I have friends who used to work for home depot and were in the Army reserves. Home Depot not only happily gives them time off for their duties, when one of them was sent to Afghanistan for a year, he got his annual raise. He's now a store manager for HD, and says he'll never leave because they treat him so well.

@@dingoatemychild1 actually, HD is a great place to work. They’re pretty flexible. I’m a single mom, and I got a call during work from my son that our basement was flooding. The manager on duty let me go home, saying family comes first and if I needed anything, just call. They’ve got a lot of great programs you can take advantage of, such as investment counseling, education grants, their own “university”. If you’ve heard opposite, then it may be the employee, not the employer.

Military members can get out of a home/apartment rental lease with zero penalties if under orders to move.
@aliquot84043 жыл бұрын
Another right I did not know, but also entirely reasonable. I am curious, though, if the clause might not make some landlords less willing to lease to members of the military?
@Mewse12033 жыл бұрын
@@aliquot8404 that one depends. In general the US Federal government doesn't have a provision banning military status discrimination in the Fair Housing act. However, state and local laws do have those provisions. I can't tell you which do or don't or whether it is 100% through all states(which I don'tthink it is), but there are states who ban Military status discrimination for rentals. I also don't know for sure that you have to DISCLOSE your status until you have to break your lease.

Story 3: Under qualified leadership will always take credit for the work they knew nothing about. I've only walked away from one job. In my head, Lee Greenwood's 'Take this job ...' played and I had what could qualify as a shit-eating grin. I was acting as an admin and a housing authority application expert. My last day, in order to appear benevolent, the CEO said to hte room that I was only a call away. I stood up announced they would have to pay me my contract fee of $200/hr. No one in the office really understood my responsibilities. But it gets better, I finally got my last check, instead of the depositing it in my bank account I went to the bank the check was drawn on. Not a penny was in that account. Called my old CEO and was shunted to the former nanny then 'office manager'. She wouldn't put me through, me cell was on speaker while I'm standing in the bank lobby. I'm on speaker at the bank, there seems to be no money in the account they cut for my salary and vacation. They had 5 mins to get the money in the account before I would go to the Employment Commision. Wouldn't you know, the CEO was on the phone with the promise the money would be deposited the next day. The entire lobby made derisive snorting sounds. It was a miracle that all the sudden the money was available. I still reported the company to the Employment Commision. Never piss off the person who knows where all the dead bodies are. I learned a lot about business and human nature with that job. They closed their doors and had an active fraud investigation with in six months. I'm not normally a vindictive person, but if you screw around with my pay and dump other uselesss employees duties one my plate, you should probably run and find a hole to hide in. The parental units background included intelligence agencies. I am always amazed by the stupidity of others. In a year, I moved out of the state never to hear from the cruds again.

Oh kitty story? Hell yeah I want to hear it
@zitronentee23023 жыл бұрын
@@tabithavanderpool418 long story , prepare so its starts and ends funny it starts with my dad going out to a hardware store for nails. he comes back with a flyer and a picture of a black fluffy kitten with the text " do you want me ? " so naturally , despite him saying we wont get another animal , grabbed the whole flyer to eliminate potential rivals for the cat. so only he calls ( wonder why ) and he got the kitten. male , black and fluffy. Ferdinand the 3rd ( there where no 1st or 2nd , but "THE 3RD " sounds more important) . So we have a Kitten now , all is fine. the doc also confirms , Ferdinand is a male. Fast forward 2 years, we didnt snip him because we where the only ones with a cat in the surrounding area ( so we thought) Ferdinand "pees" on mums pillow one morning and SURPRISE 3 Kittens. (the fluff consealed the pregnancy ) So Ferdinand was actually a Fernanda , so we just kept the nickname Ferdi. I loved all the Kittens and early on i asked if i can keep one. No. i asked again . maybe. i asked again . ok you annoy me you can keep one. yes! so we went to work, looking for good homes and found one for the first Kitten. All is well. I named my Kitty Kümmerling, because she was so small ( later found out its also the name of booze , so there is that). Then my dad informs me , that he has a home for the REMAINING kittens. and informs me that he will give away the other kitten AND kümmerling, because the dude he talked to wanted 2 Siblings. 3 Days , i have 3 Days to come up with a plan. First i throw a tantrum like a 6 year old because my heart is clinging to this damn cat. Mind you i am 20 at this point. i am SO DAMN angry. I annoy my dad so much with my attitude that at one point he just shouts back " DO WHAT YOU LIKE !!! I DONT CARE!!!" and thats my start signal. I phone the animal clinic one town over " hey , you have a board where people post kittens that are for sale ? yes? good. does it say how old the kittens are? are they grey black striped? gimme that number !" So i phoned them, asked if they have a grey black kitten available. yes they do. so i say i take that kitten i am at their door tomorrow by noon. i have no orientation skills , but my dad has. so i inform him that he has to navigate me to them so i can get a "backup kitten" and thats the moment he realized he raised a mastermind xD "you are crazy. you want to get another kitten so you can keep Kümmi? thats crazy." me: " you said i can do what i want . and i want to keep Kümmi and now get in the car and move old man. we have a kitten to collect" So we went and got a "Stunt"-Kitten to replace Kümmi in the upcomming trade. One day before the deal we brought him home and i kept kümmi in my room to hide her xD my mum just said " you told her she can do what she wanted. we knew what we where in for. we raised her. you didnt think that would go as smoothly as you thought , do you?" at this point my dad laughed every time he saw me with Kümmi the other 2 Kittys are best friends now and life their best life :) And thats the story how i kept Kümmerling. Who is the best Kitty in the world, but i might be biased.

You pronounced USERRA correctly. It is the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994. It basically says that employers cannot discriminate against members of the United States Uniform Services. Things like refusing to give reservists time off for their required drill, or firing them for attending the required drill. Unrelated, but still a funny story, I have a friend who is a major in the United States Air Force. At one point he was part of a team working on the development and procurement of a thin classified weapon. He had to travel under orders using commercial air travel. He was carrying with him the printed specifications for the classified weapon that he was working on. One of the TSA security individuals stopped him and demanded that he submit to a search. The TSA has no legal authority to search members of the US military that are traveling under orders, but those want to be Nazis don't bother to check with their legal authority is and it's usually not worth arguing with them so most of us didn't. My friend however decided to have some fun with the TSA guard. When the guard attempted to look through the technical information for the weapon system that was under development my friend told him that he was not allowed to read those documents. The TSA guard objected saying he could do whatever he wanted. My friend politely informed the TSA official that the documents were classified, that the TSA guard did not have clearances to read those documents, that my friend would turn each page so that the individual could verify that they were in fact paper, but if the TSA guard was to so much as read one word on any single page then my friend would have the two gentlemen in the corner with machine guns (this was in 2002 and there were national guard members guarding all airports) arrest him. The TSA guard didn't give my friend any more trouble.

If you get a bad conduct discharge (BCD aka the big chicken dinner) or a dishonorable discharge you cannot work at any company that has a DOD (dept of defense) contract. This means that you cannot work at any fast food chain that has a presence on a military base (e.g., McDonalds, BK, etc.). Moral of the story, don’t f*ck up in the military, it could literally ruin your life. Granted, it would require a serious crime to get one of these types of discharges. Edit: in case of confusion, when I say, you cannot work at a fast food chain, it means anywhere. You cannot work at the company period, because they have a contract with the military.

I may not be pro-military action in the VAST majority of circumstances but I fully support anyone's decision to dedicate their life to a cause as great as protecting ones country literally at the risk of life and limb every second their within reach of someone who wish's them harm... which will be broken up by weeks or even months at a time of being bored out of your skull if things are going well on your countries warfronts. Thank goodness first person shooters exist, you can only ship out entertainers so often and I'd imagine actual target practice and other exercises just become a routine after a while. As soon as I realized exactly what story one was about I the little devil on my shoulder started whispering "please let their be some sort of light to midlevel treason/treason adjacent charge for that!", I see nationalism as not only a destructive but outdated control mechanism and exhibit libertarian tendencies... but come on, if that's not a time to charge someone with light treason what is lol!?! The only thing I'd tell a kid to question before joining a military is "Will you support your country and it's leaders decisions sufficiently in five years to simply see the sacrifice of your life and sanity followed up by most likely being abandoned by said leaders and country as being worth it?" I know it's a high standard, but for things that could affect the rest of your life so drastically I think a high standard of certainty is called for. Also there's a startlingly large risk of being assaulted by another service member, and they've been pretty slow to deal with that sort of thing.
