Thank for the mention, I laughed when you wanted the mission text window to auto resize, when the game started we didn't even have a seperate window for missions and quest dialogue it was all in the single window vicinity chat and if someone randomly started talking while you were talking to the NPC it broke the quest dialogue and you'd have to start over lol. Like I posted on the previous video AO's 14 years after launch afterthought tutorials will not really teach you how to play the game, ( except the hard really really hard way ) there are great guides on Anarchy Online Universe and also my own video guides.

Great production! It has vastly improved! I like how when you compare a feature in another game, you show a brief glimpse of that game in video. That’s great to highlight the similarity so players can identify and connect to the game. The more you play this I get Deus Ex vibes and thus get more interested even though this isn’t my typical genre I play in. Great video looking forward to many more.

Thank you for noticing Plaximos! That one area of polish is what is taking me longer to finish videos, yet I'm hoping it results in better satisfaction in viewers moving forward. :) AO is a gem; the more I play it, the more I love it. It's not so different than PG in many ways. In some, sure -- it's totally opposite, yet in some, it's eerily familiar.

This game was my entire childhood. We would play it non stop. I started in 2001 and now its 2022 and I am 32 lol. I remember the first expansion pack was released (Shadowlands) and it was through a subscription and I couldnt afford it so my uncle bought it for christmas. He bought my first yalmaha also because it was super expensive back then. We played a lot during my childhood and I still play it today. Many memories through this game. Probably a lot of nostaglia too. But the fact this that this game was way ahead of its time.

The roadmaker of MMO era for sure. ​Fun fact from the class you played (bureacrat), they can also buff team experience by some % making them quite popular in teams. All Anarchy Online classes are quite unique and Funcom made it so all would be unique and viable in groups. However they never lock you into skills like other games. You can build your toon any way you want. And through since the skill tree is so huge you can have fun at pretty much any level through "twinking". :) Thanks for posting such an awesome video. Earned a new sub!

Played this game for years, but it died when sh#t when down at funcom, And this area was created after all of this by other people. Thats why most of the things dont make sense at this start area .. I mean the backyards were the original start areas, then all made sense.. After that they created an alien island start area which was okay and made good. Then we got this place .. its okay but you can tell its not made by the people that created the rest off the game. This game was so ahead of its time and amazing to play, but it died years ago and the servers are barely being alive but a couple people running alot of accounts.

I wish I played AO during the backyard period. I first played when the crash landing on the island was introduced; while a less directed experience, it felt like a generally better sandbox representation of what AO provides players. 💖

@@MarleMMO vanilla ao and Notum wars was epic, after that it went downhill, shadowlands was good as long as you liked the endless farming off mobs. The release of world of Warcraft back then made anarchy online lose alot of players, because people wanted a more story based mmorpg. But funcom tried to provide more of that aswell on a later note with their expansions. But it didn't really get what the players wanted. After a time the game started dying because of this and because the game was old and outdated it was so easy to hack/cheat which made them lose more players. At some point hell went lose at funcom and eventually some rich player bought this game up. Ever since there's no real support or updates or anything. Also the hackers got a free run because noone cared or really worked for this game anymore. I personally played ao since release and let me tell you, this game had so many players, an amazing player base to be honest. The Devs put so much into this game and for back in the day this game was just ahead of anything. I had so many hours.. no days.. no years into this it never got bored. These days it's not worth playing it, 2 of the 3 servers shut down, and the server that's still live doesn't have much players left, the once that do play are always multiboxing making it look like there are more people, without having multiple accounts it's almost impossible to do group/raid based things.. and I can keep going on... I mean if you have nothing else to do this game might be cool to play for some time, but the players made the game, and without the players it's just.. well like how it is now. I heard that the game is getting some small changes time by time, just no big once because noone that run this game actually knows the game script and how it works. (It's old). I just wish this game would have moved on with the time and the rest didn't really happen.. I bet this game would still have alot more of its player base and fun to play.

Anarchy Online will always have a special place in my heart, but the learning curve is a bit steep, but when you over come it, it is rewarding. You can really twink in this game, get QL200 Armor on a L60 toon is just one trick. The age is showing, so if you want that smooth polished looking game, maybe not for you, but if you like the math of how to get stuff equipped you really shouldn't and hours of grinding (yeah well you are here for mmo, so you must like that part :)) then this is for you.

I played Anarchy a hell of a lot in the few years after it released. Looking back, what the hell was I thinking? It's not a bad game, perse - but desperately needs MANY QOL changes.

It is an old classic MMO! Despite it aging, it in fact has several QoL features many modern MMOs don't, such as: * Quest sync state automatically. * Automatically required loot if a quest item (even if your party member killed the foe). * Tells/whispers automatically open a window to ensure they're never missed. * MASSIVE inventory. 💖

Anarchy Online.. is it new 😏 I love this game for the past 15 years, Funcom didn't really care for the game. The older version of the game was better in many ways. They 'upgraded' the game engine after several years of saying they'd do it, and ended up disenfranchising their player base. Investing in a lego game, Conan Exiles (Don' look at the frustrations that people found with The Secret World becoming free to play and them offering a cash bundle pack a few months before) drained any chance that AO would receive proper love.

Is there a way to start on the Island? This is where I started eons ago and loved it! I went on to build a pretty strong toon... but I tried to start again a couple years ago and was just totally disheartened by this new start area... its a joke... its almost as if they want to keep new players out the game lol.

Based on my understanding, unfortunately, no -- you cannot start on the island. However, I seem to recall someone mentioning that the island is still accessible although I am uncertain how. 💖

I think you're a little harsh on this game. This game is post ever-quest and pre-WoW. Conan Exiles is probably the best version of a Funcom MMO at this point.

@@MarleMMO yes exactly. The game has a learning curve and in typical old school MMO fashion a lot of things have to be figured out the hard way. There are profession guides on places like aouniverse that tells you each profession gear etc. . Crats are also good at crowd control. Mezzing enemies etc but its one of the more difficult classes to play at early game ( easy to die) you can reset your IP if you take off all gear

The color of the skills let's you know which are cheap for your profession the pistol skill font should be green ( cheapest skill) then light blue ( a bit more IP) to dark blue ( most expensive skills) if I remember correctly crats were also a IP suck early game. I haven't played in a while but I do have max level froob characters still as well as paid accounts I remember a good especially the starting grind. Getting to 60 is pretty quick n fun when u know the ropes.

While I used to love this game it fell off after it entered permanent maintenance mode… Elder Scrolls Online basically fulfilled all my needs of what I liked about older mmos but still receives regular updates every 3 months. Hated ESO at launch but what it became was like the ultimate still-traditional gameplay styled MMO

@@MarleMMO Complexity of having skill points matters and leveling individual skills as well as making loot meaningful/matter and getting surprisingly good loot drops every now and then no matter what content you participate in. The big focus on trading and tradeskill/craft type stuff which leads to having a strong community since you need to interact regularly with others to improve your characters. Exploring and dungeons are extremely rewarding similar to how AO had chests/barrels/etc in dungeons that had to be lockpicked there's similar stuff in ESO dungeons and they aren't always in the same locations so you gotta keep your eyes peeled and call out those chests to your teammates. It feels very traditional in gameplay despite having many modern QoL features like fast travel, level scaling and so on, allowing you to do missions in any order and not level locking stuff kind of makes the game better in my opinion though. You don't have 30 skills on a skill bar at once but the 12 skills you do have slotted all matter and rotations are important like in traditional MMO type games, just with no cooldown on any of the skills (aside from the ultimates) and animation cancelling, so there's still high layers of skill in combat just spread out differently. It feels like they still develop in a way that is meant to emulate traditional gameplay but it's got a more modern feel/touch to it and not one that's unwelcome at all in my opinion.

@@MarleMMO I think at one point I was just always chasing for the next thing like AO once it entered maintenance, for a little while it was phantasy star online 2 but when new genesis dropped it got rid of everything similar to AO that it had, gave me more time to delve into other stuff and I found ESO and ended up sticking with it. My final meaningful comparison would be the time investment it takes, if someone is max level with good gear, a fast mount and has good crafting skills then they've spent at minimum like 9-12 months improving their character, I remember in AO I maybe never actually hit level 200 because it took a long time but each level still felt meaningful and progressing further in the game had stuff you could show off to show that fact too, ESO has that kinda feel still whereas other games are a rush to endgame in like 8 hours or something.
