The difference in yolk color has to do with the diet of the birds. If you get pasture raised chicken eggs, they are orange. That's because they don't eat just grain, they eat grass seeds and grasses, bugs, etc., a more natural diet, not dictated by man. They are healthier!

I was eating three egg whites almost daily, fried in olive oil with fried onions and bell pepper and some fajita seasoning...sometimes on toast, sometimes on a salad. But in that time my kidney function jumped 25 points from and EGFR of 59 to an EGFR of 84. My creatinine went from 1.1 to .9. This was in a 6 month period. The next 6 months (after I got the all clear) I slacked up and ate more red meat...my cholesterol went high and my EGFR dropped to 73. So I am going back to my old way of eating that included eggs and cheese (not the highly processed stuff...real cheese) but I limited milk to almond milk unsweetened.

Plant-based diets come with their own challenges: Anti-nutrients. Examples include: Glucosinolates/goitrogens can prevent the absorption of iodine, which may then interfere with thyroid function. Lectins in legumes, whole grains-can interfere with the absorption of calcium, iron, phosphorus, and zinc. Oxalates can bind to calcium and prevent it from being absorbed. Phytates (phytic acid) can decrease the absorption of iron, zinc, magnesium, and calcium. Saponins can interfere with normal nutrient absorption. Tannins can decrease iron absorption. It makes it very difficult, to not only know, what to eat, but how much and when to eat it. And, what can be combined with what! I've decided, at this point in my life, to eat a balanced diet and stay away from processed and sugar-laden items.
@lucez2058 ай бұрын
I think I just give up. After watching this and many other podcasts on what is good and what is bad for us and what interacts with what and like you mentioned the iron and tannin and so on, it is just getting pathetic. I think a good start would be to stay away from processed foods, sugars, and seed oils as much as possible and use everything else in moderation. That way you are not putting all your money in one account should the worst happen. I think that in short term each diet might be beneficial if that's what ppl decide to do but long term might not be sustainable. Good to do own bloodwork at least to check for basic levels but that's about it. Ppl will get sick by stressing out what they can and cannot eat.

He was a tough old war hero! :P I think he lived so long because he quit smoking back when it was 50 cents a pack, because "It got too expensive." He also rarely drank alcohol. Then take my 60-year-old dad who has smoked since he was 16, has diabetes, eats the same kinda stuff as grandpa (maybe a bit better variety), drinks more water, but he's getting cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. My dad drank like a fish from his youth up until he was about 50.

Eggs are a prime source of nutrition. Especially if you eat a plant-based diet. If you avoid processed foods and soda, that's the first thing you can do for your body. Second, never use sugar. Only fruit occasionally, but beware of fructose. Use only virgin olive oil with high polyphenol content along with long chain EFA omega 3 fatty acids. Short chain plant based omega 3 is also good as it can compete with the precursor of sc EFA omega 6. In such a diet, you can safely consume eggs daily.❤

I don't recall that they mentioned many of the specific food types, but Japanese on a traditional diet also eat fish, natto, tofu, miso and some white rice. They eat very little sugar. I shared my apartment with Japanese people in the 1980's and I can say that they ate very little sweets, the main one being rice crackers, which to us are hardly sweet at all. One of the researchers credited their longevity to the milk they were drinking. It was probably a much healthier milk than what we have today, maybe raw, and without hormones. It makes sense, because older people are often very deficient in calcium which is such an important mineral. The eggs too were giving them a great source of complete protein. I would also emphasize a relatively low carb diet which was easy on their blood sugar and insulin production. In other words, there was low inflammation in their bodies. This is the kind of diet that I believe is the healthiest and try to follow. Generally low carb, except with lots of high fiber vegetables, fish, mainly omega-3, eggs, very little meat, some natto and tofu, some high fat, plain, organic yogurt, some fruit, mainly berries and green tea. Low fat diary is not healthy because of the high sugar content which can cause blood sugar spikes. I eat some legumes but try to keep grains very low, because they spike blood sugar. A biologist from the Weizmann Institute tested the blood sugar response of 1000 people to everything they were eating. One unexpected result was that brown rice raised people's blood sugar as much as ice cream. He talks about this in a TED talk on youtube. His name is Eran Segal. Grains have valuable nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and anti-cancer compounds, but they spike blood sugar and insulin and I think should be eaten sparingly.

@@bfriedman13 It's buried in my favorites. I will try to find it. Meanwhile here is a Pub Med reference to it. I think the 1972 study was an Okinawa study. According to my Japanese friend in Tokyo, they ate root vegetables and didn't have green leafy vegetables. But they did eat seaweed, which is very nutritious. They ate a lot of sweet potatos, the native kind is not supposed to spike blood sugar, and less than half of the rice eaten by other Japanese. Very little sugar and very little grains, except for that white rice.

The nutritionist is is right on the money about vegan cheese. Each slice is a salt shaker full of sodium, it is very expensive, and tastes like recycled cardboard. Swiss cheese is usually the lowest in sodium and potassium.

Thank you again for the information as it really does help me make a choice on what I buy. I have learned to make egg salad with 2 egg whites to one yolk. I make enough for several sandwiches and it is so much better with less yolk. Have to read labels when I buy salad dressing etc and haven't found the best one yet. Even try mixing salad dressing and some french dressing I found that is much lower in salt. Looking forward to the next video.

Eat the yolk. Here’s an easy way to make it. Crack about 5 or 6 eggs in a microwaveable bowl. Barely mix. Microwave for about 3 minutes. Let cool. Chop up with a fork and add mayo, mustard, relish or pickles and juice. Voila. No peeling.

Hi Joan, I would like to give you my salad dressing recipe. A good organic olive oil, organic Balsamic vinegar, organic fresh garlic squashed and chopped fine, organic pepper, and a small pinch of salt. Some folks add mustard, but look out for the salt content. All proportions are personal. I like oil and balsamic to be almost equal and a good “dose” of garlic. I never get salad dressing at the store. Hope this helps you!

I did NOT find anything confusing about anything said by either the doctor or the nutritionist. There was just a great deal of information given. Excellent video. And thank you very much. So many options can be confusing if a person isn’t familiar with the terms, also because of the diversity and making choices (as everything in this area has so many + and - ‘s) the average lay person can have their head spinning. Point being Do not be afraid to make the best choices for yourself that you can, try it out and see how it works for you and if it doesn’t try an alternative choice. Final thought, try reading all about all suggested good for you foods and their nutritional aspects. It’s a fun thing to do when you know that what you are reading is of serious value and help to the body you are housed it. Good luck and Happy Voyage in actually Helping Your Own Body.🙏🏼🤗👋

Hai, with all due respect, my take on your videos are as follows. Listening to the Doctor is like he is talking face to face to me , with clear explanation and easy to follow information. Whereas, the Dietian talks like she is in a hurry with her back facing me. Perhaps she can stop and look at us and with a clear tone explain things in as plain as possible so we can comprehend what she is trying to tell us.. Please try to explain things like the saying,*Renal Nutrition for Dummies.* I would like tp thank both of you for taking the effort to educate dialysis patient like me. God bless

I am 75, DM type 2, HTN, morbidly obese. 8 weeks ago, I was diagnosised with stage 4 CKD. I live in Thailand and doctors know nothing about diet. I went on a rigid renal diet that was popular about 20 years ago. In 2 weeks I went to Stage 3. I watch your videos and know I should be eating differently but can't figure out what. Luckily my blood sugars are good (fasting 95)and B/P is good (130/60). I eat mostly plant based food and fish 3 times a week. Please tell me wgat grains I should be eating.

I appreciate the information you went over on kidneys!! I have 2 eggs every day and hope it's ok. My dad had PKD, a lot of ancestors on his side died of brain ruptures, as did my dad. Probably pkd ran strong on his side. I rarely eat meat or fruit, rarely any dairy. I am now hypokalemic due to short term of diuretic and am on prescription potassium. I worry a lot about my kidneys. However, none of my drs are! No matter how much potassium I take and under 100 mg salt a day my blood keeps the sodium and potassium at normal! Dr's say I pee out the extra potassium. Strange. I'm still concerned. The only milk I drink is Toasted Coconut and almond from Califia Farms. No phosphorus, no sugar, 140 sodium, 1g protein, 1g saturated fat. It's been great for maintaining bone health. Please let me know if you have any comments, concerns of what I detailed as I seem to be in it on my own.

Be careful about cows milk. It is really designed for baby cows. Don't worry about eggs. Aren't they designed for baby chickens??? Anyway I really enjoyed the discussion and I'm glad for the diverse points of view. What I get from the discussions is that it's vital not to overindulge in anything, lean more towards vegetables and quinoa, nuts and fruits. I'm allergic to eggs and love dairy products, over indulging. But I have cut milk to a minimum.

I appreciate your diplomacy on how you spoke about eggs with what I would consider a timid evaluation of their true benefits. Eggs are the greatest food in the world. If we are to say that red meat produces higher acid levels making the kidneys work harder it must also be said that an overly alkaline state also obliges the kidneys to work harder. Furthermore most legumes are acid forming unless they are sprouted. It should also be mentioned that plants contain toxins not found in meat. I am referring to meats that are not aged or cured.

So, I can still enjoy my Sunday morning boiled egg! (From Northern Germany - the Sunday morning boiled egg is tradition). I eat mainly veggies from my garden. Have MCD and am an unlikely candidate, since I have not eaten meat for many years, bake my own bread, am slim and walk every day. I did notice that the proteinuria is considerably less when I eat only plant-based protein and gets worse when I eat cheese (I really like cheese but will remove it from the diet). Shall see how it goes.
