@@complte6440 Keep in mind the very last scene where Arthur's in a mental hospital; in an interview, the director claims that this laugh is the only real, genuine laugh the Joker gives out during the entire movie. I think most of us know that the Joker creates numerous past experiences in his head to imagine and sees them as jokes (In the dark knight, Joker had a new story every time he wanted to let someone know how he got his scars), and DC themselves have never confirmed a true origin story for the joker. Basically: We don't know how Joker really became Joker because Arthur's stories that he's lived in his head all seem like realities that he's gone through, so if the real Joker doesn't know how he became himself, how could anyone (including the audience)? So the director confirming that his only real laugh (I interpret it as 'real' meaning the only laugh that really occurred, NOT the only laugh that was 'genuinely funny' to Arthur) suggests that this entire movie may have just been another past life experience the Joker's tragic mind has created in his head. This is my theory and tbh the only hole I can find with it is that we see the Waynes' deaths, which Joker did not witness indicating that these events may have actually happened; However I think Joker witnessed everything we've seen (the audience + in a third-person manner) because he wants to create a perfect reality in his head. This may seem far-fetched and tbh this is the first time I've ever theorized about something so hopefully, maybe someone else has a better interpretation to this 'hole'. But I'd love for you all to let me know what you guys think! (Sorry again I'm not rly good at making these haha)

For me, this was the saddest scene. Arthur, or the small part of him that's left, realises that even now, no one cares about him; they just care about what they think he represents. He feels that the only way for people to even notice he exists is to become this monster. It's so sad that his life was so terrible that becoming the Joker was a better alternative than being Arthur Fleck.

Not really good and evil in this case, but more like... two broken people who had different problems in life that still led them down dark paths, one born with a mental illness who lost all support and abandoned reality, and one who was traumatized at a young age and used his anger and grief to take down the bad people instead of getting support. They both needed help, but instead they used their respective "gifts" (Joker's ability to dismiss reality and essentially trick the masses into thinking he was in the right by doing nothing at all (it does count as tricking, because you can indeed fool someone just by not saying anything), and Batman's money and youth to train and study to become the ultimate one-man-army crime fighter) to grant their desires; Joker to become the star he wanted to be, and Batman to become justice itself.

@@Vision-lz4ruLmao, not canon? People like you are missing the entire point of the sequel. The sequel explored the shadow of Joker that Arthur could no longer handle, which we also found out in the end that he wasn’t the “true” Joker that would become the great Rival to Batman, but rather the inspiration (in the ending). The sequel revolving around the idea of the shadow of Joker growing too large for Fleck to handle shows that it swallowed him whole as we saw in the end of the first movie and in the animated start of the sequel. The sequel is not as bad as people make it out to be. Within the context of the themes and symbolisms, it was a solid follow up. 6-7/10.

Many people here don’t seem to understand why Thomas Wayne would go out during protests against him. But it is already answered in the movie. By Arthur himself, *"You think men like Thomas Wayne ever think what it’s like to be someone like me, to be somebody but themselves, they don’t. They think that we’ll just sit there and sit like good little boys. That we won’t werewolf and go wild."* Thomas thought so little of the poor and middle-class people that he didn’t even consider them to be a threat. He didn’t consider the protest to be a big deal. Hence, he goes to the theatre and because of which he missed out on Arthur killing Murray which ended up causing riots. The riots that led to his demise.

What’s terrifyingly true about this scene is that there are people like Arthur everywhere in the real world, homeless, abandoned, misjudged and broken people that other walk all over and what do they expect them to do? Personally I connect deeply with this scene a lot, feeling betrayed and judged by others for a long time. To see a scene like this in cinema is like a rude awakening, even though none of us will become what the joker became, it’s nice to see him finally get what he wanted, acceptance from the society that abandoned him.

@@ChrisValera That doesn't make sense contextually with the rest of the scene. He was convincing Harvey that he wasn't the enemy, and that Rachel wasn't intentionally selected to die. This was a lie, but his point stands that chaotic action is fair. A car could swerve into you headon at any time and end your life. Why did the car pick you? It didn't. The driver had no agency over who died, he just put the wheels in motion. No pun intended. He sparked chaos and the universe took the wheel.
