, that is taught in Scripture that I was ignoring or not yet aware of, we bristle and have a visceral response of disproportionate emotions. I found this observational "tool" to be very helpful in revealing to me what I need to learn by going back to Scripture in order to further align my actions and attitudes with God's Word. I have found this to work every time. When one calls a verse a "clobber" passage, it avoids the visceral response that the conscience God put within us is there to protect and bring more maturity to our walk (which truly born-again individuals crave.)

Whoa! Just started listening to this video and I hear “first, do not tell your pastor or anyone outside of the organization”. I immediately felt a punch to my gut because this is ONE of the most important, morally speaking things we are taught NOT to do. If there are secrets involved regarding most things then there is something seriously wrong at least where basic morals and how we live are concerned. A secret usually means there is something to hide and is a task no Christian or truth seeker should be asked to do. He said that the Organization has an interdenominational approach and therefore doesn’t necessarily jump on every difference in doctrine, but they had some social justice type people come in, and some who invited those kind of people in, that it caused a big division in the organization. also that they realized they could not go in that direction and stopped it. I appreciate how you covered this. I have noticed some of my more fundamental friends taking things too far in the other direction. I once heard a talk given by a gay christian. He had grown up gay in a christian house and he ended up rejecting God over it. His sexuality became his identity and he lived a terribly destructive lifestyle and ended up with AIDS and maybe hepatitis. When he hit rock bottom he turned to God. Now he finds his identity in Christ and lives celibate because he still struggles with homosexual desires. Even though he is preaching that homosexuality is sinful and using his own story to show the destruction that comes from embracing the lifestyle, I have friends who would not allow him to teach or lead because he still has gay desires. They forget that we all struggle with sin. I know several people who rejected God because they felt rejected by christians in similar ways. We must speak the truth but we should do it in love. You've done a good job of that here.

If I have any criticism at all of the church today, it’s about the man-made doctrine of cessationism. The idea that the Holy Spirit cannot heal people of things like identifying as homosexual, or of having the same-sex desires. It is a blanket rejection of a lot of the miraculous things in the New Testament, the things Jesus commanded us to do, as if the time for those were over. This is partially responsible for the idea that same-sex attraction cannot be overcome, and that acceptance of it is our only choice as a loving church.

It seems my comment I posted yesterday isn't showing up. I'll try again. You're right Alisa, there are Cru staff listening 🙂I've been a subscriber for years and have recommended many of your videos. I taught our Cru students about false teachers and heresy recently and spotlighted progressive "Christianity" as a prime example - and benefited from your work on that. Thank you for your great work! That's why I've been really discouraged to see some of how Cru has been portrayed recently - in particular by Rosaria, but also others. There is a lot I could comment on in this interview, but most skip long posts so I'll just mention a couple things. This whole thing is very unfortunate. I don't know the Mundells, but I do know hundreds of Cru staff and leaders. I'm sad things turned out this way. I'm sure some of their critiques were valid and considered. At the same time, some things said in this video are just not accurate. For example, at @12:33 Uriah says that the perspective from Cru is "if you're having lustful thoughts, as long as you're not acting on it, then that's not a problem." That is absolutely false. I don't know a single Cru staff who would agree with that, and it certainly is not in the curriculum. I would encourage everyone to read Cru's official statement. Just search "Cru sexuality" and it is the top hit. (KZbin is blocking the direct link)

If the Mundell's continue to insist that same-sex orientation/attraction are inherently sin, and not something distinct from lust, then this would be sad. But like you, I do not know any CRU staff who believe that "if you're having lustful thoughts, as long as you're not acting on it, then that's not a problem," and this idea is definitely something not being promoted by Preston Sprinkle. If other followers of Alisa's channel (which I normally appreciate immensely) are confused about this, they should read Sprinkle's _People To Be Loved_ for themselves.

Jesus didn’t separate attraction from lust or lust from adultery, and didn’t separate any of that from sin. We’re focused here on “the curriculum,” but not on what Scripture teaches. I am a sinner in need of God’s grace, and so are same-sex attracted people.

As someone who works for Cru, I would say you should absolutely give in ways you have peace with God about. I would also encourage you to speak with these staff you support and let them explain these topics to you. I have found that many of Cru's views have been misrepresented, and I addressed some of these in this video in another comment. It's unfortunate and saddening to me to have Cru's stances and training be misrepresented like they have been over the past few months.

There's a huge difference between being under 'grace' and being under 'deception'. Your conduct is your character and if you're thought life isn't biblical, you'll be following that into action. Scripture is not changed because of culture. We do not serve a 'progressive' God - God said: "I the Lord God change not". and Jesus said: "I am the same yesterday, today and forever'. Very different circumstance but I understand how you feel and why- I am a senior citizen who reported abuse by a member of church leadership - I was excommunication without justification or explanation within days and completely abandoned by my family who haven't spoken to me in 3 years and who refused to help me make the move of a lifetime - actually, no one, has had a conversation with me about any of this since it was reported in writing. I too, refuse to bow this~ I am completely alone without church or Christian fellowship and have no family or friends as result - stay strong - God's blessings for you and your family - when all is said and done, we will stand before a Just, Holy God , not before man, company, corporation or university - it's just us and God - 'Choose this day, whom you will serve". THere is certainly a cost to walking with God

It's really important to know when you watch this that this is only one side of the story, and one perspective out of thousands of people who are on staff with Cru. I encourage everyone to look for the facts and talk to Cru staff that you might know personally. Remember this is one podcaster asking questions that lead to a certain conclusion, based on one couple's interpretation of this training. I promise you there are MUCH more balanced perspectives on this training that is fully in-line with historic Christian values and doctrine. CRU staff with whom we have “tried” to talk to about issues we have heard about CRU and even the parts of staff trainings we have watched where total junk was shared, the staff give canned answers. I can hook you up with long time staff - even friends on staff over 40 years and part of overall leadership, who left staff disgusted and sickened by how unBiblical it was becoming. I just don’t trust most staff who have remained .

We are not a perfect organization and naturally not everyone agrees on the best approach to reach the lost for Christ. But I can promise you we have not drifted from our primary mission of winning students to Christ, building them in their faith, and sending them to reach their peers. Sadly, we do have friends with CRU, on staff for 40 years and in leadership too (sat in on many a leadership meeting down in Orlando,) who saw the handwriting on the wall. We had a chat a few years ago about why they left staff and they were some of the biggest CRU rah rahs you could meet. They are now on staff with a Biblically solid ministry. No one ever dreamed it would come to this.

They brought it on themselves, though. There was plenty of room to have a conversation within Cru about this without going to the public about it. They refused to do that. No one intended to fire them, but they went into that meeting with no intention of backing down on that one thing, and that's the one thing Cru is really serious about. In-house debates should remain in-house. They've fired people on the woke left for similar things when they wouldn't shut up about their complaints in public that the organization is white supremacist.

But I don't like the political tone of the writer Megan Basham who's more conservative than Christian in most cases. I heard often Christopher Yuan saying he was friendly with Preston so it should be easier to have even a private conversation. We don't break fellowship because of you think side b is a slippery slope or because the pronoun hospitality issue. Calling Preston heretic when he agrees in most doctrines of the orthodox faith is lame. Criticising the conference exiles in Babylon when you don't even attend that is dumb especially if you call yourself as an intellectual. If we fear of guests thinking different it shows how much the likes of Alisa are scared the faith of attendees is that weak.

The Mundells are to be commended. They were being massively gaslighted, but they remained steadfast in their faith. The frightening thing is that CRU as a whole has just gone down in flames (pardon the pun). CRU may have written a great letter to donors, but actions speak louder than words. The pastor and the elders in the Mundells church are such a blessing. The pastor and elders saw exactly what was going on, and called it and supported the Mundells.

@@clarkemorledge2398 Sprinkle is all about finding ways for people to be gay Christians. Let's not make it overly complicated. Let's just stop with accommodating sin, of any kind, shall we? We don't need a separate "Center" for every way a would-be Christian might sin, so as to keep the sinner coming to church, in hopes that he/she will eventually "get it" and see for himself/herself that, "Oh, my same-sex attraction is not a proclivity to be managed, but a sin to be killed!" We can save the would-be Christian a lot of rebellion (which is what Jesus saves us from, after all) by simply people know the truth from the get-go. We don't need Sprinkle's seminars on massaging the egos of sinners whose sins happen to be applauded in the broader culture.
