To clarify why some of these look cool: McMansions aren’t ugly homes, but massive single family homes *designed gaudily to LOOK like* European mansions, but pale in comparison. They’re kind of like an American version of the new builds phenomena, but for stately homes not middle class homes. Contrapoints discussed the concept of McMansions in relation to American aesthetics and class in the video essay “Opulence,” if you’re interested.

american mcmansions: cheaply made, largely pre-fabricated houses that were built in a cookie-cutter style fashion, typically making up an entire neighborhood of identical new builds. horrific. they surround all the cute, old, unique houses in my neighborhood as developers build and build and build without even having residents to fill them with. edit: most of these are not true mcmansions as they are not new builds nor are they identical to every other house nearby. but they are still bad in their own way.

Probably wanna chop away 25% or maybe more of the roots, I'm gonna guess it's pretty bound - Just don't hit the root ball. it will wilt for a bit after repotting, but will be so much happier in a few months. KZbins got some great videos. Good looking out Floss!

As someone who is a carpenter MOST houses that look horrible are designed by top ego interior designers, I personally have suggested certain ideas to houses that I have worked on to bring price down and fix the stupid ideas they have had ( ex: shortening the size of a wall so you can open a fridge past 30° angle where the wall just makes everything feel cramped anyway.) only to be told "you don't know what your talking about", then after a few months go by be hired again to fix the issue that I saw coming. My concern is to get the job done right the first time, not to get backed up on remodels because the owner wanted to feel fancy on a budget or spend stupidly massive amounts because they never use certain areas to justify the cost... Sorry ranted just sucks being someone having to rent see REALLY dumb house designs that drive cost way up for no reason.

I live in the desert so i understand gravel lawns, but if you live in a rainer area i can see grass being more acceptable and your right even with out grass a few plants and flowers is always a good idea because its not nearly as much water as a grass lawn.

It's all about flexing your wealth. If you have the money, you want to show the public that you are rich and don't care what normal people think. Also, marble floors is very typical for southern Europe, and also south America. But then it's there for practicality, because y'know... Marbled floors will cool the house down pretty well and southern Europe and south America can be pretty damn warm.

As someone who lives in the U.S Yeah a lot of suburb houses have like a nice facade in the front (like a flat plane of bricks or fake balconies) and then the back is entirely bare and not very nice to look at. Never saw it on the west coast tho, only east

My best friend's parents are kinda loaded. (However, I need to point out that my friend is very humble and down to earth.) When I first came over to their newly built house, my jaw almost literally hit the floor. Huge house, with a jacuzzi, grunge-style bar filled to the brim with an enormous assortment of booze in the big basement, home theater, several expensive cars, boat, a smaller "cottage" by the sea down the road, and my favorite: a disco-glittery bathroom with a red and black theme and a crystal light fixture in the ceiling (who has that in a bathroom?!). I always feel like an intruder whenever I visit.

I think the massive garage is an light aircraft hanger. I have seen houses with a wide road down the middle and the Man of the house goes to work in a light aircraft which they taxi on to the road then take off .

The cooler in the last house is probably there because they don't have good water from tap. We live just outside a small town in the USA and we have well water which we could drink but it isn't good so we have a cooler for drinking and cooking water. It would seem strange in the UK but the USA is different. I am a Brit who has been living in the states for more than a decade, because my wife is American.

I live in Ohio and I think at times of the year it’s a lot comparable to England except maybe slightly less rainy, a lot of clouds and such. Can get real warm during summer tho but I wouldn’t want to swim outside in spring or fall.
