To be honest, Pikmin 4 already has multiple free DLC built in: Trial of the Sage Leaf and Olimar's Tale, both are separate experiences that could've been DLC but aren't. I think it's quite nice we just got a complete, traditional game.

I genuinely think Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, as well as the Sage Leaf Trials were considered DLC at first, but they wanted the game to get reviewed as positively as possible, to grow the fanbase bigger than ever, so they threw in those modes for free.

I can see the idea for Olimar's Shipwreck Tale being a DLC but Sage Leaf Trials feel a bit too... important 2 Onions locked behind it, the ending changes slightly based on your progress, and it feeds into the general theme of the core game (dandori) much more than Olimar's Shipwreck Tale does. Sage Leaf Trials feels like Pikmin 4's challenge mode (and while Pikmin 3 did later add some extra challenge mode levels through DLC, the challenge mode itself was ultimately included at launch).

Actually, I think it’s the complete opposite. Pikmin has always been a niche series with only serviceable sales. There have been plenty of companies who have abandoned IPs who performed even better than Pikmin. Hell, even Nintendo has let go of some IPs that had even more broad appeal than Pikmin. I honestly believe that the only reason Pikmin is still alive is because Miyamoto still has a big presence at Nintendo. This has been his baby and it seems like he’ll do anything to keep it alive. I’m willing to bet that the reason for the long development was that he was fighting to get the project even greenlit (and I’m under the assumption that “Hey Pikmin” was the “new Pikmin” game he was talking about in 2014.

While I loved Pikmin 4 (Oatchi is a VERY good boy!), not every game needs DLC. Pikmin 4 already feels like a feature complete game. The worst thing you can say is the multiplayer feels like more of an afterthought than Pikmin 3, but the singleplayer is massive and Olimar's Shipwreck Tales would've been post-launch DLC in any other game.

So here’s my theory: we’re not getting anything till Switch 2, where we get Pikmin 4 Deluxe. That’s where we’ll get online dandori battles, a proper challenge mode, and new game+, as well as full co-op, whether that’s local or WiFi I’m not gonna guess, but I have a shred of evidence. The Joy-Cons were treasures in the Newly Nostalgic collection. It’s kinda weird to be nostalgic for their current system, isn’t it? Hey, I'm still wondering where the FLIP the next Star Fox game is? Reminder to everyone that Miyamoto stated in an interview after Star Fox Zero came out that he "wants to put more energy into Star Fox and Pikmin". It so incredibly disappointing that Star Fox has just skipped the switch generation, a perfect time to really test Star Fox's status without BAD data getting in the way. I want to have that Arlo Moment, I want to be massively stunned and excited for something. The only thinks that have only done that are rumors of Star Fox Assault getting a remake or remaster and that might not happen.

Ive noticed that when it comes to paid DLC, Nintendo usually announces it ahead of the games release. Breathe of the Wild, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and 3. Hell, i think even Luigu mansions 3's multiplayer DLC was announced ahead of the games release. There's some exceptions but for the most part if they dont announce it before the games release, i dont expect anything coming.

I had an idea for a dlc. Remember the president? I was thinking maybe he would go to PNF-404 on his own to find treasure to repay another debt. Maybe he could stumble upon new pikmin types (like 2 or even 3). Maybe he explores 2 new areas showing the strengths and weaknesses of the new pikmin types. He could also discover new neverbefore seen treasures. This is an idea I've been thinking about for a while and wanted to share it. Maybe the title of the dlc could be called: The Presidents voyage.

As fun as DLC is sometimes, not every game needs it. In fact I rather like that Nintendo only rarely releases DLC because it shows that for the most part they focus on releasing complete experiences without purposefully holding back content for later like a lot of other studios do. When games are already so expensive, sometimes it doesn’t feel great to have to pay even more just to get the complete experience. Every once in a while after a game is fully complete, if the devs then still feel like there’s more significant value they can add with DLC, especially if it wouldn’t work as its own game, then that’s when I find DLC at its best (ex. Echoes of the Eye for Outer Wilds or the free expansions to Hollow Knight)

On the subject of Star Allies, while I don't think anything has been confirmed I always felt like 90% of the post launch content was meant to be in the base game. It's no secret that the games felt kind of shallow when it came out and I believe that was for two reasons: First getting the friend AI to work properly and figuring out how to design the game so that none of them ran into any problems and second because they didn't want to miss the 25th anniversary. They were almost a year late with the actual release itself and all the content wasn't added until late 2018. They decided to release the game early to still be part of the celebration and settled on adding the other stuff later. Heroes in Another Dimension was specifically made in response to criticism yes, but the Dream Friends were most likely meant to be there from the start, given the rest of the games legacy celebrating nature. Forgotten Land was a complete game at launch so HAL probably didn't see a reason to give it DLC.

@@autismandgaming4532 Even for non-Nintendo games most so-called "incomplete" releases are lacking in QA not content. The only type of games where DLC is regularly anything like a necessary part of the "complete" experience are live-service games and those games are fundamentally never really finished.

That used to be the case, I dont think it is in the current gaming landscape, quick DLC pretty much always means something was cut out of the game to sell back to gamers at a higher price point

I think the game is pretty satisfying as it is. Would rather they just focus all attention on Pikmin 5. If that ever happens.

Isn't it a good thing that there's no DLC when the game leaves you satisfied in features and stories? Especially a game like Pikmin that is meant to be replayed and thus made to be enjoyed upon replay. It's the complete experience. Unlike TotK that left us with more questions than answers, or Animal Crossing NH that didn't even have Easter in the 1.0.0 vanilla game release (a release, mind you, close to that holiday). I'd consider it a big plus for Pikmin 4 not to have DLC. Rather than telling Nintendo that they can double dip with something that is potentially half-hearted. It seems almost ironic that the reasons you give for making DLC and how to give it are the kind of reasons people hate on some DLC in the first place. Unless this entire video is satire and I am completely missing the point.

Hottake I‘m glad Nintendo moved away from payed DLC after a short time. DLC is just taking parts out of a otherwise complete game and selling them back later to press out extra bucks. It is never like they release a full game and the dlc actually adds to it. Can’t speak for the earthtree maybe that could be the one example on the contrary

Honestly, I don't see why a game needs DLC within a year of release. It wasn't like that back then and people were fine with it. Idk what changed people's perspective with DLC.

Also, not EVERY game needs DLC. Some games are fine on their own and giving them DLC just doesn't make sense imo.
