In the ex-Fox News anchor's most in-depth interview since leaving broadcast television, Megyn Kelly sounds off on Donald Trump's attacks against her - and how they impacted Fox News and its then-CEO Roger Ailes.
In the run-up to the 2016 election, she says Ailes "wasn't ready to just lie down for Trump." But then "Trump would continue to grow in power, and I think Ailes would get a little bit more deferential to him."
Kelly also weighs in on the Obama years and speaks about Hillary Clinton - whom she says "enabled" her husband Bill's behavior. "...The woman who would go into office, if [Trump] lost, was no saint either..." she says.
This interview was conducted by FRONTLINE’s Michael Kirk on October 3, 2019, during our reporting for "America's Great Divide: From Obama to Trump,” a four-hour special series on how America’s current polarization came to be. It has been edited for clarity and length.

I agree with her in many ways, especially when she talks about how average people are NOT hyper-partisan and do not talk about politics or get outraged all the time. Most people are focusing on taking care of their families, doing a good job at work, having a laugh with friends, etc. Most people don't want to know if they're talking to a leftist, centrist or conservative -- guess what, a lot people still like other people for their CHARACTER, not politics. But the media narrative is always "WE ARE ALL DIVIDED." Ugh!

@Jerk Joker She's highly intelligent but has almost no insight into what's going on with people around her. Examples, she constantly deferred to others to gauge how well Trump was doing (she claims she isn't political but that's not what that is). She didn't comprehend that Ailes was a sexual predator until he literally had the door locked and his hands on her, etc. Kind of strange. It's like she sees only what she needs to see to advance her own interests. "Selfish" is as good a word as any for it.

@Giada_De_Low_Rent_Tits I think she took $78 million out of NBC for excellent reason. It was patently absurd to fire a journalist for such an innocuous comment about Halloween costumes. She's Gen X, and we don't relate to such hypersensitivity in our age group. Halloween has no relationship to oppressing groups of people in our minds. It's Halloween. It's not intended to insult anyone in any way. There are cases to be made for inappropriate costumes, but we grew up just having the freedom to choose to be something else on Halloween- at school. Halloween has been banned for years. I have two Millennial children and one Gen Z, and none of them were ever allowed to innocently experience Halloween the way I was able.

@@ouliu9305, what you said has turned out to be one of the most confounding facts of all!! The more separation divides us, the more opposing sides have in common. One side sets the FBI loose on Hillary chanting lock her up, and the other chanting impeach him now. Resulting in partiality of FBI to play both of them for fools. There's got to be a term for removal of all describing words in order to prevent needless bias when trying to reach least impartial decisions. In fact an app that my friends and I have been working on, could be worth the Nobel Peace prize if successful. For example when first hearing about a news story or incident that involves players representing separate sides. The words he and she, black or white or brown, police or criminal, teacher or student, Muslim or Christian, Republican or Democrat etc. Are removed in order to level the playing field. I mean look how kid wearing MAGA hat vs adult first Nation Indian facing each other on DC monuments steps was totally taken out of context.

@CONCERTMANchicago - Barry O wasn't a POTUS for all, it only seems like that for that myopic contingent of African Americans whose sense of entitlement leads them to behave like they are the majority and were the ones who established the Nation, and were disappointed that a slightly more pragmatic Barry O didn't go whole hog on board pushing their agenda, not grasping that it all would have blown up really quickly in their faces had he done so.

When Megyn Kelly says Obama care was shoved down their throat without majority support in the country, she must be talking about the country's republican politicians. It did have majority support among U.S. citizens. But Republican politicians don't always side with their constituents. They DO always side with their donors, and they did not support Obama care. It's an easy mistake for a republican to make, but it's a distinction I would like to point out.

He didn’t realize that he wasn’t supposed to actually get anything done in Washington,the cons always been to say or do anything to get there and just get rich. That’s the reason why no one in Washington ever wanted any ordinary citizens to actually find out what President Trump found out in his 1st term. So now that he knows the deal and he was cheated out of the Presidency in 2020, his win in 2024 will be so epic. Go Trump 2024!

I don’t agree, she clearly said, the unheard. ‘Not the Mitt Romney conservatives’, the folks that might be middle class, who by the way, pay the most in taxes. People are tired of career politicians, and while we’re at it, how about Term Limits, it’s outrageous these folks are 70+ and still hanging on to the power and money. You cannot be considered stupid when you oppose bad legislation (Obama Care) and the lies he told, re the health care. You are not stupid, when you clearly heard Ross Perot in 1992, explain the sucking sounds of jobs lost in the USA, due to NAFTA (Bill Clinton) ‘perhaps the worst trade deal ever made’. Did Bush, or Obama address NAFTA, nope...is Trump jumping in with both feet, and making changes, yes. Those people you refer to as stupid, are the ones most effected by these types of bad legislation. Good for Megyn to expose the truths, in the interview and in her career on Fox. She’s a intelligent motivated career woman, who is attempting to give journalism a good name. And journalism, seems to be getting lost in our country. ‘The stoking of outrage, is not journalism’.

Megyn's intelligence really comes through in this interview. One thing that stood out was her line about how 'it's a good thing that all those middle-class Americans' voices have been heard, after decades of being ignored'. I'm not sure if I imagined it, but I thought I heard the leftist interviewer sort of grumble at this, and I thought, wow, that's it, he thinks their views are just not legitimate and they shouldn't be heard. As Hillary put it , half of the country is 'deplorable' and their views are not worth understanding, because they're assumed to be 'racist', 'prejudiced', or 'out-dated'. Yet when you actually talk to a conservative you realize none of this is true- they usually win the debate, if it is allowed to take place and the leftist mob doesn't shut it down with their screaming and threats.

This is the definition of "cutting edge journalism", as advertised on TV. When a laser-like focus might be interpreted as the narrow view, this is an excellent research tool for disassembly of abstractions that relies on absolutely impartial Journalism to make a genuinely informative presentation, but if the audience is not interested in impartiality, then the presentation won't sell. "There's your problem". (Small government? Ie deregulation without balancing reregulation) The same mechanism applies to declarations of a final decision on a thesis that is forever ongoing, it automatically creates a half-truth without continuity. (Typically intentional bias methodology for selling stories, not a complete science type process, as you would expect commercially)

He’s right. When I moved back to the States I was stunned to see that the US has become like the Middle East: You can’t talk to a far right person about facts because they have their own “facts” which is their own reality. Obama born in Kenya? Fact. Area 51 is hiding aliens! Fact. The hard-line right always follows their leaders and parrot what they hear. Trump attacks the “mainstream” media? In 24 hours they all parrot what he says. I saw this in the third world, and was glad we didn’t behave like that. I was wrong. The RNC sends out talking points (they are really fun to read) and the next it’s like being in the Soviet Union, everybody goes on television and repeat the same words. You can see the Sunday talk shows and they read the party line: Mainstream media! No quid pro quo! Liberal politicians! Biden corruption! The mainstream media coverup! How can anybody with an ounce of pride or honor say things they no not to be true...

Always respectfully take into account what the opposition wants, no matter how many votes they got? It's only because Americans filibuster everything, that 60% is regarded as a slender majority. Also, she perpetuates the myth that Obama used more more executive orders than anyone else. He used less.

that's because Megyn Kelly is the most classy woman in journalism. I believe she's retired nowadays I think. but if any young people want to have a career in journalism I advise you to look to Megyn as a mentor. because I've listened to her over the years. she has had a few lows. but her highs are many in comparison. she's just great I will always Miss her on television.

this interview is shot beautifully! on the close up shots it looks like she's looking right at you (into the camera) but also just off camera, talking to the interviewer. I've always found Megyn an interesting person in the news business. She seems to (at least on air) mold her political beliefs with whatever network she's working for seemingly, but this interview is very raw in a way that I haven't seen before. Questions are critical thinking and she answered them as a journalist, not a Fox anchor. Brava

Space Cadet She wasn’t a good fit for NBC, but she had astronomical ratings on Fox. The whole “blackface” saga was completely overhyped...which is the typical MO of the liberal left.
@spacecadet2172
@spacecadet2172 4 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Olson Yes, her ratings were majorly down, compared both to the previous year for the same hour before she took over, as well as compared to competing shows on other channels. No matter what metric you look at, she was doing demonstrably worse. Google it, it’s all over the internet. The NBC brass wanted to fire her long before the blackface comments, because of her abysmal ratings. Megyn’s racist comments just gave them the perfect excuse to get rid of a low performer who was bringing the whole division down. It was two birds with one stone.

Unfortunately, she is just lying. That sure used to be her position and she was a great reporter, but she's unrecognizable now. I don't know what's happened to her in the last year but she's become a Republican shill - lacking all the objectivity she used to have. Just take a look at her Twitter feed.
