The whole mold adds the structure and it gives stability which is why they are made that way. 444 so much love. Everything is usually made a certain way for a reason and you will notice removing them from the original state that the mold came from will be so much easier.

Heya, When using the alcohol ink it makes the resin go down a bit. This is why you have the sharp edges, what you could do is when it is a bit more cured to fill the rest of the mould up. The coasters came out great 👍

If you spray a mould release into the moulds before you start, make sure you use a non-silicone based one... lovely pieces in the video :)

I have made probably close to 30 attempts on this technique. They always end up with the white sinking down as it should however it doesn't pull much of the ink color with it. I always get a good number of stratians from the ink however the white just pulls a tiny bit of the color down with it, I can't seem to get the bright bold beautiful stratians like a you! I'm not done trying yet! Thank you for sharing! I think I've watched this video 5 or 6 times in the last year and a half. Thank you!

Harshita, its so funny that nails are a contention here (I myself was distracted and I’m an artist of 35 years, lol). I once asked a man-a very worldly one, I might add-if men actually really liked long decorated nails, or if it was just a push from the nail industry. He thought a minute and said, ‘don’t notice them unless they’re on my back, and then I can’t see them.’ 😂 nice video....a note: patience is a virtue...and might save you some money on molds😉. 💞

Hay I noticed you said latex gloves. For dealing with hardcore stuff like that try nitrile disposable gloves. We use them for spill clean up at a shipping company. Latex brakes down easier so not as strong. You look like you had no issues, but if you deal with anymore noxious chemicals, might want to invest. Just a friendly heads up. And the video is great. Looking into starting to do resin molding for fun. Great info especially for beginners looking into it like me. Keep rocken

I work with resin as well. I do 3D resin art pieces with acryilic painted images in the multiple layers of resin. If you wait the full 24+ hours your resin pieces don't stick to the silicone molds like that because the more pliable the resin, the tackier it is. If they are solid, they pop right out. Another thing that affects the resin is overworking it with a torch or heat gun. Quick shots to the middle should work just fine. Also, an Exacto knife works beatifully to trim the sharp edges. Beautiful pieces though.
@elyssaberger59016 жыл бұрын
Melissa Rhodes totally agree about not moving the torch to the sides and keeping it in the middle. Especially with alcohol ink which is heat sensitive. I think that’s what’s making it still for you. Great job though!

See I have the same problems with my molds sticking like yours did. I've watched other people's videos and I wonder if it is because I am to heavy handed with the torch. You used yours like I do and the others I watched, that didn't have the sticking issues, just use the torch quickly to the center mostly. I know that my resin comes off of the plastic I have covering my table unless I torch it and I see the plastic slightly shrink. hmmmmm I will have to test. These look awesome. great job
@AnniesArtStudio6 жыл бұрын
I will try this. Someone told me as well that it might be the heat
@Godsown10006 жыл бұрын
You are very correct. Overworking the resin with a torch makes it behave differently. The resin actually self-generates heat as it starts to really cure but not to the extent that it will push out any bubbles; in fact, it traps them in place.

@AnniesArtStudio6 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I’ve only tried alcohol ink
@rtsyfrtsy9246 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. The gold ink Annies Art Studio used has mica in it, so just alcohol and mica might float on the surface like her gold did. I've made my own alcohol "ink" before by harvesting the ink out of sharpies, it works great on porous surfaces like paper or wood, but on a harder surface it needs a clear coat or it wipes right off. but for this project it would be encapsulated in the resin so that shouldn't matter. The pigment in the white ink is titanium dioxide, I'm sure you have some of that. It's a very heavy pigment, so that's why it pulls the color down. I use the highest concentration of alcohol I can find locally..97%...I'm not sure but I think that 3% water content will cause problems...water makes for cloudy resin. I do think it's worth experimenting with on a small scale though, in much smaller molds.

I use ArtResin as well (no videos on it yet, but maybe hopefully I’ll make an art channel someday!) so I know it takes 72 hours to fully cure. It seems like you were able to get the piece out with no problems, but I bet it would come off really easily if you were willing to wait longer than 24 hours for a cure. I know it’s really hard to be so patient!! To anyone reading this, I would highly recommend ArtResin for beginners-you are right that its pot time of 45 minutes is very forgiving, and allows you to explore lots of different techniques that wouldn’t be possible with other resins. I’m a USA viewer, so I’ve never purchased the similarly-named Resin4Art from the UK, but that seems to be a rough equivalent. ArtResin also contains no VOCs, so you don’t have to wear a respirator if you don’t want to... although if you’re using it every day, more than just a one-time thing, it probably couldn’t hurt. And I would still recommend gloves because resin has the consistency of honey, and it WILL. GET. EVERYWHERE. (Also, yes, don’t torch your pieces too much, because that is the one way ticket to a wrecked silicone mold. Ask me how I know! 🙃) You can also stir the alcohol ink in if you wanted solid-color tinted resin, and I’m looking forward to trying to use alcohol ink to tint the other kind of resin I use, Amazing Casting Resin (10 minute pot time, cures opaque white). If anyone has used alcohol ink with Amazing Casting Resin before, let me know if/how it worked!

What is it within the white that makes it heavier? I really wanna know and ive asked so many people and get no answer. The alcohol ink kit I got has 2 White's.. Also Another Idea try using some pure alcohol to move the colors rather than the white Think of if you have a jar of water with oil floating on top and you put in a drop of Dish washing detergent on it the dish washing detergent will move the oil around in different ways That would be the same as pure Alcohol In Australia we can get it from a chemist ( Drug Store?) relatively cheaply like $5.50 aud per 500ml and you would only need drops per project Art the way to release ones creativeness ! And another thought you could maybe make to order shapes to be used in a stained glass window ..... Assuming the resign would handle sunshine but inside on a lamp shade ... or something back lit with led lighting for example Tony
@KaileyB6166 жыл бұрын
Moondyne .Joe all resin yellows in direct sunlight, most of it badly. Also, alcohol ink is not at all lightfast- meaning, the color fades, and sun is just going to make it worse, faster
@KaileyB6166 жыл бұрын
Moondyne .Joe also clear alcohol is not going to push the colors down like white alcohol ink does. The white is the heaviest, and that’s why it sinks- also the white makes the colors more opaque, so you can actually see them in the resin

hello, i am having trouble with air bubbles on the edges ,what can i do ,you cant torch the inks, can you help me with that, its not the bottom its the top when in the mold
@raecyrulik93593 жыл бұрын
I use a small handmixer that puts less bubbles in the resin. I also heat it with a heat gun in a silicone mixing bowl, then let it sit for 3 - 5 minutes. I pour & let it sit again for another few minutes. If I STILL have bubbles I will LIGHTLY (as in flick the torch on & off) over the MIDDLE of the resin. The reason her edges stick is she's using too much heat from the torch & it's melting the resin to the molds. Lesson learned the hard way! :) Hope this helps!

@AliceNsWonderland5 жыл бұрын
One thing that might work is to go back to your project, maybe 45 minutes or so after you've done your main alcohol inking and add a few drops around the outside edge. It likely will not have the same effect as the alcohol ink with the stratians down thru the piece bc it's when the white pulls the colored ink down that it pulls the top coat of ink in and through the center. If you're just looking for ink to cover that area, you could wait for it to cure a bit before putting some extra ink on. You could also do a glossy black layer of resin once the piece is finished for a different look that would make the colors totally *POP*
