Thank you for providing these test results! I have a AMD Threadripper 3990X (64 cores) running with the same Noctua NH-U14S TR4 - 2 Fan configuration, and it keeps it nicely cooled.
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it would be a handful to cool! What kind of temps are you showing for idle and under load? I wanted a 3990X but thought it would be too tricky to cool and too much of a waste of power to use for my daily 10 hour day driver.
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
Tempted to watercool it - maybe a AIO for TR4 will come along or might do a custom loop.
@TonyWauters4 жыл бұрын
@@techable7524 I performed the same test as you on my 3990X (5 minute Cinebench R20) and max temp was 77.1°C and the average idle temp is 51.2 °C. I assume since they use the same TDP it is not that much different in the amount of heat generated.
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
@@TonyWauters A very valid point on the TDP :-) thanks for doing the test also! It's always good to know I've added everything correctly and these are normal temps for the TDP. Hmmm maybe should have gone for the 3990X - little envy now!
@TonyWauters4 жыл бұрын
@@techable7524 Don't have to much envy because not all applications support 64 cores / 128 threads (especially on Windows..). So depending on your applications you will not see much benefit on the 3990X.

I am building a TR4 desktop for heavy maths calcs (not for mining any cryptocurrency if you ask for). 1 or 2 C degrees does not seem to be a lot to justify another fan. Or I am missing something?
@mathlind4 жыл бұрын
When testing only one fan, did you leave the other one mounted on the cooler. If so, it would have caused some resistance for the running fan. If that is the case, maybe removing the second would give a more realistic result, don't you think?
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
I agree, would have been most accurate, but by a very small amount, as the air is already passing the fins. I may do the same again and compare the results in the comments.

hi there, i am having the same motherboard as you.. but using IOU radiator cooler and giving me high temp, and thinking of changing to U14s as well, just wondering whether it will block the RAM slot? all my slots are occupied (8 slots).thank you.

Perfectly timed video, thanks! I was just wondering what would happen if I put a 2nd fan on my Threadripper 3970x paired with the same cooler. I'll go get the brackets from the box right now and install an additional fan. Coincidentally, I have a spare Noctua fan lying around. Thanks again for the test and video, mate! 👍

Hello, do you know if I can replace the default fans with 2x Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM? the clips will fit?
@AlehandrosArhangelos3 жыл бұрын
I have exactly the same with an additional fan just like you, but on a 3960X. It is a beast, the sad part is that it blocks 2 ram slots, probably it is possible to go around it but my motherboard has 8 slots so yeah I most likely won't need those 2 unless I want to go as high as 256GB RAM. In my opinion the cooler should have come with 2 fans to begin with, these are meant for the threadrippers which cost a thousands, you wouldn't go cheap for just +20$ on an extra fan.
@Fryllish4 жыл бұрын
What is the ID of that second additional fan? I would love to use that use the same setup. :-)
Does the fan or the cooler come with extra mounting hardware to attach a second fan?
@adistu3 жыл бұрын
Noctua NF-A15 PWM is the extra fan !!!! this is what i came here for, google is crap at finding the extra fan serial name.

im looking for an Aircooler for my Threadripper 3960x and i'm confused how to get the dual Fan Version? i can only find the NH-U14S TR4-SP3 single fan Version?
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
Yes you purchase an additional fan to add to it.
@JaumeCabistany4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Amazing to see those results, but I wonder how did you get the dual U14S? Do you buy two of them? I'm setting up a 3970x and I'm totally going for this model but I find it as a single fan? Thanks!!!!
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
You just buy an additional fan and it comes with everything you need to get it fitted :-0

Thanks for the video. I have the same system "literally " except for the case that I have cooler master c700 black edition, and I'm not happy with the temp especially during the games, cpu goes to 78-85 degrees and it's not ok in my opinion... the room temp is ok all the time all other fans are corsair on the case , so I'm not sure with such a big case is it okey?

I feel it would be good to know what the ambient air temperature of the room was during the tests.

Ended up getting this Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 + extra fan and returning the Wraith Ripper after watching this video. I almost messed up keeping the Wraith. like @bgtubber said, perfect timing.

What fan splitter would I need to add an additional fan? Does the noctua nh-u14s come with a splitter?
@techable75244 жыл бұрын
Yes, one of the packages comes with a fan splitter I believe. Either the extra fan or the cooler.

Thanks for this. Good info. I ordered the newer corsair h150i pro xt for my 3970x. How do you think that'll fair? I'm using 3 noctua's on the radiator as well as 3 more noctuas for case fans. The corsair cooler now has the superior coolit instead of asetek with a slightly larger base. If all else fails, I will go with the noctua with 2 fans.
