People often ask why do the Lord's fathers die so often in FE. They usually don't know that Sigurd destabilized about a third of Jugdral, causing it to fall to Arvis' lap, while his father was alive.

What i love about sigurd is that he is both a deconstruction and a reconstruction of the white chivalrous knight in shining armor and who is without fear and fault. A deconstruction because his tendency to do what is right, save the girl, help the helpless and beat the bad guys is what give to granvalle the opportunity to invade half of the world and put the entire continent in total despair. But in the other hand, Sigurd virtues and unrelentless wil to do what is right is what gave birth to Seliph and inspired and entire generation of new heroes, who fought and triumphed against evil and give to FE4 one of the happiest ending of the serie. Without Sigurd actions and findind Deirdre, none of this would have been possible.

Sigurd actually had a funny recruitment exchange with Lex. Lex basically says “I’m I hear to help my best pal score and make sure he doesn’t die, if I gotta acknowledge your existence for 2 seconds to make that happen then whatever.” Of course Sigurd laughs this off and happily welcomes Lex, showing he’s humble and can be the butt of a joke.

Well Lex and Sigurd know each other a bit, I think it’s more a subtle reflection of who Lex is. In his only other conversation before this, he’s teasing Azel about his crush, but before that he picks him apart and pins down exactly who and why they’re there. In that conversation with Sigurd, he says exactly what Sigurd might not want to hear but Sigurd responds warmly anyway. In his conversation with Ayra where he gives her the brave sword, she sees him as having some sort of reputation as a womanizer or someone she generally wants to keep her distance from, but once alone he reveals his true self with the gift of the Brave sword as someone who truly cares for and understands those around him. Lex is honest and blunt (that’s how he got the Brave Axe), but he’s also great at reading people and the situation. This is especially shown off in Chapter 5, when he has no remorse or hesitation about killing his own father, but also a huge suspicion that something is going to go wrong. He almost has an outburst in the stress of it all with Tailtiu trying to get her to go away or even realize their fate, while with Ayra he knows that she won’t be convinced but tries anyway. When he realizes she won’t back down, he continues with her and Sigurd, knowing that he was gonna do that anyway and that he might as well stand with his wife to boot.

Sigurd is not only my favorite character in the entirety of the franchise, but possibly in all of gaming for simply having such a tragic tale be told at such an early time in gaming. He in my eyes is a a perfect example of a good guy protagonist who isn't immune from the control in the world they live in, something I feel we rarely see in games nowadays. I'll never forget the shock I had after experiencing the end of Sigurd's tale. It felt so strange yet inevitable upon seeing how it all ended. I really hope the rumors are true and an FE4 remake is on the horizon. The addition of support conversations and revamped gameplay would do this game wonders.

Sigurd is such a tragic hero. He's has everything going so well for him only for it to be crushed underfoot at the end of chapter 5. Good thing Seliph is the one to restore Sigurd's legacy and save the world at the end of FE4.

Sigurd is one of my favorite characters in the series not only because of his stats. He is genuinely trying to do good like the player but gets played by forces beyond their ability to control it’s a brilliant subversion and I imagine shocked most players at the time when it originally released. This is why I am begging for a remake because this is a game that needs a rerelease cause the narrative is too good to be stuck to just emulation or playing it in Japanese.

What could've been brought up regarding Sigurd relating to Chapter 4 is how the results differ to how he did in Agustria. Where in Agustria he conquered castles and left them undefended and unmanned, in Silesse he actually acknowledges his conquering actions as a potential issue whilst also making sure an elder took charge of Tofa castle as he's finished. Which is a nice indication that he's learning from his mistakes.

You know what's interesting thou? FE 4 and Song of Ice and Fire book 1 came out the same year and there is a surprising amount of similarity's between the two. They both heavily involve political intrigue and machinations, there main characters are both kind and honorable men in a cruel and dishonest world which ultimately leads to there deaths, the children of brother sister incest are a major plot point in both. Honestly If they didn't come out with in months of each other and in completely different languages I'd swear there was some inspiration being drawn there.

It’s not surprising both narratives drew inspiration from the War Of The Roses.(1455-1487). My guess is that the relation between the two properties is purely coincidental but cool nonetheless.

Sigurd got punished for doing the right thing over and over again, it was all worth it and it did work out in the end but you have to wonder if he could’ve prevented his demise if he did things differently. But then he wouldn’t be Sigurd, would he?

The dialogue with Seliph near the end of the game is really touching to me ; bc when you consider Sigurd FEH dialogues and Engage dialogues it really sounds like he doesn't even blame Arvis for what happened, or rather, he understands that he was pursuing his own idea of justice and it just makes sense with his character. He better than anyone understands good intentions bc he's never had any bad intention, just a terrible understanding of consequences. And him telling Seliph to never forget about the common man is the best way he could have put this in such few words. On the other hand, I feel Arvis feelings toward Sigurd aren't that different all in all. Like they barely interact with each other but they are good parallels. Arvis greatest strenght what Sigurd lacked : awareness of the political situation and awareness of what the life of the oppressed people is like. On the contrary, Sigurd's greatest strenght, empathy, kindess, righteousness was what Arvis lacked when he made the fatal mistake of trusting the Loptus cult ; most likely considering it a necessary evil. In that context it makes sense why Arvis made sure Seliph would have the Tyrfing before fighting him. Hell, it even shows in the game mechanic bc Seliph + Tyrfing is one of the few characters that can "easily" survive an encounter with Arvis (or I'm just bad at the game idk) I really hope Arvis gets more attention in the future. I feel like he's a tragic antagonist in the same way Sigurd's a tragic protagonist.

Nah, the loptyr church knew deirdre was there and it was only a matter of time before she got caught. Thanks to Sigurd she managed to be free a bit longer and they had Seliph, who saved the world.

I may as well update this incase anyone in the future is curious. Im on Chapter 4 right now and oh god 4 women are in love. None of them are "lovers" but they are in "love" according to the augury. Thats one step away from being Lovers so sadly, I will have to kill off Erin, Raquesis, Sylvia, and Aideen before the map ends. This will leave me with only 3 healers for Chapter 5, those being Taillte, Lewyn, and Claude. I am at Dithorba, one of the four Falcon Knights of Silesse. This is where my journey ends. Not really. Lex gets put to sleep but everything works out well and I stall to turn 50 and things work out. Until it doesn't and I have to replay the ENTIRE map again. Fortunately this one is somehow worse and much MUCH better. Lewyn gets put to sleep which is awful (Holyn too but eh) however every single one of Dithorba's Knights charge directly into a promoted Dew, which weakens them and removes their money from them. (Besides 2 who attack Midir and do like 7 damage because Midir is oddly tanky)

When you mentioned how the character writing in FE4 is efficient, it made me wonder if it's a little too efficient. What I mean is that is the character writing efficient to the game's detriment? I'm tempted to say yes if for no other reason than the cast is smaller than other games yet characters get about as much or less than characters of other games with bigger casts. This isn't to say that there's a mathematical formula for how much writing a character needs, just that some characters could've used a bit more.

In the game itself she don't really have a personnality other than being in love with Sigurd, even her feelings about being forced to live in the spirit forrest is only explored by the prism of her love for Sigurd. She is one of the worst fire emblem character to me. One manga tried to give her a personnality but it's not canon

Shanaan was already a hostage, Lewyn's home country was already undergoing a coup against his family with or without him, and to take Eldigan hostage he'd have to capture a man with a holy weapon alive. Unless you mean one of the Verdane guys in which case he'd already have started a millitary action to get there and he would have no guarentee they wouldn't respond in kind (And a horse, which by thracia rules makes it impossible outright but that's a silly gameplay rule that doesn't really apply)
