Wow! And looking at your videos is like looking at a large Model railway layout.

I used to service the Cinema in Winnemucca for many years. I can honestly say the sunsets are incredible there...

This is a magnificent video of Amtrak's California Zephyr speeding along with the setting sun in Nevada, Dan! The drone footage in this video is breathtaking! Thank you for this video, Dan! (Posted on 27 September 2024 at 1322 CDT.)

Who says deserts aren't beautiful! So glad you captured this!!

I love visiting the desert! I admit I don't know how I would feel to live in a place like this but I never tire of visits to regions like this.

The golden hour lights are fabulous. Other the rolling hills in the background, this is a pretty flat area, therefore the train can fly here. I'm sure the passengers likes this route and enjoys the journey. Very nice aerial footage as always Dan.

Thank you Z! It is pretty dang wide open out there. The first shot I could see it coming for miles ahead of time.

In that opening scene, it looks like there used to be a passing track there at one time, or the line was shifted over just a bit. The ballast on the pulled-up segment looks more like "modern" crushed rock vs. the cinders or slag used as ballast in the first half of the 1900's. I don't see any other obvious roadbeds nearby, so I wonder if the bypassed segment is the original 1860's Central Pacific alignment. Just observing out loud. Another sweet treat from Dan's amazing drone. 🤠👍

Very nice. The band Southern Pacific has a couple of nice songs for this. One I think is called Pink Cadillac with bits like Reno Bound and a "rolling thru Winnemucca doing about 95" the best railfanning music.

Amazing shots, is the Mavic3 so much better that the Inspire2?
@TheRailfanDan3 ай бұрын
The ability to switch cameras on the fly and have different focal lengths is hard to beat. There are several things the Inspire 2 can do that the any Mavic version can't do but having the 3 cameras of the Mavic 3 Pro makes it hard to justify using anything else.

The headline is very misleading. The train is the Eastbound California Zephyr, so please avoid any confusion in the future. Before starting the playback, I looked hard trying to discover where you might have made the recording, to no avail.
@TheRailfanDan3 ай бұрын
Um... It says California Zephyr and the town of the region in the title and then all the info given in the first 10 seconds... 🤔

Very nice catch, Dan, the lighting is gorgeous. You mentioned the flaming stack at one point. That's the neat part of running and taking video at night - you catch things like that. I was running one night on the Eugene Hauler, headed south from Albany and looked back to see a barely visible blue flame coming out the stack of (I think) the second unit. Cool to see.

Thanks so much Lou! It was some spectacular lighting out there. Yeah no kidding I'm not sure I would have noticed that in the daylight. That's neat but hopefully it wasn't cause for concern for you at that time.
