The ending is the joke. His lawyer actually won the case and proved that "Joker" was another personality of his and therefore the one who committed the crimes, which is why he was admitted to Arkham Asylum. Joker took over him and now he will come out as the Clown Prince of Crime.

My favorite theory is that this scene takes place several years into the future, notice how Arthur looks slightly more grizzled and older and this is when the Joker realizes who Batman is. The ultimate punchline

He was forcing himself to smile because that’s what people wanted. (His psychiatrist, his co-workers, everyone). He was misunderstood and mistreated because he wasn’t smiling (happy). At the end, he was finally happy because he no longer cared what made others happy, he started to care about only what made him happy, so he no longer had to force the smile.

I love the switch from the gritty, dark, streets and sad, droning, violin to the sunshine and That’s life playing. He is no longer a sad little man being pushed around. Now he is an up beat psychopath having the time of his life. It’s terrifying. You almost feel happy for him finding happiness, but it’s at the cost of numerous lives and Arthur turning into a monster.

@@JackTheAviator He got his pay docked because thugs stole his sign. The man he thought might be his dad immediately brushed him off and punched him when his laughing fit kicked in. A late night TV host made fun of him in front of millions of people. He was assaulted by 3 men and had to shoot one in self defense (The other 2 were straight murder IMO.) And he was left without any support for his mental illness by the city despite being previously institutionalized. I obviously don't agree with the Joker as I am a sane and rational person, but if you don't believe he wasn't pushed around by society you are either trolling or painfully ignorant.

Then his promo pictures came out and i was like WTF is this. He blew me away with this movie. It took several bad days to make this Joker snap. Beaten up on the job, losing his job, getting assaulted on a train which lead to a self defense/execution, getting rejected by his supposed "father", discovering his mother was never truly his mother while also being responsible for his mental scars and conditions, and then discovering his love interest was never his due to delusions. Imagine actually cramming *all that* into one day.

Marvel has Deadpool which is the biggest anti-hero known in comics. The Joker is only a good villain if Batman is involved in some capacity otherwise a story without Batman with the Joker is meaningless. Even this movie had to have Bruce Wayne in it to prove that point. While I am a DC Comics fan I will not ignore the success of the MCU which are more popcorn flicks and two or three thought-provoking films that can be half as interesting as a DC film. Also the MCU never had a film bomb as hard as Batman and Robin. I don't understand why we have to always compete, but if people are going to compete they might as well look at the sales proving themselves. Joker is an underrated achievement, but can it continue to follow up more money like the MCU has with their movies.

Guy says-- hahaha-- guy says, well, if you rode through the Siene at midnight with your mother on tap, I'd be asking YOU! *descends into fits of laughter* -- Arthur, I don't.... understand.. -- I told you you wouldn't get it. -- Can you... explain it to me? -- No. I'm tired. I want to lie down on my cot now. *Psychiatrist calls for his escort. Ponders his words, shakes her head quizzically. Goes to the staff lounge and asks the other doctors if she can run a joke by them. They listen quietly. She gets to the punchline. One doctor burps but other than that it's silent, and tbh, that one doctor has a history of inappropriate burping so no one bats an eye. Psychiatrist says do any of you get that joke? They all say no. Then one asks if anyone wants to try his wife's new berry cobbler recipe and they all are like oh wow, that sounds amazing. The camera pans out as they are getting plastic forks and napkins. The End. To be honest I can see why they went with another ending.

@@dillyc_11 Hey, DillyC. Thanks for asking. I haven't had the chance, yet. Do you know if it's out on video yet? I want my grandson to watch it with me, so I won't get scared, lol. In Batman comics when I was a kid, the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents was unknown. Jack Nicholson's Joker was the first Wayne killar that I knew of. I didn't like the Joker being killed off in that movie, and I didn't like the other Michael Keaton Batman movies, either, so I didn't watch. another Batman until the Batman-Superman movie, and I liked it pretty good 👍. I was gonna watch the Heath Ledger Batman, but after reading comments for "That's Life" I decided to skip Heath. It's been hard to take in all the changes in the DC Universe. Like that Lex Luther is not a mad scientist, but the evil head of a global corporation, and he still had his hair. In Superboy comics, Lex Luther was a well known teenaged do gooding genius. At a science exhibition, Superboy accidentally spilled chemicals on Lex, and it burned off his thick red hair. Lex got pissed off and turned evil, lol. Sorry, didn't intend to write a novel. I think I'll like it and I will let you know. What did you think about it?

Dave English It’s available on ITunes and on other platforms I believe. The physical Blu-ray copy had already released last month so I recommend that you buy one. Also this movie shares no similarities or connections with the comics or the DC film universe, it’s completely separate and tells its own unique story. Joker in this film is also extremely different to how he is usually portrayed in the comics and tv shows, but it still is an excellent film.

The laughing scene is so unnerving for me. His portrayal of an individual with mental health who just lost it and is in his own mind is spot on. I work for a mental health facility and I had a kid who was scitchzophrenic and he would go on laughing tangents while smoking his cigerette to the very last inch left besides the filter. I'd often ask what he was laughing at and he would just say "nothin". People who are in their heads so much often do not feel like going the extra effort of explaining what is going on. This scene was intense and acurate to say the least. Bravo.
