The Really sweet couple in this episode is destined for eternal happiness, due to the fact they actually talk with each other instead of to.

What a lovely couple. Very wise with their selling and also very careful about their buying. They were kind to one another and so caring. If that continues they will have a very happy life together and when children come they will make excellent parents. Godspeed to them.

Foolish choice as they want to start a family. The larger house was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The traditional lay-out was elegant & perfect for a future family.

Personally, that Grand old house would suit me to a tee. That is beautiful. The other one has three very major downfalls that would rule it out. The first is the living area on the first floor. That means that every bit of shopping has to be carried up stairs to the kitchen. Not convenient. Also, while the kitchen area is large, it is not well laid out for cooking a large meal, and the rest of that space would fill very quickly with furniture. The second issue follows the first, in that there is no direct access from the living areas to the garden. The third no go is that for a young family the layout does not work. Having the two secondary bedrooms two floors below the master is impracticable with two children under 6 or 7 years old.

@d.d.mac.37732 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. People with any idea of children would not, in good conscience, buy a house where their future children would not be on the same floor as the parents.
@serenakoleno93382 жыл бұрын
The 2 kids could share a room at first, then parents use the second one. As they get older, parents go upstairs and kids get own room, if desired. I could understand the reluctance. What he said about getting a different class of friends was very telling. He would feel like the Beverly Hillbillies moving into such a posh house. Lovely island and lovely couple. Hope they are parents now with a lovely life.

There were two bedrooms on the ground floor, for the first child they could be next door, and only move up to the attic when the kid or kids are older.

I'm so relieved they didn't push their luck. The big house was way too much of a leap in setting up costs and ongoing maintenance etc. It might well have bankrupted them. The house they got is gorgeous and I'm sure they will have lots of equity in it by now. Kristy and Phil should stop dangling carrots like that. Naughty naughty.

With additional plumbing, the house they chose can easily be let out to a ground floor lodger and converted into a 1 bed-kitchen-bathroom for rental income while the family chooses to live on the upper two floors.

"I would have to get a different class of mates." That says it all. Why purchase a large house with more space than you need and more grandeur than you feel comfortable with, just because you can? They were wise to buy what suits them, even if more modest...and let's face it, it's not all that modest!

@@neojng Given that it was almost 20 years ago, that would make sense but at the time, it would have been a stretch for them and the market wouldn't have recovered until at least five to seven years after they bought it. And what if they had to move out before the market recovered? They've been a number of couples on the show who bought right before the market crashed and they had to sell after it crashed and they lost thousands of pounds.

@@alliejones9864 No, because they did an update on this couple, and at the time they had one child and was perfectly happy with their decision. I think both of you are forgetting that the house was significantly over their budget and the guy was clearly uncomfortable with such a big house and of the idea of being financially strapped. Especially because this was right before the housing crisis. They would've been in a very bad situation.
